きのこのこのこげんきのこ♪ xD You can find the の particle in titles of lots of films and anime too! :D 君の名は (kimi NO na wa) - Your Name (name OF you) 天気の子 (tenki NO ko) - Weathering With You (lit. Child OF Weather) 鋼の錬金術師 (hagane NO renkin-jutsushi) - Fullmetal Alchemist (lit. Alchemist OF steel) ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 (jojo NO kimyou-na bouken) - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure ハウルの動く城 (hauru NO ugoku shiro) - Howl's Moving Castle Also now you can understand what "あの子のスカートの中 (ano ko NO sukāto NO naka)" from the Japanese Pokemon theme song ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqOwhGeqodZnfa8 ) means too!! ;)

This might be a stretch, but after some head-scratching, I found some logic in the "tomodachi no Asako". In that context, I consider the 'no' particle an adjective-forming block. It kinda makes sense: Friend 'no' Asako > friendly Asako > friend Asako Boyfriend 'no' Naruto > 'boyfriendal' Naruto (not a word, but it gets the message across) > boyfriend Naruto Protagonist 'no' Naruto > protagonist (adjective) Naruto > protagonist Naruto
@sanshi5275
@sanshi5275 2 жыл бұрын
I, too, had difficulty making sense of this particular use of "no", and I don't know if it will help, but my logic still uses the idea of something possessing another. So for tomodachi no Asako, I think of it as "Asako belonging to the class (of being a ) friend". Or Protagonist no Naruto, I think of it as "Naruto belonging to the class (of being a) Protagonist.

Idk if that 左の出口 is a figure of speech, but if you take it at face value it translates to: (ひだり/左/left) の (でぐち/出口/exit). Meaning “the left exit” Could be used on a train or something idk
@charackthe
@charackthe 4 жыл бұрын
@@primemetacomet5820 It is also used in navigation apps but I do not understand the logic beneth the no usage here. It is like left's exit or exit of the left. Because of this I can't understand the usage of no in some places.
@primemetacomet5820
@primemetacomet5820 4 жыл бұрын
@@charackthe it can be confusing because the の particle doesn't perfectly translate to English (in some instances) meaning it's hard to reverse-translate back to English and end up with something that makes sense. In this example, it makes more sense to put a 'the' in front of the two words and put them into english, however most of the time the の particle is for possession.
@charackthe
@charackthe 4 жыл бұрын
@@primemetacomet5820 This is why I'm trying my best to not associate with English while studying Japanese but it is still so hard to understand the usage of no.
