I bought 3 MCD shares for $90 when I was a junior in high school, about 15-16 years old. I'm 23-24 now, and they currently sits at +$195. I have DRIP'd all of my dividend payments, still have not made a whole share but I seen my dividend payments go from $0.76 a share to I think $1.15, but I know over a dollar. Half the time to invest in a company just use common sense. When push comes to shove and people can't eat steak, they go to MCD's

I use the dividend paying stocks more than any other passive income strategy. Also, it makes sense to buy at least ten shares because after the commission is factored into the cost per share basis, you would end up getting a lower cost per share basis because (share price + commission)/number of shares determines your cost basis.

Making about $500 a month ($6000 a year) from dividends is going to require well north of $100,000 in stock investment principal. S&P 500 type companies pay around 2 % in dividends; there are other stocks that pay higher-- and some that pay monthly dividends not just every 3-months, but these other types of stock investments are much more riskier. Having said that, stock investing is some of the ultimate passive investing-- you literally don't have to even lift your fingers, except when you put in the buy and sell orders at your online brokerage lol.
