Just discovered Lessons with Marcel and now your channel. I was trying to learn Billy Strings solos but I felt that I was skipping a couple bluegrass levels to say the least. I'm glad I found your channel with this beginner bluegrass lessons, this is what I needed. I'm gonna check your other videos as well, thanks for the content!

Hi Brandon I am a beginner and trying to learn to play Bluegrass guitar. I am working on the passing run example and would like to know when you play the bass strum are you hitting the strings on up stroke? This lesson is helping me to sound more like Bluegrass guitar. Thanks

Instead of “riffing off the octave”, I’ve heard that technique described as a double stop. It’s not exactly an octave interval since it’s the same exact note. I think the term for the interval is unison

Hello Tim. Double stops are created by taking two notes from a given scale and playing them at the same time. Frequently used in blues soloing to add texture for example. Not necessarily notes one octave apart. Just notes from the same scale that sound good together. If you look up the definition of guitar double stops, you will find examples.

You demo'd the "Chuck" but you didn't play it in your rhythm. And how is a downstroke with strings ringing make it a chuck? It's just a chord. You need to mute the strings to chuck. Bizarre.
