This summer will have about no poker, but it will have a lot of dealing poker. I'm dealing the summer poker series at The Orleans on W Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Orleans Summer Open is the official name. Here are my tales.

This is why poker players need to push their bets and cards to the dealer. It is inconsiderate and self absorbed not to do so. Oddly enough, the most effective way I have gotten players to do this is explain that some of the same type of skills that make for a good poker player are reflected in this action. You need to be aware of what's going on at the table through observation, and you also need the ability to have sympathy. Being able to have sympathy is the same thought process to understanding what your opponent is thinking in a hand against you. Appreciate your observations Nomad, and good luck to you. ❤

When I'm in seat 3 or 6/7 I try my best to push my bets to the dealer. I like to sit further away from the table so it requires me to be conscious about it... but whatever. I feel bad when they gotta really reach or even get up a lil from seat.

I’m a dealer in Council Bluffs - I love hearing about your dealing journey. A couple points: 1. My nails also get filthy dealing. Get a nail brush at a drugstore to help you really clean them when you wash your hands. 2. The place where the dealer puts chips can be called a rack, tray, well, and probably other things. People telling you it is wrong to call it a rack would do well to open up their minds to the concepts of synonyms and words with more than one meaning.
@VegasPokerNomad

Lol. I can't believe how many people were mad about that. I probably say "rack" 80% of the time and "well" 20%. And only "tray" if it's a place where each dealer has a tray that moves as the dealer moves.

For less back pain try to keep the dealer seat in the lowest position and then kindly ask the 2 and 7 seat to push there chips up so you can reach them easier most players will comply.

I was a craps dealer for 3 years in the late 70's. I quit because I realized my back wouldn't hold up for an entire career. I used to think the only way this is gonna work is if I schedule a back massage at the end of every shift! I worked at the Hacienda for a while which became famous after the movie Casino came out. It's funny, when I left Las Vegas I thought I should've picked poker dealing instead of craps but I guess I would've had back pain either way.

We had $3 chips at Mirage. When I first started I struggled to quickly count those ships when I was counting the rack. It was easiest to just think of them as $1 chips and then multiply the total of those chips by 3. That was easier than trying to count them as an odd denomination while counting. 2 spinal surgeries (herniated discs and spinal cord compressions) ended my dealing career.

A neoprene lower back brace helps your back quite a bit while dealing long shifts. If I think I’m only going to be there a few hours I wont wear it, since it makes me sweaty. If I know I’ll be dealing 8+ hours I make sure to wear the back brace.

Dealing poker longer than I care to admit. A few comments...1. I'm not aware of dealing poker causing backpain, but I am aware of dealing poker exacerbating backpain. 2. I keep my fingernails short, don't seem to have a problem with "gung" under the nails. Perhaps the condition of the felts have something to do with it and cleanliness of the felts. 3. After awhile dealing, you'll find the brain can process actions almost automatically...in other words, it becomes easier and more natural. There is no substitute for experience in the box. 4. I hear Orleans players are notoriously not dealer friendly. Perhaps summer open is an exception, but wondered if you encountered it yet. 5. Yes, there is more to dealing poker than pitching cards. Tact, attitude, accuracy and speed, calculating bet sizes, pots, side pots, change, rack management, etc...all play a roll. 6. Lastly, the numbers don't lie. You can still make decent money dealing poker. As good as it was say, years 2004-2007? It will never be as good as it was those years, but still good. Cheers!

actually prefer poking holes with a match on the round cigars. Use cutters on torpedos. Use 3 matches to light, wait till the initial sulfur burns off match, spread the 3 out, gives a big flame. Love the videos brother. Cake is def not a spoon food. Or is it???

2 and 4 chips are often used in 4-8 and 8-16 limit games anyway, so using them for the rake anyway makes sense to prevent the box from filling up so fast.

@VegasPokerNomad 2 ай бұрын
The $2-chips are good. Because that's max promo and if the rake is $2, $3, or $4, you'll use them for the rake also. The $4-chips aren't as necessary. I'm not a fan of Aria and Bellagio still having the $3-chips in the rack for rake since max rake increased to $5.
