I was stationed in Japan for almost 12 years (total 4 of tour of duty) when I was in the military...I admire and respect them Japanese a lot. I've had a lot of good memories and great experiences. I just miss the place, the culture and the lifestyle over there, a lot. The best, the most genius, most disciplined, most polite, and most organized and tidy Asian people on the planet...if only Japan was affordable (like in Philippines) to live in, I'd rather live there than any other places in the world...:)

That keyboard doesn't exist in japan. In modern japan the keyboard has the qwerty setup where you pressed the space button for each variation you want of it. For example if you type sa さ will appear and hit space for it to be katakana サ. You can also keep pressing space for symbols. For example type ai to get あい, hit the space button once for katakana form, アイ, then hit again times for a symbol such as, 愛.

About the thumbnail, the round keyboard actually only exists in China. Japan uses the English keyboard that is reprogrammed to input Japanese characters, usually Katakana.
