I simply love the guy. I think he's one of the most honest woodworkers (ie not commercially oriented) on YT. Straight and forward tips and I've learned a lot from him. Please keep them coming, Colin, good work there. PS: the plate tip was a WOW moment for me.

Your hack for the drill key is a good idea. I solved the problem in a different way.. I have a ratchet drill key attached to a three foot fine chain,( so it never walks away!). It always sits on the side of the bench. After I tighten the drill chuck, I immediately set the ratchet to the off position so it is ready to remove the drill bit when I am finished. thanks for the video!

Some great tips here! I plug my drill press into a foot switch to turn it off and on with my foot. Then should the drill jam i can easily turn it off and free up the drill without letting go of the vise or piece i"m drilling. For very little money it make the drill press much safer! Thanks for your great tips.

Colin, you have the most incredible ideas for drill press guys, like me. As a matter of fact, I just came in from my laundry/wood shop after using the drill press. I just ran back out and put your magnet and pie-plate trick to work. Tomorrow I'll dig out my large, right-angle "squares" and matching clamps and keep them nearby. Still looking for a good machinist's vise. Looking forward to catching up on your other videos. Thanks a million.

I have a Delta table model drill press inherited from my father in law. It was built in the 1950's in Milwaukee and has a single handle to raise and lower the spinning tool. They knew back then that a single handle was sufficient.

Those were good ideas, Colin...thanks. I was changing blades on my table saw one day and the bolt slipped out of my hand and seemingly disappeared into the twilight zone. I finally found it and I immediately sprayed it orange ( it's what I had on hand...fluorescent orange or yellow would be even brighter ), and now if I drop it, I can quickly find it. I need to do it to my drill chuck too 'cause I've been known to lay it on my work table while I drill something and have it get hidden behind a piece of wood or something and it takes a few seconds to see it. And yes on wheels..!!

I saw this video a couple of months ago and thought about removing two of my levers from my drill press. A few days ago I was just sitting on my couch and an idea popped into my head. Why not try putting a "suicide knob" (for steering wheels) on the knob end of one of the lever. I bought one and so far it seems to work great and on my Jet I didn't need to do any modifications to make it fit. One other thought concerning the drum sander jig, why not just make a series of different size holes in the top. Thanks for all the great tips and for helping me "Knecht the dots" in my workshop!

Great tips. I have almost the same drill press as in your video. Mine is a Craftsman, 15"-12 speed-1/2 H.P. built in 1985. Can you please do a video on all of it's features and how to set things up? I'm not sure how to exactly use it correctly. Also, how should I treat the main shaft because it is showing signs of mild surface rust. Any help understanding my drill press would be great. Thanks so much.
