I keep getting asked "are you the guys who treat cancer? My grandma had cancer..." Others think we're the guys who take the images. I tell them "we're the doctor's doctor: we tell your doctor what's on the scan, so they can look smart when they tell you what's wrong"

@GokuSon-ew3lm3 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: in many parts of the world medical students spend a whole lot of their time learning radiology, and when they become doctors most actually do read the imaging slides because not all healthcare facilities always have radiologists; sometimes there's only the technician and the physician has to interpret.
@GokuSon-ew3lm3 жыл бұрын
That's by no means supposed to devalue radiology (I always admire how dedicated and enthusiastic many radiologists are about their job), it's only to remind you that a true physician always appreciates the whole team's effort to deliver the best care to patient and never thinks of stealing all the credit.

Oh wow im shocked that people think Radiologist are not Doctors. WOW thats so insulting. Glad you busted that! I am a sonographer turned stay at home mom. I always loved interacting with the radiologists where I worked. I had so much respect for them for all they do and know! If its meant to be id love to work again one day. I miss it all the time! I LOVED interacting with my patients. I'm so shocked by the patient interaction, and the radiology being easy myth is so crazy!!! I wish more people really understood the amount of knowledge you have to know. Even when I worked as a Sonographer it was always funny to hear "you just take pictures." Oh if they only knew. :)

Actually it is termed as radiologic technologist not radiologist technologist. Other countries term them radiographer. here in the philippines, it is a 4 year course and you should pass the boards to practice. Rad. Techs are the brilliant ones who make the images like xrays, ct scan, mri, ultrasound images ect. For the radiologist to interpret.

I see that in most countries they work 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week, in my country is 6 hours a day or 30 hours a week, and you can work 12 hours a day but then you have more rest days. My question is why do they work 40 hours in a week? They try to do it in our country too, the reason is newer devices have less radiation. And then someone is released from work because of radiation, we cannot give blood because we are in the radiation zone, etc.

I believe the general public doesn’t understand the difference between a Radiologist (M.D.) vs. a Radiographer who is essentially a Radiologic Technologist. Another fact I would like to underscore is how each study requires the Radiologist to literally make a “100” on the test. There is no room for human error when it comes to diagnosing abnormal scans, determining the path of treatment for the patient. I literally want the most experienced and intelligent person “in the room” to read my study. Kudos and respect to you for your determination to survive all of the higher ed. and training you had to endure to get where you are in life. I love your channel! Keep up the great work!

@levibeam1004 жыл бұрын
Almost none. No Radiologists really see this as an issue. Auto pilot has been on planes for years, but there still needs to be a pilot in the plane. The same will go with Radiology. AI will definitely help Radiologists with studies. But there is so much more they do than that.

From a guy who suffered from radiation poisoning after an abdomen and pelvic ct scan, 325 slices, 14mgy, they say. Why are hospitals not required to go over the radiation risks or provide a simple consent forms? If I had any idea the significant amount of radiation I would of opted for an mri or ultrasound. The next time you have someone come in complaining of loss of appetite, vomiting, and painful burning sensations accross their skin that lasted for months, your tech over did your client. I threw up for 6 months, lost 35 lbs in 3 months. Like being burned and dehydrated alive. Ultra low dose ct scans or at least simple consent forms going over the risks and areas being scanned will hopefully be promoted by the medical feild as I'm sure I'm not the only one that got blasted on a ct machine. My God, going to the doctor should be safe, not a radiation overexposure event.

What is the difference between Radiography a 2 year AS degree and what you do MD diagnostic radiologist.
@DirtyDadJokes4 жыл бұрын
Everything. A 2 or 4-year degree in Radiography/Radiologic Technology is the same level of education as a Registered Nurse, just in Radiology. We learn patient care, anatomy, physics, radiation science, and how to actually use the equipment that produces the images. We're the work horses of the department. A Radiologist is a doctor. They have about 15 years of education (BS, MS, Med School, Residency, Specialty training...) and interpret the images we produce as well as performing interventional procedures such as lumbar punctures and arthrograms.
