Ray is a great part of the game. We all fall in the trap of criticising umpires (and I was yelling at the TV at the weekend) but it's a really tough job, made even worse by constant rule changes. The game doesn't exist without umpires and I like how Ray brings some flair to the role. Thanks for the interview

A brilliant interview and a credit to you both for the important offfield stuff you both do. On the topic of the moment it was interesting to hear Ray mention George Gregan. While totally different sports I'd put Ginnivan and Selwood and co. In a similar category as dynamic, slippery, relatively small players who can get themselves out of trouble. And I think the current interpretation is missing this, there are no doubt some played free kicks and the deliberate duck needs to be stopped, but equally you can't evade, or goose step or change direction without lowering the centre of gravity. And I think this intent is being missed. Case in point against Port - I'd view the free against Ginnivan as a step, not deliberately lowering himself, in a similar face to face contact - would have been a yellow if not a red in rugby union today. While Ray says 'play' - kick or handball, isn't evade an equally valid choice for players that have the skills to do so. The tackler has to have some blame in the interaction.

I watched this on my tv last night and can't believe I'm thinking this, but the world could do with more razor Ray's. I loved the comments about umpire's savings player's from themselves. Love or hate them there just umpiring to the rules there given.
