I totally agree with Yura that the indirect aspect of Japan is exaggerated. I feel that Japan has "fake" politeness and the west has "fake" intimacy. I guess that westerners hear the politeness and mistake it for intimacy then navigate the relationship based on that. About the "fake" intimacy, I'm American and I usually struggle to know what Americans are really thinking. Every time I meet someone, they seem like they want to be friends, but in reality they are just being nice. I struggled to date and even make friends in America. I have had no trouble leading a fulfilling social life in Japan. Everyone is different, I guess that my personality type works better here. Speaking Japanese helps too.

Thanks for the thoughts, Yuta San. I do think you're being a bit nice by agreeing with some of the points, as I don't really agree with much of anything he says -- but I used to. The main point I noticed here is that this guy hasn't been in Japan a long time but has already begun making videos about the suckiness of dating in Japan. However, his title should be changed to something like "Initial challenges of inexperienced white foreign men dating in Japan." To be exact, he's inexperienced, so he's leaving out a lot of information (both about dating/life/culture in Japan and one's home country), and also lacks any type of grounding or longterm experience in Japan. The result is obvious that he's going to struggle for a while until he can begin to make real sense and truly understand the lay of the land on a deeper level. How many women did he date back in the US? How many Japanese women here? How many girlfriends has he had? What are his credentials to be telling us that Japanese women won't like us if our home country women don't like us? Also, how many women must a man ask out before he determines that "no one" likes him? I wouldn't say that his video is just a joke or that he's not being serious. While it isn't purely serious, it is most assuredly made with his experience in mind, or at least his beliefs if nothing else. My experience in Japan is a drop in the bucket compared to some other foreigners and even less to yours, Yuta San. I've lived here a total of 3 years, and 7 years in China. Still, I know for a fact that much of what he says is only the experience of a "noobie" type person who lacks the time necessary to understand or see certain things. His intentions aren't bad but I'm in my 40s and after living abroad independently in East Asia for 10 years and having had a couple of serious relationships, many friendships, and numerous colleague relationships, it's humorous to me to see a guy of this age making what is a light but authoritative style take on why dating in Japan "sucks." My #1 complaint, actually, is finding a woman to date who ISN'T married! Last year alone, I went out with 3 different women who all turned out to be married, claiming to be either separated and/or filing for divorce soon. One of them was trying to hide it from me and accidentally let it slip. I'm not challenged by dating itself, but I am annoyed at the amount of women who are looking for either a foreigner to turn into their side piece or someone to "jump ship" for. I just want a good single woman.

I firmly maintain that in general Japanese culture works best with particular personality types. Sort of like how in the U.S. extroverted people are overall going to do better. Now you /can/ be introverted in the U.S., but the society isn’t going to reward you for it. Whereas in Japan oftentimes being a bit more passive, polite, and restrained is rewarded. I disagree. I consider myself an introvert, but I'm very passionate about things I care and tend to be respectfully confrontational, which are personality traits that are very characteristic of my cultural upbringing. Should you have any such issues with your channel I would like to say that they would not be representative of this community, and instead are a known and occasionally unavoidable consequence of creating public content in general. I hope you do not focus on any such instances. Furthermore, I would point out that while Yuta may have disagreed with some of your takes or opinions, I don't think he specifically stated that he disliked any of them, as there is a difference. In fact, I would venture to say that if he didn't like your video he probably wouldn't have featured it on his channel and reacted to it in such a casual and fun way. I couldn't disagree more with the dude Yuta is reacting to. I'm in Tokyo atm, which, yes, makes it much easier, but I find it insanely simple to get some action here. The only thing I'd say is actually considerably harder is going into something serious, but that doesn't seem to be a foreigner oriented problem. The "indirect PR-like speak" thing is something that you can very easily establish a middle ground when people interact with you. Belive it or not, part of being seen as a foreigner is that people tend to be way more forgiving of you having a different communicational vibe. I find that a lot of dudes that come here sometimes need to be realistic about what they bring to the table and what they are being offered. Being a "handbag boyfriend" could very well be something you turn into a casual fwb relationship, if you actually put some game in instead of feeling sorry for yourself. If you tryna start a family and don't live in a big city, tho, you might just be fucked.

Japan's policies, including education, are not created by the Japanese government. There is an American-led body above the Japanese Diet that makes fundamental decisions. It is an occupation policy. It means that foreigners are coming to the colony called Japan. When I was in the early grades of elementary school, we were noisy and aggressive, just like in other countries. However, after a few years, the classroom becomes quiet and the students no longer express their opinions during class. They are extremely afraid of making mistakes and are only concerned about how others will judge them. This is clearly educational domination. And it's not Japan that does that. It robs the Japanese of the ability to think. As a result, a lack of communication occurs. This is not a criticism or anything like that, but an issue that needs to be overcome.

Ganjin hunters are the worst, I know it's not easy to date a Japanese person. Separate bowls for Rice, soba, ramen etc. Men's bowls are bigger. Shower b4 bed sometimes several times a day. Clean the bathtub before they enter. Slippers on before entering bathroom. Some expect you to change clothes b4 entering the house. FLUFF THE RICE UNLESS YOU WANT TO PISS THEM OFF!

I find a lot of these "dating in Japan" video kinda creepy. Most of these guys just want to date in Japan because they want to date someone who's Japanese and that's their only criteria. Like, surely you'd want to date someone who you're physically attracted to but also someone who has the same values and world view as you? I guess the same can be said about Gaijin hunters...
@KageumiUmikage Жыл бұрын
Do people still use the label weebs? Cause that's what these people secretly are. Even girls sucked up to me cause I'm japanese, shit gets creepy and weird after awhile
@iclicklike3397 Жыл бұрын
"Having a thing" for certain nationalities or people from certain region is not necessarily the same as Gaijin hunters. Women from my country for example like the kind of Mediterranean phenotype more often than not. I'm a European and the black marker pen painted kind of eyebrowed women is an instant turn off me, just like the fake talons. This crosses out a large portion of women around you. Meanwhile I find east asian women facial features attractive more often than that of western. Same goes for the overall more reserved feel of people in east asia.

If you are looking to date ( in any country) to other people you look almost desperate. People can sense your intentions and they will most likely keep you at arms length or creep them out. Being open to dating and seeking out a relationship is totally different and the vibe you give off is how people will view you. Learning to Be happy while you’re single first is the key, developing hobbies,learning about yourself and being open to change. But no matter what you do or think, if you’re not happy by yourself, than your not going to be happy with someone else. The whole - the other person I get involved with will meet all my unmet needs and complete me is not only unhealthy, but a lie. There’s just one you, I could search the entire universe or go to the center of the sun looking for another you and never find that other you. Past or future in all of creation there is just one you and that’s how special you are, so value yourself more.
@mouthfulgames86812 жыл бұрын
No, tbh that is a very western way of looking at things where openly showing intereset puts you in desperate/creep/crazy category. In a lot of cultures it's actually encouraged when you're single and the whole work on yourself till someone deems you worthy mantra doesn't exist.

I'm Korean American and I've dated a Japanese woman before. In fact, she was the one that approached me at the mall. Like with all women, if they like you and their first impression is good, they will be more open and honest with you. This white guy has trouble with Japanese women, because he's just not that good a catch. Besides Koreans, I'm the most comfortable with Japanese people and find that I can relate to them the most. I actually get a little excited when I see random Japanese people in the States haha.

In Japan, especially women, their expressions when refuging are so roundabout that I can't understand well what they're saying. There are even commentators who explain what they mean. They use meaningless expressions because they don't want to be known as women who say bad things, but behind the scenes, their purpose in life is to say bad things about others. Because they don't clearly say no to things they don't like, they may be persistently followed by people they don't like. I think it is very important to adapt to the local culture. But as a Japanese person, there are things I don't very like about Japan. I think it would be better to correct the expressions that are too roundabout or the voice that sounds like a child's.

Note to self: don't date them because they are Japanese, date them because you and they have the same vibe. Don't force someone having different style from you to be like you. And don't think that real life Japanese people act like characters in Shounen animes. Watch more daily life anime (my recommendation is "Just Because", characters in that anime act way more same as real life Japanese, forget about Naruto or Luffy, it's hard to find someone like them in real Japanese society)

That's why i love SoL animes more than any genre. Romance is my #2. I've been full w/ shounen & fantasy stuff when i was teenager. SoL is filled w/ real things, chara's actions are mostly relate to rl, but not 100% bcs there's still a lot of SoL & romance that "too good to be true". So i'm always keep my logic on despite it's a daily life / SoL shows. Btw, i've finished "Just Because" 2 mo ago. It's a nice calming show, similar to "Tsuki Ga Kirei" (both are 2017 anime & same genre)...

@@warungmaduracakmus Yeah I feel U bro. But it also depends on personal taste. Even I know that Shounen animes are not real, and how different Japanese people act in real life, but but I still enjoy watching it. I just talk about shounen anime with someone who loves it like me. Because it has more meaningful inspirations than just fighting blad blad blad that you can hardly find in SOL anime. SOL anime just something that I watch when I need chilling emotions. I feel a bit jealous with characters in SOL anime because their life is so "too good to be true" to me haha. I always wonder why single foreign men do not try to find partners in their hometowns or surrounding areas. In a foreign country far from their home country, they risk encountering language barriers. Even if English is the global language, it's not uncommon for it not to be understood deep in the mountains or in small island countries. After all, when considering the development of a relationship based on shared values and smooth conversation, the man and woman who become intimate should be of the same ethnicity and race as each other.

Most men in the USA don’t want the entitled selfish, and insanely high maintenance women who are “strong and independent”. If there were a decent amount of women worthy of being girlfriends men would not be going over seas for love. The average western woman can’t cook, hates to clean, and does NOT cater to a man seeing that as oppressive. Like a spoiled child the western woman only wants to do what she wants, has zero loyalty to any man(except her loser bad boy with no job), yet wants a traditional man while being a modern woman.
