He just didn't feel like Superman to me, it felt like someone obliged to be Superman because he was. Pre and Post Crisis supes both felt like beacons of hope that you could build around, New 52 superman just felt like some guy.

Not really, Superman felt no different than birthright, Smallville, etc. he is still a figure of hope and tries to inspire but he is figuring it out what it means to be a beacon of hope instead of getting it on the first try

He chose to be Superman, he chose to put on a uniform and fight for the little guy. That's who Superman was CREATED to be by Segal and Schuster, from him being a Superhero who can't be harmed by the Badguys to him being a Reporter. Superman was made to stand up to the bullies no matter WHO they were. What's wrong with going back to that? Why must we have always have this Socially Acceptable, Innocuous, Non Threatening Superman character? I tell you what, SAINT Superman is not nor has ever been for Our Benefit. The version of Superman I love takes the fight to the Badguys no matter what Suit he's wearing.

Yeah I avoided this as it was coming out due to all the negativity surrounding it. I agree with a good chunk of what you said but looking back cherry picking the good stuff like unchained and men of tomorrow it doesn't seem that bad through those rose tinted glasses and part of me will always feel like he wasn't bad enough to kill off and throw him away like garbage.

Idk I was never a huge comics book person, my exposure to New 52 Superman was through the movies such as Dark Apokolips War, Justice league: War, and TT vs JL. My personal opinion was that he was a good character but again I don’t know the comics well I just watch the movies for my own enjoyment

This is pretty true. The odd thing is Man of Steel pushed superman away from the "Boy Scout" look and things like Birthright, Grounded, and more made it even more so. People just stuck on the 70's and the older movies. He was past that. New52 pushed it for him to be cocky and a asshole. This was a HUGE mistake IMO.

Just finished Return to Krypton amd H'el on Earth and I gotta say: I don't necessarily think they are great stories but they were fun; but the writing was horrendous: especially in H'el on Earth. The later one was more entertaining atleast with its time travel shinanigans. But the Greg Pak's What lies beneath was the book that made me interested in this version of the character. It's so great. I am currently reading Under the Skin rn.

I'm currently reading through the new 52 related comics and I'm enjoying myself a lot tbh. I do agree that Superman does argue a lot with people (or just seems really confrontational) and the stories do go a little too far with it, but I think it also helps bring up his reporter side (if that makes any sense). I don't really have a problem with Clark being a jerk, but maybe the writers could've had that stem from being experimented/tested on. It'd pretty much be like a chip on his shoulder similar to JL/JLU Clark after doomsday. Anyway, so far this character is becoming my definitive Superman (thx to Superman unchained), but I'll always love the og/current version.

I'm one of the Few who actually liked the New 52 Armor and Sci Fi adventures because to be fair Superman is very Sci Fi in the very beginning and not some religious bullcrap and the suits looks cool and modern yet what truly sticks the most that I have about him is he's broody and hot head shit in this iteration that it felt like Superboy Conner Kent than Clark Kent

I liked New 52 Superman's look and personality when Geoff wrote him. I didn't spend as much time on his solo book though, but The Wraith story and his presence in Justice League was dope. The king of camp was never for me. I just could never deal with the boyscout version of the guy.

Superman hasn't been a "Boyscout" since after Man of Steel in the 80's. I think people just decide not to read him because of prior to that or the movies. But he for sure had just as dark or brutal storylines as New 52, it is just his character work was ten times better. If you enjoyed Johns run on New 52 check out his work prior to new 52 on Superman, much better. Though his New 52 superman short run is the only run worth reading for Superman.

Nostalgia has nothing to do with it, you can only bend a character so much before you break it, New 52 superman doesn't embody any of the ideals any mainstream Superman should. It would be like if they made Batman a happy go lucky prankster, it just wouldn't work outside of an elseworlds story. and the fact that they had to murder off New 52 supes proves it wasn't working. I think Jon has flaws (Especially during his main series) but he also had Super sons and his current storyline is fun as well as his part in action comics. Superboy in New 52 was THE worst. Loud, annoying, and I was reading it LOL. Also his design sucked ass. Luckily now we have Connor and Jon and both are of their individual series currently are fun.
