I listened to AC/DC, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, Kiss, and other hard rock bands from the time I was 11 years old (1974). In 1981 my girlfriend bought tickets to see Judas Priest and I knew little about them but we went to see them at Long Beach Arena. I was BLOWN AWAY! I'd never experienced a Heavy Metal concert before and they kicked major butt! Their sound was like a wall of power with everything hitting at once and clicking together! And a buddy got tickets to see a band called Angel at the Santa Monica Civic (1978). Wasn't a fan but I'm glad that I went because. the opener was some group called Quiet Riot (they weren't considered metal at that time), and the guitar player was some guy named RANDY RHOADS! Will never forget that either!

I fucking love Judas Priest, they're my favorite metal band. I discovered metal through Black Sabbath's "Mob Rules", and when I found JP I was blown away. Robs vocals, Glenn & KK's guitar harmonies, and just the songs themselves are fantastic. They're 70's stuff is amazing and their 80's stuff, while not as great, are still fucking classics. Painkiller is a masterpiece that basically sounds like the love child of Sanctuary's "Refuge Denied" & Riot's "Thundersteel". Jugulator is also fantastic for what it is, a dark and heavy piece of metal(Cathedral Spires is god-like). Nostradamus is also fucking amazing for its bold experimentation.

mmm I wouldn't say that British Steel is the first metal album of Judas Priest - it's Stained Class. But it's a vague and hard to define distinction. You could say that it's Sad Wings or Sin after Sin too, the only reasoning for not doing so would be because they retain typical elements of 70s hard rock and progressive rock, whereas Stained Class is where a coherent style emerges in a mature state. Regarding Black Sabbath, they of course established the heavy darkness required of metal, but their albums were still blues based and still retained typical elements of late 60s and 70s hard rock. In other words, they will still part of a typical zeitgeist, as were Priest at first, rather than presenting albums that were clearly different and definable as 'metal albums', rather than heavy hard rock or heavy progressive rock.
@marc2000z7 жыл бұрын
Judas Priest is one of the best bands of all time and one of my favorite bands of all time, if you hate them, you are breaking the law. But there will be reasons why they hate em like: 5. Turbo (Though I like the album, some people will hate it because it's Glam Metal oriented, and has a heavy use of synth guitars) 4. Tim "The Ripper" Owens (He's a great replacement, and is a great choice to replace Rob Halford, and I love the Jugulator album, but the problem why some will hate him is because he came out at the wrong time, not to mention NO ONE CAN RELACE THE LEGEND, not to mention the lyrics, during his era with the band, was very abysmal, but that's not his fault because he didn't write anything during his tenure with Judas Priest other than that one song that was released as a Japanese bonus track called "What's My Name?" on Demolition (which that album was complete shit other than a few songs here and there like Subterfuge, One and One, Metal Messiah,and that bonus song I mentioned)) 3. "Everything after Painkiller sucks." (I don't really need to explain this, some people say this because they are narrow minded like Metallica fans who say everything past Justice sucks. I'm not one of those people. I like Metallica more than just the first 4 albums (although the first 5 albums from them are pretty much masterpieces), and like I said in #4, I like Jugulator. BTW Redeemer of Souls is their best album since Jugulator. AoR & Nostradamus are decent records too) 2. Dave Holland (His drumming is too simplistic and not standout, he hardly did drumming on Ram It Down, has a very heavily processed "pop" drum sound that resembles a drum machine or an electronic drum kit, and also became child molester years later after he left the band) 1. Rob Halford is Gay (he mentioned it first in a 1998 interview on MTV)
@brucenatelee8 жыл бұрын
I just now learned he was gay, and happy to say that I don't care. Never listened to them much. Heard Machine Head's cover of "Sentinel," then the original, and thought "Holy SHIT!!!" I don't think I'll ever find a metalhead that hates Judas Priest. It's not even at least rare as well. They were one of the forefathers of the emerging heavy metal scene in the late 70's, early 80's.

Judas Priest's Jugulator I actually really like! It may be a Rob Halfordless album, but the guitar riffs on that album are crushing.

Coming from Birmingham,same as Sabbath,they struggled and fought to establish there sound.....and we don’t need another heavy band from England......well they kicked ass! Two lead guitars,like Maiden,...and Robs voice was just mind shattering! Green Manalishi is the song that turned the corner for me!

I think Jugulator is a highly underrated album. Songs like Death Row, Burn in Hell, and Cathedral Spires are amazing songs. I definitely recommend it.

It's fascinating how people get really emotional over Priest and it goes past their great music. People like the members in the band as they seem to be really nice guys to their peers, younger bands, and the fans. There was a long form interview with Rob and a portion of it where he is at celebrity band camp and the girl tells him that she's a cancer survivor and listening to British Steel made her tough as she fought her cancer. She may have not been even born when the album came out. Rob's telling the story and he's on the verge of balling about how a song he wrote over 30 years ago helped a woman at the worst point of her life. Then the interview shows "The Metal God" signing with her. How do you not root for that guy?

I'm surprised one of the reasons wasn't that Judas Priest went on with Richie "Falcon" Faulkner after K.K. Downing left...

I didn't know that those people even existed.... Pretty dumb reason to hate them, if you ask me. KK was and is my favorite member of Priest (for me, he was the origin, heart, and soul of the band and provided their sound with their aggression and heaviness because Glenn was and is more of a melodic player), but you can't blame Priest for wanting to keep playing music after he left. I do hope that Priest gets inducted into the RnR HoF before anyone dies, though, solely for the reason that KK has stated that he will rejoin the band for a performance should such an induction occur. And they ought to already be in that joke of a hall, anyway.

Dorcas Meadowes sorry in fact Glenn Tipton did the majority of the writing for guitars, almost half of the writing if not more for vocals. He also mastered the more difficult guitar pieces in most of Judas Priest work. Not taking anything from KK, he was a great guitarist. But he always walked in Glens shadow and that is pretty much common knowledge amongst most priest fans of which I have been for over 30 years..... Long live Judas Priest!🤘🤘🤘🤘

I never watched/listened to the Baby Metal performance. I don't know why Rob would agree to be a guest singer on their performance and then try to show them up. It makes perfect sense that he would harmonize with them and let them have the glory. It's their show. It's about being respectful and Rob is a class act for that. As far as Rob's voice, he has had quite a few instances where he has had off nights. However, for anyone who says that his voice has had it certainly hasn't heard Halls of Valhalla. In fact, the whole Redeemer of Souls album kicks ass.

Not too many reasons to hate Judas Priest. They've always been a solid British heavy metal band like Maiden and Motorhead and the reasons are not very strong in this one. I've never met anyone that hates them.
