I dont know if other competitor cameras do this but i own two of these and the feature i use so much is switching between focus types whilst recording. It is amazing how you can be filming in AF, then change to Manual, change back to AF and change the type of focus. Its a game changer for me this!

Thanks for the review. I make guitar videos and can't decide between the Sii and the Siix. Would you agree the x would be overkill for YT videos and the file sizes would be a problem? My main concern is having something that will remain in focus as I film my self either talking to camera or playing guitar.

Great question! Whilst i've not done a direct comparison between the S5ii and the S5iiX, I can say the S5ii has been MORE than adequate not only here on youtube, but even for a few of my smaller commercial gigs. The autofocus performance has been reliable thus far and I can only imagine Lumix will continue to improve it with firmware moving forward. I've owned the S5, S1, and now the S5ii and its a beast. Just bought this camera. Bought the 35mm 1.8 lens. Always used Lumix cameras. Have the GH5 though wanted to also have a full frame camera. The S5ii is such a good camera. My friend uses Sony a7s everyone knows how good the AF is on it. The S5ii matches it. The face and body Af is outstanding. Along with the Normal AF. 6k open gate. Can now shoot 120fhd with full AF. Add the stabilizing the camera has its really is a true camera made for film makers.

@@johnaart Yes. I have the 35mm 1.8 lens. There is also the 24 and 18mm 1.8 lens. Though the 35mm is the perfect FL. If your more into photos then getting a zoom lens would be better. As for the thinking of getting the S5ii just get it. You will not regret it. You maybe want to get the s5iix but the extra money you save getting the s5ii can be use to get a camera cage ,a few sd cards and extra batteries.

I know Sony has quite a few things going for them but at the end of the day I just love the Lumix ecosystem. It works with my needs for 90% of jobs I bring it on. Congrats on your new one I think you'll love it!

S Primes are FANTASTIC. I've had the 85mm, and the 50mm and both render gorgeous images

@@GarrettWare Yeah they do. Though I always think that 50mm and higher are more for Photos then video. Of course you can shoot video with 50 or 85 though the magic FL is 35m .

Deciding between this and the Fuji X-H2. Hate to have to purchase lens adapters,batteries etc for the LUMIX when I already own a ton of Fuji gear but the LUMIX looks fantastic and the IBIS looks amazing. Luckily, I mostly use Canon FD vintage and Helios lenses for video so I won’t need to purchase a bunch of lenses. Do you think the S5II will be capable of recording directly to an SSD with an firmware update? I know the S5IIX has that feature?

Lumix + Canon FD is a match made in heaven! I use the 50mm FD on mine all the time. As far as SSD recording, I have my doubts that Lumix will add it in a firmware update since they are charging $200 to add it or $300 more for the "X"🙁

I'm worried about rolling shutter as I somtimes enjoy camera movement in my snazzy edits

I know a lot of people fear rolling shutter, but I have not seen it as a prominent issue when shooting things like basketball and football. If it does become an issue in your shooting i know one method of mitigating it is to shoot in crop mode on the sensor. Hope this helps!

I cannot recommend the S5ii enough! It takes everything that was great about the S5 and improves upon them with reliable AF, and some new sweet recording options. If that's something thats attractive to you, you can't go wrong

Great question! There's actually no recording limit in 60fps either like their was in the past on the S1 👍🏼

Hi Garret, nice video, thanks! Do you experience any problems with moiré in your S5II footage? I have the original S5, it´s amazing, but in some cases it produces more moiré than I would like and expect, sadly... So how is the S5II?

Excellent question! To date, the only long term shooting I have done with the S5ii was the wedding and I saw no moire that i can recall. Since the wedding, I now have my own copy of the S5ii that I plan to put thru its paces for a Spartan race this weekend! I can follow up with results if you'd like! Thanks for the support🙏🏼

Great question! As far as native glass goes, I have the 20-60mm, and the 50mm F1.8 (This may be the one you thought was a sigma as I've thought the same myself haha). The native lenses perform dang near flawlessly, and I've not really tested it with the adapted ones yet(I had a bit of trouble in the AF usability with the original S5 when adapting them). Adapted glass (using the Sigma MC adapter) I have a Tamron 24-70mm F2.8 G2, an assortment of EF glass, as well as some old FD adapted lenses from Canon. Hope this helps!

@@baihu4u even Fuji has all intra options. Once you shoot all intra you never want to go back. It’s a cheap move to get people to buy the black. It’s essentially a forced limitation, intentional limitation. They are super struggling to sell cameras, why wouldn’t they

I believe it's excellent for real estate! As a matter of fact, I used it a few weeks ago to video a custom built luxury barn dominium. With the beautiful colors and crazy good IBIS, it holds it's own even with the 4k60 crop. One thing to note, if the crop does bother you, I have zero problems going 1080p60 for Full frame

I bought the S5IIX. And I use the 20-60 and 50mm KIT lenses. But I'm having the problem that when I start recording. That I move from one side to another my image is blurred. And I don't know if it's a problem with the auto focus or something else.

Set your Af sensitivity and speed in camera. Also for shots where your panning make the AF box bigger or use full area AF. Each AF setting has its own uses. Find out the best ones to use. Most Af issue is the user not knowing how to use the AF the right way
