Do you have to refresh the soil regularly? If so, how do you handle that?

We went from having 2 to 4 planters in the space of a few months. I doubt we will stop at 4! Let us know how if you have any questions.

Sorry if I missed this: What variety of strawberry are you growing? And aren't you overcrowding the plants?
@GutenGardening2 жыл бұрын
We have a mix of strawberries (most of them are June bearing), but to be honest I don't know the exact varieties since they have been with us in other places for several years and I have pulled these from all over. In terms of overcrowding, we did go a little heavy on the planting (heavier than we would have in ground) to see how well the GreenStalk would handle it. We may need to thin in the future, but time will tell for sure. :)

Do you need to amend the soil after the winter 🤔🙏😊
@makeupbymel17422 жыл бұрын
This may be a dumb question but, because of the height, do you know the greenstalk to ever be blown over in a storm? Will the strawberries winter over okay in this setup or do you have to winter prep it some how? I have strawberry roots to plant out but I'm struggling with the idea of going vertical or planting them in a raised bed area. I'm in zone 7a. Thanks to anyone who answers my questions!

My strawberries in the green stalk were at 10 degrees for like 2-3 days and they look okay. Won’t know for sure til spring but they haven’t even lost all their green

Can you keep your strawberry plants , undisturbed in the Greenstalk throughout the winter? Any tips??
@TheGbortnick2 жыл бұрын
I bought the original style but just ordered the leaf. Do you feel restricted by the leaf with only 7 inches in depth? Did you feel that having 2 plants per pocket was crowding the plants too much.

I plan to grow strawberries in one of my GreanStalks as well. In fact, it's about time to get seeds in the ground so I can start getting berries in Nov or Dec down here.

In November and December, I will settle for dreaming of them, unless we grow some indoors this year. :D I can't wait to see yours growing!

If growing them inside in winter what can you grow in them without sun light.
@GutenGardening2 жыл бұрын
When growing inside you will need grow lights. Several winters ago we were able to successfully grow strawberries indoors and produce edible fruits. Unfortunately we had a huge infestation of aphids that eventual ruin the plants. If we attempt growing strawberries again we will be better prepared. Have you seen any of our indoor garden setup video? We usually transition to indoor gardening in Late Fall.
@JaniceCrowell2 жыл бұрын
The leaves are edible too.
@GutenGardening2 жыл бұрын
I have read this, but I have never tried them. How do they taste?
@JaniceCrowell2 жыл бұрын
@@GutenGardening To me they just taste green. I either dehydrate them and add them to my green powder, add fresh to fruit smoothies, or sauté with other weeds in garlic butter. I saw a video, I think by Rain Country Homestead, about this a year or so ago. I don’t grow strawberries yet, but I have lots of wild ones in my yard, the kind where the berries are too tiny to bother with but I do harvest leaves.

Nice video...any issues with birds eating your strawberries?
@GutenGardening2 жыл бұрын
We have so many other berries that they seem to enjoy even more. :D :D More than birds, we have issues with rabbits trying to get at them, which is one of the reasons we really like the vertical garden. So far, fingers crossed, we have mostly been left alone.

We do top some of our peppers. :) It has made a difference. For the eggplant, we often steam it or my favorite is this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIWtZaCpiLB_bdk&ab_channel=GutenYardening

Great question. We actually now do have the spinner for the ones we are growing inside because we think there is some value for that for sure. As of now though, everything seems to be doing well on all sides.

Wouldn't squirrels and deer be able to get at the fruit?
@GutenGardening2 жыл бұрын
We are fortunate that we don't have to deal with Deer, but we do have some squirrels but haven't had many problems with them. That being said, I would think that if I lived where they were a major problem, I would definitely need to work on a fencing system.

We are going with some tulle or bird netting this year to help with that. :)
@lifewithadriana38993 жыл бұрын
They're so expensive 😩
@GutenGardening3 жыл бұрын
They are definitely not cheap, but I think there are a couple of reasons for the cost. One is that you don’t have to bring them inside for the winter, and do is the water dispersal system. We have used a few other stackable planters, and there is a definite quality and durability difference. :)

They are! But they go on sale from the to time. One is going on now, for Valentine's.
