Hi i just started flower farming, probably a silly question but 😂would this work for flower plug plants being transplanted outside? My land ive done no dig but used card rolls. But since i have easy access to hay and straw id rather skip the card and just use this. I only have from now until april /may before I need the beds do you think i could do it if i pull my finger out now, OR could i lay the hay and put compost on top to enable me to plant out in time. Thank you

Very nice vertical harvest! I think I saw a purple Stokes that got away from you. Not sure if you caught that or not. Maybe you got it later lol

I’m almost positive this was growing in the cracks in my sidewalk. It’s incredibly frustrating that a plant this nutritious, and apparently easy to grow isn’t more well know.

It's a wonder of nature to me how a frost can damage potatoes, yet some can overwinter and sprout in the spring 🤔🙂

The voles ate my sweet potatoes even when I had hardware cloth under the grow box. I plan to totally replace the soil next season in case the voles have a nest in it, then put hardware cloth on top of the soil and plant the starts through that, putting a thin layer of soil on top with a thick mulch. I can check regularly to see if there is any damage.

That empty bucket looks like some of the grow bags we did this year. Planted 3 plants in 15gal fabric bags, that we set on our south facing porch. We really had a tough time keeping it moist. When we dumped them out, we got maybe a pound between four bags. I think moisture was the biggest factor, but overcrowding and impatience too. We still had a month and a half of growing time left, but based on when we planted them, I thought we were at the 100 day mark and we'd have some spuds. The bags we had along our north fence did much better overall, as they were well within the spray of our sprinkler system, and had their own dedicated drip lines too. We also let them go right up near the end of October. We still had some bags that had pitiful results, but also got a few the size of a small baguette. The biggest thing I learned this year is that the Okinawan variety is incredibly hit or miss. I am planting way less of that one next year. I love the purple color, and the taste and texture are excellent. But we really didn't get many good sized ones from all the 25 or 30 slips we planted.

We planted the orange sweet potatoes in two medium size storage bins from Walmart. We had a great harvest of good size tubers, enough for approximately 20 meals.

Thank you, I picked some roses from my garden to put in a vase, I noticed heaps of little lady bugs, I put the roses back under the tree so they could go back, I have plenty of aphids but have never seen the lady bugs before and want to keep them around.

Tip I learned after using buckets for awhile for watering. When you drill holes don't drill on the bottom, drill on the side up an inch or so and then the water doesn't just drain out. Its not enough water that they are sitting in it and have wet roots all the time, but its enough that they have a reserve and it actually keeps the soil moist vs just draining away. You can also do double buckets with the bottom one holding higher water as a reserve.

Some of those long skinny sweet potatoes should be held for next year's slips. I bought 2 skinny Whole Foods sweet potatoes (they called them Asian with purple flesh) and grew slips. They did not call them Stokes when I bought them. The skinny ones produced massive numbers of slips for a bargain. I am still waiting to harvest them in southern Louisiana 5 months later. I have some massive ones poking out of the beds but do not know how the crop will turn out yet. We later bought some large, similar (expensive) purple sweet potatoes over the summer and the taste is, IMO, superior to the orange ones - very rich taste and pretty sweet! I hear that the ones with purple flesh have anti-cancer properties.
