Safety? Air bags, abs, traction control were not invented yet. Can't compare a 45 year old car with today's technology.
@c3sgarage Жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that airbags and ABS was invented in the 50’s but not introduced until the early 70’s and regulated till early 90’s. The comparison is mainly to help others understand the “risks” of investing in a 40 year old car vs a newer car for the same or similar cost. It is true however, it is impossible to compare the 2 cars due to age and tech available at the time!

The 25th and Pace car (both 1978) didn't have an opening hatch. Only the 1982 CE had it, the rest of the 82's didn't have one either.

I’m so glad I live in Texas south Texas they care less and I love it. My truck is a every day driver and is running a pro charged 454 around 800 hp probably less but it’s on open headers cops don’t care and state inspectors just make sure the lights and horn work. In 2025 Texas is doing away with state inspections all together ❤ this means even my race car will be on the road

I have a 78 Vette which is also black but with a dark brown interior. I would much rather have the 79 seats. I really don’t care for the 78 seats. Have thought about trying to find a pair of 79 seats for mine. They look like they would be more comfortable and I like that they are hinged in the middle. I think that the seats are about the only thing that is different between the 78 & 79? What exactly are the black wheels on your vette? I absolutely love the look of the black wheels and white letter tires. I have painted my stock steel wheels gloss black with white letter tires. Your car is beautiful.

We are definately in a different generation from each other. But FYI, I grew up with zero airbags... that is something from the future LOL Also, interior was not designed for future people either hahaha... it's a muscle/sportscar... it's designed to go out drive and enjoy the actual scenery, not the interior haha :D what you need to do is maybe look back at cars in 1979 and see what they had, then compare to those :) not todays cars. Cheers!

Hahah! Love this comment! You are absolutely right, I guess It is more me giving a honest perspective on a younger person buying such car rather than something newer. But trust me, there is a reason why i Bought this car and not a car with airbags or safety haha. Good point, I may do a research on how to compare cars from the year (mid to late 70s) and see how corvette was a futuristic car back then.

78 rear windows don’t open
@fathergratwick Жыл бұрын
It helps to understand why.. The bubble windows were a later c3 add on to try to change the look if a by then 10 year old stale car design to boost sales... they were also trying to keep the cost and weight down as added mandatory safety and emissions equipment like bumperttes and hardware under the bumpers were already robbing what power and engineering budget it did have and making it heavier.. I believe weight was added for rigidity when they finally did make the rear hatchback model
@c3sgarage Жыл бұрын
Great info! I also want to reiterate that only later, 2 models came with this option from factory,sadly the ppl that I have asked on this have mentioned that it is a pain due to water leaks, noises, and misalignment from body warping over the years.

I had a 79. Interior was crap. Bought a new dash for it,… still crap. Wish I had gutted it and made a 50/60s race style dash and trashed the center console. Now have a 75 and it’s better but not much. My 02 is much nicer on the inside and by Porsche or Jag standards it is still sub par.
@c3sgarage Жыл бұрын
I thought about doing an interior swap when I first got it but that thought went away pretty quickly once I found the car’s other problems haha. My friend has an 03 vette and I agree, they were in my opinion touching borderline supercar interiors from the time, while keeping a muscle car personality. The C5 truly showed what was to come from new gen vettes. Props on your car!
