Forgot that laptop users also exist. You can of course also swap your SSD between your laptop and enclosure, use SSD from old laptop, etc.

DO these enclosure types work just like the portable ones? Also why do those even exist ? iF one can just slap an enclosure on an internal ssd
@TechReflex6 күн бұрын
@@kovelamanas9905 Yeah, they just work like portable ones. 'Those' exist, because majority of people aren't technologically aware enough to select an SSD and put it into an enclosure.

If i just want to use it as an external ssd then for the same price is buying an external ssd better than an nvme with enclosure since I'll be limited by the usb speed anyways? I'm considering buying either the Kingston xs1000 or a wd sd580 with a pibox enclosure. I'm leaning towards Kingston because it seems more reliable in terms of build and service. But I'm not sure . Can you give suggestions.
@TechReflex15 сағат бұрын
@@Averageguy007 from what I can see online, SN580 has a 340 GB SLC Cache, while XS1000 has around 150 GB SLC Cache, which is a serious difference. So yeah, buying SN580 is still better, but if you really want a more compact form factor, the Kingston SSD will also be fine. Not sure if the difference in SLC Cache will make a difference for you.

Did you take into consideration Samsung portable SSD's which come with shockproof cases and water-resistant ones and what about the speeds have you tried Samsung T7 or T9 ext. SSD's please do try them to have a better perspective. Thanks
@TechReflex5 күн бұрын
Yeah I did take that into consideration. 40Gbps enclosures are at least 50% faster than Samsung T9 3.2 Gen 2x2 SSDs. There are also shockproof and waterproof enclosures available if you want that. Though, M.2 SSDs are naturally drop resistant, because they are light weight, have no moving parts, and the general casing of a enclosure is good enough to make them survive general drops, but for more serious drops, one can go for enclosures with more resistance.
