As a black female gamer... this book spoke to me on an internal level!! The plot twist was perfect to me. Another reminder that there is still work to be done in my own community.

perpetualpages imagine if Slay was REAL!!!! I would cry

I read Slay this month and ADORED it. It's all you say in here and more! Honestly you could have done a 20 reasons video for this book haha. One of my favourite points you made was this idea of the world of Slay being not only a safe place but a sacred place. I feel like that explains the motives behind the creation and community of the game. One of my favourite aspects was the friendship between Claire and Keira. Also I like the 'do you eat meat' in your thumbnail. It made me chuckle. Loved this video and this book!

Thank you!! I agree, you could totally make a list of like 30 reasons why this book succeeds and you could still have so much more to talk about! It's a true testament to Brittney Morris' talent as an author and how much she values community 📚💕

Great review. I read this book last year after hearing Jesse from Bowties and Books talk about it, and it became an all time favorite.

Just added this to my TBR! I love the idea of contemporary exploring relevant topics through gaming.

As if should be! The story definitely feels equal parts contemporary and scifi because of all the gaming scenes, and I love how it came together in such a special way!
