Happy booktube anniversary. Really enjoyed your thoughts on the book. I feel it is having a little revival lately and had me question unhauling it after years of not reading it a few years ago.

Yay, 11 years is an amazing achievement! I've just been reading (listening to) "The Wicked Bargain" by Gabe Cole Novoa (YA) and wondered if you'd read it. I'm not quite halfway yet but I'm enjoying it and would love to see you review it. Do you take recommendations?

Congratulations 🎉 I read The Goblin Emperor last year and ended up with essentially the same thoughts/opinions as you 😅 I haven't read any further in the series yet, but will definitely be interested to hear your review if you do!

I recently read The Night Wanderer by Drew Hayden Taylor, and while the novel itself is longer, I found out it has also been adapted into a graphic novel! It's about an Anishinaabe vampire who went to Europe and got turned shortly after Europeans first landed in the Americas, but now is coming home to connect with his community. And while it's more fluffy than spooky, I love Mooncakes by Wendy Xu and Suzanne Walker, which is about a witch and werewolf fighting a demon that's trying to steal the werewolf's power

Yay, I was right! I made a guess from the thumbnail. I love this book! If I may recommend a book in the same vein that I think actually does what you're looking for, try Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard. There's a sequel with at least one more main series book coming, about a half dozen companion/interlocutary novels and novellas and cameos EVERYWHERE. Short pitch: a career civil servant wages the softest coup.

I am sending virtual hugs from Germany. I hope you are kind to yourself and take care of yourself - as you are taking care of us with your amazing content. This is a great list of books to look forward to. I really hope we will get the 3rd book in the Legendborn series and the 4th Morrigan Crow book next year. That would definitely bring me tons of joy, which is very much needed. (Germany will have elections early next year and I don't think we will do quite as horribly, but I also fear the outcome.)

oh my, it'a been so long since I've read a C. B. Lee book! Haven't yet finished the Not your villain series, it's so good. that Stephen Graham Jones one sounds amazing, I did't have a lot of luck with his work (didn't enjoy Night of the manequins and The last final girl). But I'll definitely check out his new work ❤

I thought so too, but I'm not sure! We haven't had any updates in a while, and there's no guarantees since it was a contract with a small press that hasn't published anything new in a while either. We'll have to see, but nothing guaranteed at the moment, sadly!

I forgot Isabel Cañas announced her newest book! I still need to read The Hacienda after reading Vampires of El Norte this year. I found a full synopsis on Penguin Random House's website with a release date, and I am really excited to read a new horror novel from her. I read my first Silvia Moreno-Garcia novel this year with her newest release, so I am even more excited to check out her next horror novel with witches. I am curious to check out Danica Nava's next novel since that one is calling to me moreso than her debut novel. I love watching anticipated releases videos! They give me an opportunity to check out new-to-me authors.

I finally read A Power Unbound this October and really really loved it. It made me want to read the whole trilogy again because I’ve always had almost a year between reading the books but I’m also excited to get into more of Freya Marske, so I’m excited for Swordcrossed! And although I’ve never heard of it before, The Nightmare Before Kissmas sounds absolutely up my alley, I will definitely try to read that in December! The Seep also sounds really captivating, so if I get a chance I might give that a try as well. Thanks so much for the video, I appreciate the time and energy you put into making these. :)

I loved Swordcrossed! But I think I'll love pretty much anything Freya Marske writes! 😅 Looking forward to The Nightmare Before Kissmas! I'm doing a gift exchange with one of my in-person book groups, and I marked this book at my most wanted, so hopefully I'll get to read it in December!

29:00 Yeah, an editor should definitely have caught or at least known to look up whether two holidays are the same thing instead of near on the calendar. 🎃 I was reeeaaally uncomfortable with how much Target was pushing Day of the Dead merch this year (2024), especially as part of browsing Halloween decor.

My most recent borrows from the library are the novels Frankenstein - I haven't ever read it! - and The Honey Witch. In other reviews of Chlorine, I can't remember if readers mentioned the chronic pain aspect? That's a huge part of my invisible disabilities, but I don't think In in a headspace where i can handle all the horror and abuse aspects - oh, yeah, and the specific habits of her eating disorder are a hard stop for me. Tysm for including content notes and closed captions! I'm always excited to see you've posted. ❤️🧡💛💚💜🖤🏳️🌈♾️♿

20:00 The Seep sounds captivating. Premises like this always remind me of Captain Kirk's line in the OG Star Trek movies - I think it's the 5th movie? "I don't want you to take away my pain! I need my pain! It helps me know who I am!" His closest friend(s) then realize they've agreed to become undiscerning thralls to a charismatic leader and return to Kirk's side to share in his fate.

Destroyer is so good! I'd forgotten that I have actually read two by Victor LaValle (The Ballad of Black Tom being the other--also recommended!). And I just read The Halloween Tree this year for the first time, and...sadly, didn't love it, even though Bradbury is one of my favorite writers. I obviously need to check out the animated adaptation! Thanks for the great list!

I need to reread "if we were villains" eventually, but first I want to read the mentioned Shakespeare works because it felt like I was missing something:') Ohhh, I still need to read gathering moss but it's nice to know that Kimmerer has a new book coming out 🐢✨️

Congrats on reading so much 🐢✨️ Vespertine is still on my list, I enjoyed the authors works so far! Andrew Joseph White's books always got great covers, I haven't picked up anything else after Hell followed with us though because I'm not sure if I can handle the CW at the moment. But maybe next year :')

That "love in the time of Cholera" edition looks so pretty! Unfortunately, I didn't like it even though the story was never boring and had some fun messy drama. I still want to read the other two classics you showed! Hope you enjoyed the ones you haven't read yet :)
