MrPetrolekas well sir well done .. and you made a very good choice ! I was a Honda - Suzuki technician back in the 1970's when dual sport bikes were first being born and when we got the first of the DR's from Suzuki was like a dream come true . the DR350 was the best for the trade off between the handling of a 250 and the power of a 500 ...and biggest thing about what you bought is the fact that dual sport bikes are the safest handling and the most easiest most forgiving bikes on or off the road of anything else on two wheels ..making dual sport the easiest way anyone can learn all the skills to ride anything safely and stay alive ..something the millennials fail to understand and bad habits with two wheels never last ! like buying a crotch rocket for a beginner is the worst choice .. back to the dirt it was always considered a "250" two stroke was the ideal size for all around handling and performance ...but todays "250" four strokes become very boring very quickly .. and then came what you have two day is a bike than can sustain high way legal speeds and still cut up a trail like a pro ! first thing you will need above everything else is a full set of hand guards that clamp onto the bars and also bolt into the ends of the bars completely protecting all of the controls on your handlebars ..will save you huge dollars from just dropping your bike ..not to mention pushing your bike back to civilization from a busted throttle or lever

For me it's two things. #1 the riding, it's my version of freedom. Getting off road and being confident enough to try almost anything does wonders for my soul. #2. It's the people. I went on what I thought was going to be a very lonely day in a new riding area last weekend and while sitting in the parking lot reviewing the trail map and forest info I met two of the coolest guys I've met in a long time. We as dual sport riders are our own kind. I had an amazing day and made two new friends I can't wait to ride with again.

Raced & rode all the time, from age 10 - 35. Then life happened, and I didn't ride at all, other than street, for about 16 years. At age 51, my step son, nephews, and their friends, started bugging me to start riding off road again. Bought a used XR 600, with a plate. That was it, for me. Right away rekindled the fire for off road riding. Gonna be 66 in November, and ride a lot now. I have done hundreds of dual sport rides, and always am giddy for the next one. Like Everide said...the dual sport community is loaded with the best people that I have ever come in contact with. Riding keeps you in shape, and keeps you young. Very thankful for the dual sporters, and all of the awesome times, spent together with these folks. On my 4th dual sport bike now. KTM 450. Has more miles than it should, but still rips. Dual sporting is the fountain of youth for you fellow people that think you are too old to ride. Get one!!! You will be amazed, at how it will improve your life.

What a great example of what life itself should be all about and not just motorbikes. Its a pity so many of us spend so much time in our life focussing on things we as individuals think are important because of the environment that surrounds us and the responsibilities that modern day society's plagues us with thank you for sharing and pointing out some home truths. Another great example of what life can be like if you take a leap of faith and grasp the opportunity. Regards from down under.

In spite of the fact I've done 57000Km on my CB500X, pretended to myself it's an "Adventure Bike", and taken it on some very gnarly, long trails - you are on point. Doing my own major service proved to be more difficult than it would have been on a dual sport, it will break if I bottom out and I really need to change it from road tyres (I've kept them 'cos I've been known to ride 600Km paved road to get to where I start the off-road bit - I just let them down 10-15 psi for the dirt and avoid really wet conditions). Still - it has been a superbly reliable bike, I can't afford another bike, or a trailer set-up, or the rally raid for the X - so I'll just keep on pretending and enjoy the proverbial out of it :) Excellent summary about dual-sports mate, very informative and, as always, brilliantly presented. Ride safe buddy.

An old tw200 which is not much (because I'm not a little guy) but its what I could afford. And I look forward to all the adventures it'll take me on till I get out of college and can buy something newer. But the videos really make me want to just drop everything and ride the TAT across the states! Love the videos and please keep them coming!

Yeah the UK is tiny and virtually no true wilderness, I'd hate to live there just because of that alone. Come to Canada during the summer, you'll never run out of new trails to try. Atlantic Canada and British Colombia are the most beautiful in my opinion. BC is a bit more beautiful, but Atlantic Canada has nicer people living there.

I love this. I just bought my first dual sport (a little Suzuki 200) a couple of month ago, and have had a blast on that little monkey. I've ridden Harleys for ever, and had absolutely no clue as to how much fun these suckers are. I was advised to start small, as it's an entirely different kind of a ride, and you gotta crawl before you walk. WHAT?? IN THE ROUGH YOU RIDE STANDING UP??!! WTF??!! In truth, at my off road skill level this is the perfect beginner bike for me. Also, the little sucker only cost about four grand, and gets 75mpg, so it didn't break the bank. It goes about 65mph on the road, and does great off road. It's kinda like having your own personal carnival ride. I'm 67 now, and wish I would have known about this 25 years ago. Be safe out there kids. Don't knock an eye out.

Nice vid! I used to have an XT250 when I lived in MN. It was great fun in the desert, as long as I stated in lower elevations. I just got a vstrom 650 & love riding it, although I've not gotten off road with it, yet.

XXXDEADHEAD there are dirt roads near where you live I guarantee it, Just look around on google maps. I never thought there were trails near me because i live just a couple miles outside of Boston but i looked around and there are actually a lot of trails near me. Some i found online, some i found while riding around, and some i found by running into some kids on four-wheelers

My #1 reason was briefly mentioned. I grew up in the country riding dirt bikes and wanted to ride again. But Now I live in the heart of town and didn’t have or want to pay for a truck with today’s truck prices to haul a dirt bike around.

I like them so much I have 2! I picked up a new BMW1250 as I am almost at retirement age (54) and want to do some long trips with a lot of pavement to cover to get to the dirt roads. I also have a KTM 350 EXC-F (more enduro) whilst I am working in the Congo , DRC Africa. We have 7 riders from work as well as other ex-pats from various industries that get together and ride on our off time every weekend. The friendships you build, the experiences you share, and the pure enjoyment of getting out and challenging yourself, is very satisfying. I just came across this channel and have subscribed, as I am always looking for advice and tips from other riders. I look forward to watching more and following along as new videos and posts arrive!

When you posted this 5 months ago I was in the same place. I'd sworn off motorcycles 40 years ago because I was an idiot and knew I'd probably kill myself. Then I got my little XT and have been as happy as a pig in . . . the mud! It's probably like using drugs but without the downside risk. The good part lasts longer and the recovery is just the warm glow of a few sore muscles and minor bruises. Did JefferysWorld get one yet? :-D

lol. I love both these posts. I also watched these vids wanting a dual sport. About 1 1/2 years watching and thinking and planning. I just Got my DRZ400 last week and love it. Im 42 and I also swore off bikes when I was young cause I'm an idiot and would have killed myself. Hell I should be dead from what I did in cars. I had no business being on a bike. But now Im a much more older and wiser idiot!!!

I’m 62, haven’t ridden a dirt bike since 1970s on honda cr250 Elsinore. It’s been 40 years. The DRZ is tall and heavy, but after getting back into decent shape and some practice leaning it over and squirting out, it’s starting to feel pretty natural again. All this KZbin instruction is also great. Never had any back in the day. My kids think I’m crazy and cool, I think. Really helped me get in shape and sharpen old reflexes.

So glad I got one. 17' Honda Africa Twin. Loving every minute of it. Came with street tires so I've only done some minor off road but as soon as those wear down I'll be getting some 50/50 and next year me and a buddy are starting the TransAmerican trail. So excited!

Big ups to the dualsport community Iam a beginner/ noob in the moto world got a suzuki dr650 and I'm loving the freedom this bike is offering me. Been working on my off roading skills and able to apply alot of what I learned to the road that makes me more aware of things like cornering or rear braking. Been riding year round as well, snow, rain, sand, dirt, mud, cant stop a dualsport.

Riding my Z750 on the "limited" road, often gets my head going, what if I don't want to follow this current path, getting tired of the "status keep up"and careful cleaning after just a few miles. Want to go beyond and explore. I knew for many years I eventually was going try it out, but your videos accelerated that process hugely. Thank you everide. Best regards from DK

OK, OK, I subbed because of this video, even though I've watched a bunch of your vids. I was brought to your channel because of a fellow YT channel (I'll come back and edit when I remember). I'm 61 and vertically challenged. It's hard to improve on my farm bike: TW200! I have a Burgman 400 as well. And I ride my friend's Triumphs, he has a dozen bikes. I started riding in '75, and used to have ten bikes at a time. I still have an '85 Honda V65 Sabre in the garage. You tell us about your bikes, I just gave you a key hole glimpse about mine. Keep up the good work.
