Hey I guess Im leaning towards the dislike civil engineering side. Please note that I said civil and not structural engineering. I worked as a site/shop floor engineer for about 4 years in 3 different companies in Asia. And the hours were super loong. But the main problem that I faced was the politics and, should things go south, the finger pointing to blame people. From my visibility and opinions from a couple of friends, this work culture is prevalent in most civil engineering companies in the region. And this was reflected in the engineering offices too. Just wanted to rant. Feels good to blow off some steam.🙂

Reason #1 is to true. "Everything you ever wanted to know you learned in Statics and Mechanics of Materials." Over and over and over again my professor said this in every one of his advanced design class lectures. The more I practice, the more I realize how correct he was!
@SarahCunningham713 жыл бұрын
Love your energy and point of view! Found myself nodding in agreement to most of these points, and I've been doing this for almost 3 decades. Wish KZbin was a thing back then, and that I made videos talking about my work. That archive of what it was like would be amazing to have to review. Also...is it just me, or does every civil engineer find Statics to be the! hardest! while they're taking it but as soon as it's over and you revisit some of that in other classes, it's like the simplest thing ever and just clicks into place?
@ZiebartPatel3 жыл бұрын
Mam! Just observe the worst scenario for Civil/Mechanical/Electrical in India. Civil Engineers are the poorest among all engineers. And the payscale downgrades them to the status of a mason.

I have currently enrolled for a master's degree in structural engineering at California State University Northridge, first of all, since you're at California, what do you think about this university? Secondly and most importantly, do you need to gain experience as a site engineer in order to find a job in the structural engineering consultancy? Also, what types of internships would you recommend for structural engineering students?

Welp. I'm currently a third year student. I already finished taking up Mechanics of Materials but I feel like I didn't learn anything. The online class is ruining me. I can't focus on studying. We used to have group studies during face-to-face but now, I have to study on my own. So I ended up cheating on that subject on every opportunity there is. Well, on my defense, I didn't start cheating until after a month when I noticed that my classmates were just lax and copying answers from each other. I passed it with a 2.0 grade but I'm so disappointed with myself. How can I redeem myself? I'm trying to be optimistic abt this since this is the only subject I really cheated almost everything but I still don't know where to start. You know people don't change overnight. I still have that mentality to compare efforts with others but my inner anxiety is making my mind restless to make changes in me. I'm a competitive person and I get fueled by seeing other people work hard but due to pandemic, I don't feel any burning desire anymore.
