I can't even go see a doctor anymore because medical insurance is too high, and the state of Georgia doesn't want to bump up paying wages for employees. You either have to work yourself until exhaustion to get insurance, be on your parents' insurance, or don't get any and suffer on your own. Overall, America needs to do a heck of a lot better for its citizens to be honest.

I live in the US & healthcare cost is very HIGH..I have full premium health insurance too!! It’s very inspiring to know that a country has MASTERED the health care & pharmaceutical companies! I’ve visited Seoul 2xs in 2022 & 2023..I did visit a dentist & doctor for consultations & I was very assured that they are more than capable to do the job..I will be visiting in Oct 2023 & I will book the doctor appointments that I decided to go with! Thank you for this very detailed and informative video!!! 👏🏼💖

Thank you for this education!! As always I love your show. Would love to hear more about this too. I have friends in South Korea And we have been on the phone together chatting when they went to the doctors and I have been astounded at the difference between their health care and ours. It is so much better there. In real practical everyday terms it is so much better there. I don't even remember the last time I went to the doctor and I have health issues because it's too expensive to consider it.

In the USA they would call that socialized medicine and many members of the powers that be would be totally against it. The health care system in the USA is complicated to say the least.

Well I live in Canada for 40 years now. I am a Canadian citizen, so I am covered for the health system that the government pay. Even if you are not a Canadian citizen, but a landed immigrant you don’t pay for health system. When you are retired the government pays for the medicine and you don’t have to worry about it. It is another thing with the dental system, that, you have to have a health insurance or you pay from your pocket. We can’t complain here in Canada, very different from US. Everything is covered by the government, only some exceptions, but mostly everything is paid. 😊

Don’t they encourage euthanasia in Canada? And don’t the rich go outside the health system for care?
@Eaglesmusic
@Eaglesmusic Жыл бұрын
@@niniruffles856 And? What that has to do with what we are talking here? I am not saying that it is the best health care in the world, what I am saying is that at least the government pays for the health system for us the citizens. We are not talking about what you mention, and that is if a person has a terminal illness, and that has to be approved. I think you are going out of the context here. Have you lived in Canada, or live right now in Canada? Probably they have their good things and their bad things like any other country, but we were talking here if we have to pay or not for health care. I just talked about what it is, according if we have to pay or not for health care. That’s all.

Malpractice insurance is super high in the U.S., so the doctors pass that expense on to the people as well. It's so high because people sue for every little thing over here. Our society has become so "entitled" that people think they have a right to whatever they want. There are a lot of ridiculous things in the United States, healthcare is just one of them.

I'm in the UK, and our National health service is at breaking point. You can't get doctors appointment, takes months to get a referral to see a consultant. Things definitely need to change in this country.

Not just that but when your issues are downgraded, ignored, mistreated, misprescribed etc. Sorry I have put in way much more than I ever get out because the objective is to keep the numbers down and "save money". But it's not doing either of those by pushing issues back to breaking point. I do not go to NHS at all if I can help it for my own sanity...I've been gaslighted and treated like I'm exaggerating or trying to "get a diagnosis" as if that's something really really bad! Oh yes and patronised as if I have no intelligence and I know nothing about my own symptoms and body I live in every single day and night! I dare say I may know a tad more albeit in non medical language and unproven scientifically because it's impossible to get the tests. But at least with my own research I have information towards resolution as opposed to the reverse!

Talk to me about it. I just had a kidney stone removed and the hospital bill was $11k. Just to remove a tiny pebble! And that doesn’t even count the urologist and anesthesiologist cost. I haven’t received those bills yet. My out of pocket so far is $2700. Let my story encourage everyone to stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids.

Sorry to say sean but south korea is number 28 in ranking 🙈 denmark is number one and my country : Norway is number 2.. Here in norway you have to pay a set amount of 295.201.88 won if you pay that everything else is free, like taking x-ray’s, blood checks, going to the doctor or the hospital, and also therapy is included in that.. what i can say is that i think the doctors in south korea is better than what we have bc in south korea everything is a competition here in norway is more chill, if people don’t pass the first time it’s not the end of the world if you get my drift?

This is great info - thank you! Maybe this is just in K-drama but with such great affordable healthcare in Korea, why do some people not go to the hospital due to high cost? Is it because they are indigent (though they seem like low to middle-class people in the show!) or is it because some serious illnesses like cancer are not covered by the national insurance? Would love to understand this situation a bit better from you and appreciate it!

Sean, just a few things to think about! 1) The whole country South Korea is about the size of one of our states of which we have 50 so containment of fewer people is so much easier. 2) Most of the world’s medical research is done in America and someone has to pay for that so they hit us up for that. 3) We do have the best doctors in the world with the exception of a few and if it’s a life or death situation it comes in handy. 4) Because we are such a large country there is tons of dishonesty and corruption which is a huge negative. I think it would be much better if each state had their own medical system then it could be controlled and would work like it does in South Korea. If one would want to see a renowned physician in another state or country and could afford it they could negotiate directly with that doctor or hospital. 5) Getting a medical degree or specialist degree costs a lot of money and doctors usually are paying off huge loans for their medical degrees. It’s not a simple fix in this country as a population of 332 million people vs a population of 52 million is quite a bit larger. I have to admit at one time in US history the medical system was much better handled than it is today. I could go on but you get my drift. Business works the same way! One location and group of employees with a good working model that can be controlled but start branching out and there are too many variables, too many personalities with different work ethics getting out of control! Where does your population go when it is a life or death situation? Does the country really meet all the needs necessary to give the best medical care?

I lived 20 years in Korea....I can't compare with the USA system ( even if my best friend , american, told me about it..and he praised ours, the french healthcare system) but I have some experiences of all we went trhough, my wife, my kids and myself. I will give you just one example. My son had a big health problem and had to be taken to the st Maria hospital in Seoul ( nearest to where we lived).....Even if my son was actually in great danger ( the doctor said he may die if I take him home as his blood did not stop), they did not accept him.....unless I pay in advance for the bed, and so on. I just can't forget that: I had to leave my 8 years old boy alone in the hospital....and not in a room, go home, take some money, ask a teacher from the french school to lend me some more ( at that time 1993, I did not have bank card and of course the banks are closed in the evening....). And when I payed they told me, it's just enough for one day, you have to pay more....tomorrow. He ended up 10 days in this hospital . Now, back to France I also faced some sudden health problem and was rushed to the emergency room ( I am over 60). No one did mention anything about money, cost etc. They only cared about my health....and of course I did not pay a cent. I love Korea , the people and many other things....and the high qualified doctors and all: but went it comes to money????? Or, maybe things have changed.... I hope so.

I live in SC. I work for the state and still pay so much for health insurance but then still can’t afford to go. I have a good copay it’s the bill that comes later that is so much. Then I’m making payments for the rest of the year. I have dental but can’t afford to go because of the cost. Dental is more one of those where the coverage is crappy and you pay a lot out of pocket and unlike a physician you aren’t billed the rest you have to pay a lot upfront. I have a friend who is a English teacher in Korea and he always brags about how great the health care services are there. He even showed the packs of meds in stead of the bottles. He is always amazed how great the care is there!

So interesting! Thanks. Our US system is broken. I have a question - or maybe an idea for a show. Can you explain the Korean military rules for soldiers making money or doing anything commercial while enlisted? I am curious (of course!) because of BTS. When JHope enlisted BigHit released 2 pictures of all 7 members including Jin in uniform. However - when they made a video they did not show Jin (even though he was there) and the commentary said they were adhering to some kind of military rule. So what is the deal? As more and more BTS members enroll - will they be able to do anything beyond "still" photos? Is the reason why they can't be included in a video because youtube is monetized? Thanks for any information!!

I pay group health insurance in America and is more complex as there is fully insured and self insured, but the basics are the same. Here as simple breakdown how group insurance works: there is a yearly deductible, then claims are payable at 100, 80 or 50% based on the Tier, then when the out of pocket maixmum is satisfied, claims are paid at 100% for the balance of the year.

Sean, our medical insurance system works the same way as yours. I see my doctor all the time and never pay a dime. It depends on what insurance you choose and can afford. I have a Medicare Advantage policy where you pick the most out-of-pocket money you will have to pay for the year and the rest is free. If you don’t get really sick and have to go into the hospital the out-of-pocket deductible is never an issue. You also don’t pay that total amount if you don’t stay very long in the hospital as your bill will be less and you only have to pay a percentage of the bill until you reach your total out-of-pocket which then is free as you have met your deductible for the year! It is very reasonable.

Don’t know, but they removed a Korean man’s prostate by accident and it was in Asan. The next horror story was the accidental abortion performed on a Vietnamese couple from Vietnam traveling on vacation in South Korea for a routine checkup for the pregnant spouse. It was accidental because they placed the wrong medical placard on the patients bed. The Doctor instead of performing a check up put the lady to sleep and performed an abortion! The nurse had apparently placed the wrong clipboard on her bed! Absolutely ridiculous the next horror story is that college kid who pretended to be friends with that Chungang medical college student and was photographed sitting over a passed out person before they died and disappeared in the Han River. The kids parents were owners of stomach and anal cancer hospital in Gangnam, South Korea. They supposedly switched cellphone with the dead student to hide their location for four days before the medical students body miraculously reappeared from the Han River with large cuts and bruises on the back of their head! Even the medical autopsy and medical treatment refuted these bruises . Amazing a corpse reappears with large head bruises but the medical practitioners refused to report these findings seen on television to the public! Amazingly stupid career medical professionals or crack cocaine addicted law and media personnel! It’s drugs or no drugs just absolute jokesters working the medical and law enforcement profession on taxpayers benefits!

In the U.S. people have had horrors done to them. Needing a leg removed in surgery the wrong one is removed yet the bad one still had to get removed. A healthy woman goes in to deliver her baby in a week she dies from internal bleeding that turned into an infection too far gone to cure. Just make a Google search for the number of wrong surgical procedures. Mexico has excellent physicians.

Korea does provide mental health care. Hiring companies just see potential employee who visits mental health professionals as defects. The companies would not hire them. Companies do have access to people's medical records. The fault lies with the companies rather than the health care system.
