100% agree with you Tall Guy. Super epic and incredible series. Once you get past the obvious Dune overtones, it's one of my all time favorites and that's saying something. Also, Half-Mortal is up there with the Reaper of Mars and Paul Atreides as my favorite badass sci fi characters

I just finished Empire of Silence. As I mentioned on one of your most recent videos, I had never heard of this series (unbelievably!), but was really enjoying the read. I think its biggest issue is...people making it past Empire of Silence, nto that is is a bad book at all...i personally enjoyed it But its like a 'small' stepping stone in to something that expands sooooo much and gets way better as the books go along it does feel like appreciation for the series is growing though as the last few books have been amazing. And in turn its picking up a lot of recommendations across various formats.

This is a series I've been on the fence with the last couple of years so I had it penciled in for my 2023 tbr. Empire of Silence is definitely the foundational book in terms of the story, but when you get to the last 100 pages of EoS and then go into HD, everything changes and the series really turns into something so unique I can't really name anything else like it. I hope you continue to push through because it's an insane roller coaster ride you are getting close to!

I'm definitely sold on this series, and it sounds like exactly what I've been looking for, trying to get into something Sci Fi/Space Opera (I usually only read Fantasy). But, I'm a stickler for hardcovers. I feel the need to wait for some kind of special edition of the first 3 books (Broken Binding?). The first 3 are incredibly rare and expensive, but the novella collections seem to be non-existent. I haven't found these for sale anywhere...at all... 1) The Lesser Devil and Other Stories 2) Queen Amid Ashes and Other Stories

As far as the novella collections go, those were both done by Anderida Books and were limited/numbered editions so if you can find them, they'll probably be pretty pricey since they're out of print now, but Amazon has "The Lesser Devil" and "Queen Amid Ashes" as paperbacks you can buy, which is the route I went! Red Rising is one of my all time fav series along with First Law,also huge Star Wars Fan, so do you think will like this series??since you have read this and Red Rising, how would you compare the two? Do you prefer one over the other ?

I think based on that there is a good chance you will like this series, but while Sun Eater is definitely inspired by all of that, it certainly takes it in an entirely new direction that is very much its own thing! I think outside of the space opera setting/setup, it's such a vastly different story from Red Rising! I think on a personal level, I've enjoyed my time reading Sun Eater more than I have reading Red Rising, but I don't dislike Red rising at all...I'm actually going through the whole series right now for the second time and loving it even more on a reread! I think Sun Eater really goes into directions that I wasn't expecting when I first started it and it has paid off in spades for me personally!

You can really feel your passion for these books, but maybe you could add more specific information in the future. You mention classic tropes it uses, but don't tell us which ones. You mention Hadrian has both good and bad traits, but not which ones. You mention each book is its own subgenre, but not which one. You say the side-characters are great, but don't tell us who they are or what their role in the story is. I say this not to be rude, because I recognize I myself get too vague when I talk about books I love, in fear of accidental spoilers. Just personally, this series is long and I would need to know more before I make the commitment. I have been burned too many times before lol.

Hi Alex. You've made this sound highly desirable to read. I have one suggestion for your videos. Please use the word 'incredible' less often. When a viewer hears it so much in a review fatigue sets in. Its' usage then has the opposite effect of what the author intended. You've got solid content. I might add Suneater for the latter half of my own 2023 TBR. Happy holidays.
