The biggest reason that I started following Bleepin Jeep originally was because Matt did builds using budget friendly parts and processes without lifts and other things that most of us don't have access to. I know you have some nicer tools now, but always loved how you kept it budget friendly and explain why you do things the way you do.

I'm a Brit, ex-soldier and Land Rover fan since the 1960s. We, Peter Raphael and I a set up a Land Rover / Mini Cooper garage in Tangier, Morocco, North Africa - ostensibly to service the vehicles of the local Princess Lala Fatima Zohra - but that contract never really materialised. We persevered and bought the lease on a small hotel - taking on a third partner who knew a lot more about the catering business. The garage and hotel businesses flourished we sold them, dissolved the businesses and went out separate ways. I set up a business with several Land Rovers (plus a supply truck) supporting oil exploration in Algeria, Niger, Mali and Mauritania - effectively providing remote mobile (tented) hotel and laboratory accommodation, totally sufficiently, for up to 6 to 8 weeks at a time until we returned to semi-civilisation for re-supply. I sold the business in 1975 and continued exploration in Asia - but that's another story.

Morning Colt, I posted up about your bumper about an hour ago on your facebook post about it. I do like this "bumper" that you have made but for me i would have gone back along the frame rails. You might want to cut the tube you use in half length wise and weld it in as a protector for that drain tube. These are just suggestions.
@tarrevizsla954311 күн бұрын
Just a thought, but would it have been easier to CNC Plasma the radii for the tube on your frame mounts? JW

@jperreault506211 күн бұрын
Looking great and excited to see you guys getting into CNC plasma and 3d printers. Once you get the hang of CAD it'll become second nature. 3d scanners are also cheap enough now to enter the garage. Currently working my way through a TJ back half with that toolset. So much nicer to sort out fuel cell/axle travel/bumpstops. As for the rollcage clearance, agreed you're away from the hardpoints. But the whole approach makes me nervous with non offroad drivers at the wheel. Are you guys running helmets and arm tethers? Head strike on a cage bar could be fatal. More than one newbie put their hand out the window on a near rollover last year. Don't mean to sound uptight, but really don't want bad things to ruin a great event.

Those plates look familiar. Lol. Did you get them from Instel? I got some like that for my Tacoma bumper build too. And I also literally got a Bambu Labs P1S printer too. I been having fun with it. Looks like you got the Carbon model. I bought a bunch of Glue sticks for it. But mine came with a textured bed plate and it looks like you also have the textured plate. I read that the textured plate does not need any glue. So far I been having great results without using the glue. So that might save you some change and labor. I just keep it cleaned by wiping it with alcohol. I also found it easier to remove done projects by pulling up and removing the bed plate. And giving it a litte flex and the project pops off easily.

I drove a 1st gen Disco for years. No need for a bumper, they don't go that fast and the death wobble slows it right down if you get up to a reasonable speed. Just need a tow point, the wrecker should have their own winch so you don't need that either. I would concentrate on keeping it cool so it doesn't self destruct. If you get a good one the Disco is a beast, get a bad one it will be a burden.

The reason it doesn’t split when you put the seam on the inside is because the metal is compressed when bent. When you put them seam on the outside the metal is stretched. With the seam being the weakest point in the tube.
