I'm a job classification analyst and compensation analyst by day and a résumé writer by night. I love these tips, especially the one about skills! It's exactly what I tell people constantly. If the job description doesn't "ring any bells" or feel familiar, go look for one that does. That one will be a better bet. Thanks for posting this!

What if you're someone who doesn't necessarily provide value? I show up to work on time. I do what's asked of me. I go home. How do I even provide value in say.. a data entry position? I type accurately. I get done quickly. I work hard. I learn quickly. Those things matter and transfer, but don't matter. What I bring is me - someone easygoing who works to live, not lives to work. Should I just give up now? What do I do? I'm qualified for the jobs I apply for, follow the resume advice (besides the providing value, because I can't think of how I do), write killer cover letters... And still don't get interviews. What do I do?
@craigcox5241
@craigcox5241 2 жыл бұрын
Reframe what you've just said and done with outcomes. You have great data entry skills, what has that helped your company achieve? What insights have the business gained from your contribution? Might seem weird or silly to try and suggest 'you' are the value but if you've enhanced reliability of data, increased outputs/quantity of entries or streamlined/improved any process at work... that's adding value! Highlight these in your resume. As the video says dont over think value. Employers are just looking for examples that you're prepared to apply your knowledge and skills and not just do the minimum ask.
@Jimothy-723

@@craigcox5241 you realize that providing specific outcomes often constitutes economic espionage, right? for example: i cannot tell you any sales figures, employment records, inventories, or processes used at any of my jobs because i signed NDAs.

I find it daunting in this day of technology what a person has to do on there resume to try and get it looked at. I never had this issue before and always did my own resume and got hired. This is the first time, I am being challenged. I don't have the extra money right now to pay someone $150-200, to do my resume. I paid an on line service where you can choose from different templates and put in information and it will design the resume for you. A resume service just critiqued it and it's still has flaws and needs to be done over. 😩

Try this, after applying search for the company's recruiters on LinkedIn and message them expressing your interest then send your resume to them. That way you will have a human at least look at your resume

This was awesome. Thank you! It helps a lot that you talked about roles that are less metric driven. I've been frustrated with not being able to genuinely quantify impact. Some people put things like 'Did xyz which improved productivity by 200%' - How in the world did they come up with that number, and how is the metric of 'productivity' being measured? I've seen many examples of this type of metric and they all seem arbitrary and misleading because in many cases they could not possibly have the data points to come up with the 200% number.

Seems like Recruiting sites are just gathering resumes. People say, there are more positions than people, but people are applying by submitting 50-60 tailored resumes and “no result” for the ones who really do have the education and skillset. It’s almost like you have to know someone “at every submission”. It’s not like that extra skill can’t be learned on the job. That company trains you anyway, so what’s the problem.I plan to get into recruiting to get more people working than them just applying and getting no where.

I actually decided to make a brief resume just noting general job description and why I am no longer in the role and my skills because my full resume is 4 pages! My resume looks a bit job hoppish but every company I worked for has closed down or downsized - how do I clearly articulate this without judgement? It's all verifiable

The skills are more important than whether or not the company is still in operation. That said, if you have a heart for serving others, consider working in the public sector as a public servant. It can be very rewarding work, the opportunity for constant promotion is plentiful and the amount of skills and experience you build is amazing.

Great info Nicole. Question for you. If you run a company but are open to work, should you include your role and description as a founder or director on the resume or is it all dependent on the role you are applying for?
@nicolenyasha
@nicolenyasha 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I'd opt for the title related to the desired job vs owner this is a tricky one to answer because it depends on what kind of position you're looking for. Ultimately, you want to showcase the tasks/skills/accomplishments that are relevant to the desired role. I personally use what I actually do eg content creator/ career strategist vs owner/founder.

Do you think video interviews can have a negative impact on the person interviewing. As a professional with 20 years in the work force and switching careers, I recently did a video interview. Never heard back! I am a woman, a minority and mature. Why do I feel this video hurt my chances before I could sell myself at a in person interview?

Fast forward to 5:04 where she actually gets to the point. Since she's a recruiter, does she want to read a resume or cover letter where the whole first portion of it is filled with fluff before the applicant actually gets to the point? Probably not. She should do the same in here videos. And I don't feel like she really shares any mind-blowing information here. I'd say the majority, if not all, of what she is sharing is common sense if you're applying to a job. And why does she talk with her hands the whole time?
