Never imagined someone quoting Don Rickles and making me laugh as much as I just did, Thanks Rowan & Martin, you did 1-derfully and had Mr Rickles in stitches !!!

This is true class and comedy combined. Don Rickles picked on everyone. My favorite part is when Nipsey had his say. " Up Yours Don!" Imagine the laughter afterwards back stage. This era of comedians were politically incorrect to the max by today's standards. They could laugh at themselves and others. All races would burn each other hysterically.

Rowan & Martin, two of the greatest funny guys, watch the timing - fantastic!! Sadly, most of these funny men are no longer with us - never to be replaced.
Rowan and Martin. They deserve any comedy award they ever received. (btw, in those days this was very progressive and liberating humor. Seriously)

Could not agree more---oh man I was laughing so hard I was CRYING---Rowan and Martin really brought their A-game with this roast--awesome stuff!! (And to Don Rickles credit he got as much of a kick out of it as the audience did!!)

Laugh-in was on BBC2 late on Sunday night. “Sock it to me!”. “Very interesting, but also very stupid”. Comedy gold!
I'm not sure that Rowan and Martin were the best but they were very good. The best could be others like Abbot and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Milton Berle and Henny Youngman, Nixon and Agnew or even Spock and Bones. They all were pretty good.

I normally take great pains not to be hyperbolic, but this is legitimately one of the most subtle and layered comic routines of all time in my opinion. Rowan and Martin are casting aspersions on Don's whole act and persona, while at the same time communicating total appreciation and love for it. Not an easy circle to square, and they do it perfectly.
@jamesfeldman42345 жыл бұрын
Rowan and Martin, who were hilarious comedians, remind us here that Don Rickles' comedy is not so much in the lines, but in his masterful delivery and timing of those lines. Many of the world's greatest comics have acknowledged Rickles' particular skills in these areas. But the lines are still important, even if the delivery and timing of them are (deliberately) missing in the Rowan and Martin renditions of them, to make their own comic point. When Rickles earlier in his career tried to apply his sense of timing to telling regular jokes or doing impressions of famous people, he wasn't very successful. It was his discovery that had a real talent for dealing with hecklers and making terrific comedic comebacks by "attacking" them back. From there, he built his entire act around "killing" members of the audience, but in a comedic way.

Dan Rowan lived, ate and breathed show business. In 1975 Frank Sinatra threw a party at his house for the Apollo / Soyuz astronauts and cosmonauts. Rowan was there talking to a friend and the friend said, "Why don't you go over and meet the cosmonauts?". Rowan replied, "Oh, they don't want to meet me, they'd rather meet Sinatra". The other guy said, "Dan, these guys are from Russia, they don't even know who Sinatra is". Rowan was amazed that anyone could not know Sinatra and said, "Well, if they don't know Sinatra f--- 'em!"

@@tommyzielinski485 Well, back in the day and I am talking 40 years ago, it was still considered comedic to act drunk. However, things changed around 1980. Acting drunk for comedy just wasn't considered appropriate given the awareness of alcohol abuse.
