I always enjoy your lessons. I like how provide an example of which song would use the pattern. The 1-page PDF is a perfect reference. Thank you for your work... it is appreciated! 😁

Thank you, Karen! I'm always working hard to get people to understand the importance of scales. They are everywhere in so many genres of music, whether in order or out of order. I'm grateful you take the time to watch these videos and use the sheet music. I hope they continue to help you on your musical journey. Thanks for watching!

Great video Stephen! Can you do a video where you playing the U Bass with a pick with all the different strings like flats and rounds?
@stephencoxbass

That's a great idea! I have separate videos where I pick on each, but not one of all three that I can recall. I'll try to get on that soon. Thanks for the idea! Cheers!

Hi Steve. Sure do enjoy your videos. You’re a great teacher. I am in the market for a Ubass. So torn over the exotic mahogany and the journeyman. Primary concern like many others are the strings. Been playing ukulele for several years. I am very torn between the rubber strings stock with the exotic mahogany, and the round ones on the journeyman which I would definitely switch to immediately to flatwound. I am not an electric guitar player but have in the past played acoustic (ouch). Your opinion on whether I should start with the rubber strings and transition to the flats, or start with the flats, and forget the rubber strings. I’ve watched all your videos. Just can’t decide and don’t want to make a mistake, especially if it requires replacing the nut. hope this all makes sense and would appreciate your guidance. Thank you in advance. Dennis.

Hi Dennis, I think the Exotic Mahogany would be best if you have the budget. You can start with the rubber strings and transition to the flats whenever you want to. The rubber strings are definitely easier to hold down though they take some getting used to. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for your reply Steve. Decisions are always a challenge. And the budget certainly has an impact on it. Keep up the great work. Dennis.

May I ask another question Steve. Do the gallistring flatwounds have black silk wrapped around each end of the string or just plain like most steel strings? Thanks again. Dennis

One quick question in between, Stephen. What kind of strings do you have on this Kala? They look so much thinner than the usual Aquila Guts or metal strings. More like Nylons from a acoustic Concert Guitar. And they sound nice.

These are the Kala Silver Plated Round Wounds. They are metal strings with a nylon core. They are over 4 years old, but they still sound good after all this time! Thanks for watching!

@@stephencoxbass Thank you for your kind reply, sir! I found your video about these strings kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZOqd5err5itqrc I made a bookmark, so when the time has come for changing the strings, I will quite likely pick them. thx

Every time I practice Scales. Whether it be on the Violin when I was a kid, on the Piano, On my Upright Bass, on one of my electric Bass, or Ukulele Bass, or my Saw, LOL, it reminds me of this short 1.5-minute comedic movie Scene. Yes, it's a Violin scene (reminds me of when I was a kid playing the Violin, but still the point still stands) LOL. kzbin.info/www/bejne/imbZnZuLi7-jg7M I know. Everyone is like Scales? Boring. I was that way when I was like 5 years old practicing scales on my Violin. But as I got older I recognize how important it is to know how the notes correlate to each other and go together. It is good to practice and play straight scales and know what they are but eventually, that gets mundane so I have learned how to practice and keep up with my scales while keeping things interesting and fun. This gets to my point of you doing the same thing with your videos as always. As I said initially, Scales can be boring but even by just teaching Scales, you make Scales interesting and fun. Great reminder lesson for me at least and a good video as always. Now if you would excuse me, I have some scales to attend to. 5 in fact. Until the next Video or Live Stream... Cheers 😀

I never even thought about saw scale practicing! That sounds dangerous! I enjoyed the clip, and feel like scales often induce anxiety. I'm glad I can inspire you and others to practice and make the connections between scales and notes. As always, I greatly appreciate you watching and commenting. May your practicing bring you closer to your musical goals! Cheers!

Are you using round wound strings and why do you have blue tape on the nut?
@stephencoxbass
@stephencoxbass Жыл бұрын
Yes, these are the round wounds. The blue is a strip of sponge to mute the strings lightly near the nut. It helps for playing songs like “classical thump” by preventing open strings from ringing out loudly. I believe I was practicing that song regularly around the same time I recorded this video. Thanks for watching!
