Just back from north Vietnam. Loved it. Really conservative and felt really safe and relaxed, people just living their lives. I ran into/avoided a few of these situations but only in the full tourist areas in Hanoi but didn’t worry me because it was very very minimal compared to other Asian countries. Just don’t be a dumb tourist and it’s a fantastic place to visit with great people and beautiful countryside.

Travis is the bomb. My first time in HCMC i got the shoe scam two minutes after leaving my hotel. I kept saying khong khong but he wouldn't let go of my foot. He then said i owed him $70. I said no and started walking off. He said he was going to get the police. I said get the police I'm not paying you. He just gave up and walked away.

The government should ban these types of scams. Many provinces have already taken action, but some seem indifferent. They simply need to appoint market managers to deal with individuals or organizations attempting to scam others.

Uber is more expensive during rush hours because being stuck in traffic uses more fuel.

Another common scam in hanoi, girl on scooter approaches, offers to show you the tourist sites for cheap, then arranges to show you some more sites the next day, meet up, she shows you the sites then expects you to pay millions of vnd for the 2nd day when the first day was $10us ......

@@TravisTravelsVN yeah, I just assumed it would be more than the $10us for the first half day but not that much more.....stupid me......I got a dodgy taxi from Hanoi airport , they asked me a lot of questions , am I single etc, took my mobile and mucked around with it, always wonder if the 2 were linked and the girl knew where I was....who knows really but it was all my own fault really....

Please don't forget restaurant scams. We just visited Vietnam and they were charging us like $10 for a bowl of pho. We couldn't believe it especially when were educated that 25,000 dong was about 1 US Dollar. The cost of the pho stated 25,000 dong and yet they charged us $10 usd! We tried bringing this up to them and they said that they meant 25,000 x 10 uhmmm wtf lol

Very helpful, Travis, thank you!! Can you please advise on how to prep the mobile phone for Vietnam coming from the US? There is free wifi at the airport you can connect to call a grab. I don't recommend getting a sim card from the airport. Once in town you can go to a viettel shop to get a sim card. A more convenient option I recommend is to download airalo e-sim before your trip. You can set it up and have data already when you arrive. airalo.pxf.io/travis 10% discount code: TRAVISTRAVELS

When we visited Vietnam years ago, we spent a few days at a beach resort in Phan Tiet (quite expensive). The manager kept our passports. At the check out, she said we consumed water from the mini bar in our room, which we did not. As we denied it, she threatened to keep our passports! So we had to pay 10 US$ for 2 small bottles we did not even touch. I believe some workers must have drunk them, I saw throughout our stay workers entering the bungalows when dark, we also lost some of our belongings. We also got scammed while in Saigon, too long a story to tell. When I mentioned this on another channel, someone (Vietnamese) said that I was a liar and just wanted to spread negative views of Vietnam. I am going to Danang in February 2025, I am now older and wiser, I hope.
@TravisTravelsVN18 күн бұрын
Wow, maybe in an area like Phan Tiet they don't see so many foreigners so maybe think it's easy to charge extra money.
