I love how you boys talk about liking how your voices sounded together and learning how to harmonize because definitely throughout the years you've done an outstanding job at it. Speaking with 1D’s people WHILE you guys were still dealing with high school sounds crazy as hell. I’m glad you guys decided to tour with them. Also, it’s crazy that while you guys spent 2012 doing your thing, 1D IS ON TOUR OPENING FOR BIG TIME RUSH. If anybody here went to both BTR x 1D and 1D x 5SOS tours you are literally immortal. 2012 = the year I discovered a band called 5 Seconds of Summer and never looked back. So much happened that year in their lives that I didn't know about, so damn interesting to hear all these stories. Speaking of stories, the way I discoverered them at the very end of 2012 is the most random thing: I was on KZbin and their cover of Teenage Dirtbag under the christmas tree was in my recommended (I was obsessed with the song at the time). Watched the video, liked it. Then watched all of the covers and Gotta Get Out acoustic version on this channel but also the NOVA one. Became an instant fan. Out Of My Limit made me a stan. Eternally thankful for the guys' intuition that guided them to make the right decisions. Especially Calum and Ashton, who made a life-changing decision by choosing music and their mates over Uni and football.

I was just talking to my friend who is ten years older than me and trying to explain how one direction and 5sos kinda came up together but now that I think more about it it’s almost a shame that they got so overshadowed by them in the mainstream. Like 1d went on to be massive and then have this tragic downfall and breakup meanwhile 5sos is going strong 13 years later but they’re STILL kind of under the radar and only have occasional songs (usually collabs) that hit the mainstream. I just love these guys so much 😭

I can even remember the email I got in January 2013 saying that 5sos was going on tour with One Direction and thinking, "Huh, that's a weird match up but what an opportunity" and just, wow; it's been great getting to grow up with you all.
