The secret Bonvoy cards are basically Amex and Chase's ways of offering each other's cards. The modern art Bonvoy is basically downgrading the Brilliant to a Boundless tier card and the Ritz Carlton card is upgrading the Boundless to a Brilliant tier (plus a few extras). I see this as mostly a win/win for the consumer.

The Chase Ritz-Carlton card does not charge for authorized users. Each authorized user receives their own Priority Pass membership with unlimited guests. The authorized user is not required to travel with the primary account holder to access the Priority Pass lounges.

I wonder if I should rush to product change to the freedom card thinking that it might not be an option in the future. I currently have the Amazon card that doesn’t do me much good other than online shopping on foreign sites but I won’t have any card with 0% foreign transaction fee after the change and don’t feel like getting any new card at the moment

I would say keep the Amazon card, apply for a sapphire, reap the rewards and bonuses for a year that would easily cover the annual fee. Then downgrade that sapphire to the freedom.

Rarely, and I mean rarely, do I receive offers because it is a Sapphire card. I wouldn't waste the time and loss doing a product change. Keep a Preferred.

Can you upgrade to the Ritz card if you're over 5/24?

To my understanding, if you’re doing a product upgrade (e.g. within the Marriott product family or United product family), then it would not count against the 5/24. If you’re not asking for an increased credit line, it should only be a “soft pull” on your credit. Product downgrades work the same. Hope that helps.

@@jollama: Agreed 100%! What I was saying is IF you were doing a simple product upgrade without needing a bump in your credit limit, then that would only require a “soft pull” (as I understand it). The Ritz card is a Visa Infinite product, which requires a minimum credit limit of $10K USD. So, if you’re upgrading your Chase Marriott Boundless card (which is Visa Signature) and you only have a credit limit of $6,600 USD, then you can reallocate other Chase card credit limits to ensure you hit the minimum $10K Visa Infinite requirement. If this isn’t applicable to you, then you’ll need to ask for the credit limit increase, which would (as you accurately point out) require a “hard pull”.

Agree, bad time to have had Ritz card and super bummer about that overpowered flight deal. But if you’re on the AmEx side or don’t have anything with PP Restaurants access it’s a good card. Also useful if you travel with friends or colleagues. Also can AU fam or friends and double dip on the restaurants credit. A tip for the travel credit is to take a screenshot of an upgrade after purchasing airfare and checking out. They’ll usually cover the upgrade or up to credit.

The Bonvoy Brilliant conveys platinum status. The Ritz Carlton card only conveys gold status which has few benefits.
