Michael, All great technical and creative insights into the nuances of shooting, especially from a wingers perspective. I wonder if it were possible to have a view from the players eyes so that what WE see is what the player is actually seeing. As if the video WAS the eyes looking at the ball and surroundings, including defenders/ teammates etc.? A good variation could be that the coned ‘box’ is for the player to ‘receive’ a pass and has to control the ball one touch INTO the box, second touch OUT of the box, third touch strike. This would help the player to move from ANY angle as if they were moving away from a defender to create space to receive (outside the box) then into the space created then striking. Just a thought 👍

Michael, I view striking at goal as the end result of any attack. Every attack should have a strike as an end result. I call these strikes the FULL STOP….the END of a sentence. When I’ve run sessions on striking, I’ve asked the players how they speak to each other. At first they look puzzled, then they begin to realise why. I tell them that they begin a sentence with ANY letter or word, then keep adding words etc until they reach the end, that they don’t just stop until the end otherwise it would have been a waste of time speaking in the first place. After that they get it and their effectiveness in finishing off an attack increases.
