I did Xifaxan for two weeks and it did nothing. Two months later, I did round of Xifaxan and metronidazole which completely destroyed my gut. I have looked into antimicrobials, but the problem is you can talk to 10 people and get 10 different answers on what to take, how much to take and how long to take it. It’s so frustrating to try to get help with IMO these days as most doctors don’t even have a clue what it is. they all go by the same playbook, oh, you have Sibo take this antibiotic. Oh the antibiotics didn’t work, take more antibiotics. Oh it completely destroyed your gut, try another round of antibiotics. The state of gastroenterology in this country is ridiculous! they just want your money and could care less if they actually help you.

I feel your pain, im in the same spot rn. If this can help, there is , probably, 3 main reasons for sibo. Stomach acidity, pancreatic enzyme or gut motility. I ordered from FoodMarble the Air2. Its not a magical unit but I think it can greatly help finding the root cause because it allow you to breath test multiple time a day. You can then self medicate yourself a bit better knowing if something helped you or not. Also know that im not a doctor but just someone like you that suffer from sibo. I have been following a herbal protocol for 2 weeks now with origan oil, berberine and allicillin combine with betaine/pepsin. I did see a real improvement being able to even eat at fast food without any side effect(still dont recommanded tho).

Hello everyone, I woke up one morning 2 years ago with diarrhea and abdominal pain as a result of my malnutrition. There was almost no doctor I didn't visit, and every doctor and hospital I went to caused incredible harm to me. Finally, after 4 months, I found a very good doctor in my country and my sibo treatment is going well. Let me tell you about the treatment, I hope it will be useful to you. At first, you need to follow a low FODMAP diet that is limited in fiber and sugar for about 2 weeks. At the end of this 2 or 3-week diet, you eat a high-FODMAP diet rich in fiber and sugar for 1 day, then you increase the amount of fiber a little and use antibiotics for whatever your complaint is. This lasts for 2 weeks, and then you use herbal antibiotics for 3-4 months for whatever your complaint is. Please ask if you have any questions.

My functional medicine practitioner immediately put me on a regimen of probably close to a dozen supplements for various issues, including ones after I tested positive for SIBO. I kept it up for a short time but eventually became overwhelmed with having to take so many pills a day and I gave up. I also have spina bifida which I’m pretty sure affects motility and I don’t think that was ever factored into a treatment plan.

My mistake is the trying too many things at once. Got Dr. Davis's book the Super Gut and have been trying his yogurt which MAY be too much for me. I have a long frustrating history and have had SAD advice and treatment form western trained gastroenterologists. But at my OWN insistentce and perseverance got a SIBO breath test that confirmed my Hydrogen based SIBO. Just finished my 14 days of Rifaxin and feel like I am slowly sliding backwards again! On no! But I am determined to figure this out. Will definitely be following you.

I don’t mind doing the diet however, I’m not doing the test I live in British Columbia Canada on Vancouver Island. To get a doctor here to get an appointment I have to stand in line for hours just to get an appointment. Then I have to come back for that appointment Either that day or the next day and I have to drive 10 km to get to that appointment and stand in line and wait and I’m not doing that. Over the last 20 years I’ve been diagnosed with IBS and I’ve also had stomach ulcers that I got rid of with antibiotics 20 years ago. I’m eating properly now. Cut out every kind of junk food there is quit drinking now I’m working on the diet. If you can help me with the diet I am underway. I have not been taking an enzyme digestive so I will start that. I’ve been taking probiotics. I had a rash all over my body is why I started this.

I dealt with similar scenario I've had it undiagnosed for 4 years now finally getting approved for rifaximin. Well my doctor only gave me one sibo test triosmart test couldn't find it said negative but one test isn't enough I've seen several doctors it's very hard to get heard . Or even get testing my doctor is going to give me the meds regardless I'm sure it will help . My only food advise is yes antimicrobials work I've taken alot but can't fully cure it . Beribine does help. I've only been eating super low fat meat . Double cooked Potatoes eggs collards arugula watercress radishes some brown rice preferably fermented or sprouted. The radishes help out alot there's something in them that I think is catastrophic to bad bacteria. Eating radish sprouts too . Few others alfalfa too. Plantains or plantain chips help pass stools. Only fruit is grapefruits wich help tremendously with digestion lime or lemon juice. Olives romaine that's about all I eat and its been saving me but I feel now that I'm super slowly healing. As long as I don't eat anything else. Rice is some what not tolerable but soaking it for days helps lots of enzymes bromelain enzymes try magnesium chloride too liquid just Lil bit . Colloidal meso silver. I have mms chlorine too but I'm nervous to take it supposed to be one drop per gallon water quick regimen. Tocosh fermented potato flour works too . I've noticed only some bananas are slight tolerable plantains not extremely ripe or try burro bananas but they do aggregate but not extreme. Can't think of anything else Try those temporarily

Hi, I just recently got diagnosed and my doctor recommended more natural treatments first before going to antibiotics. I’m really worried I wouldn’t even be able to afford antibiotic treatment if that’s what I truly need to get better. My insurance is horrible state insurance and I know that it’s super hard to get it covered even with good insurance. @@paulinawojtaszek5634 it's a reasonable thing to try, it's just that the studies show a higher success rate with both antibiotics. Hope to hear your opinion on that. Thanks a lot

Hi M M, I know this is common advice for SIBO patients, but I don't subscribe to it. I'm a firm believer in only changing things one at a time, and also keeping the boat steady during something as potentially disruptive as SIBO treatment. Eating foods off your current plan may flare you. So I usually suggest my clients follow whatever diet they've worked out that controls their symptoms best, and then consider reintroducing previously problematic foods once they've completed their treatment to see if their tolerance has changed. Others may have a different suggestion, but this is what makes sense to me.

This will really depend on what you are specifically taking. You should generally follow the advice given to you by your doctor, and clear any changes with them. That said, prokinetics are often prescribed to use at bedtime after dinner, so they can enhance the natural cleaning waves of the small intestine during your longest fast of the day (overnight). Sometimes, if they are causing problems with that dosing schedule, your doctor may recommend taking in the morning, or between meals. Thanks for watching!

I’m not seeing much on line about people using this Atrantil to rid SIBO so I don’t know what to think. It would be a 4 week 3x per day with meals. I don’t want to waste another month if this isn’t going to help a great deal. My SIBO is pretty high up is what I’ve been told. What other other supplements that drs use to rid SIBO. The elemental diet isn’t an option for me. The MD did say there were other antibiotics that we could use but not sure about those.

@@bjlong4452 Some people claim that Atrantil can cure methane SIBO. In my observation, I've found it often helps people's bloating, but that it doesn't cure methane SIBO. If you're having trouble getting insurance coverage, you can see if your doctor is willing to call the Rx to Mark's Marine Pharmacy in canada, and you can order the Rx for about $500 for canadian (US?) produced rifaximin, or about $150 for Indian produced Rifaximin, cash. The Indian product takes 4-5 weeks to arrive to the US. Herbal protocols are also often effective, you can check out Dr. Siebecker's website for more specific info: siboinfo.com. I hope that helps!

I follow an extremely low carb diet, 20 mg max per meal. Only three meals spaced well apart, no snacks. But I must stay on the full course of Atrantil. Twice I stayed on it a couple of months, quit, and SIBO gradually came back. Each time the Atrantil gave me significant relief in about a week. It's costing about $100 a month, but I have no bloating or pain. Supposedly helps constipation, but I've gotten no relief in that department. Still have to take Milk of Magnesia. The other thing I do is support my digestion with long sessions of relaxation, slow belly breathing, often with a long guided meditation. Must be at least ten minutes for me to start feeling movement in my intestines.

Just by addressing your diet and stress you can already reverse the effects significantly, if not get rid of of the problem entirely. I did a few days of lowering total carbs to about 50-60gr/day, removing junk-food, ultra-processed stuff, and BINGO - from misery (including severe palpitations after each meal and unwanted weight loss) to almost back to normal again. Yes, you don't need to be very aggressive with SIBO, even small changes make a huge difference.

@@moxusgaming6404 because you still have an overgrowth of bacteria in your stomach. the only reason the carnivore diet appears to ‘cure’ symptoms is because you’re not eating anything that can ferment in the gut or which the body generally finds difficult to digest. the carnivore diet manages symptoms but the individual is not addressing the root cause of their SIBO solely by following it, and that will never be the case regardless of how much people are pushing said diet. if your SIBO was truly under control then you would be able to eat more than a carnivore diet without problem (not including inherently unhealthy foods such as UPF items) except if you have a specific health condition such as an intolerance or allergy.

@ConfluenceNutrition Жыл бұрын
Hi MH, there's not definitive test, but a simple back of the napkin option is to drink a 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 8 oz water first thing in the morning. If you burp within 15 minutes or so, this suggests you have ample stomach acid. If you don't burp, this suggests you may be low.

Hi MH, absolutely not required! However, if you've had foods that you're sensitive to, I suggest trialing them one at a time to see if your tolerance has changed, and then create a diet that works for you to keep your gut happy. yes, you can use probiotics during sibo testing. Calprotectin is an inflammation marker. If it's out of range it suggests there may be inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and this warrants a conversation with a doctor. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Hi there, the elemental diet isn't intended for 8 weeks of use, so I hope you'll be adding some solid foods back into your diet! You can use ginger as a prokinetic, but it needs to be a rather high dose. The Motil Pro product suggests 3 caps at night, I think. Using regular ginger probably wouldn't be enough to give a therapeutic effect. I do work with clients in the EU, so if you're needing help and support, I'd love to meet and see if my program would be a good fit for you. You can book a free call with me here: confluencenutrition.com/contact. I hope to connect soon!

Hi Amanda, Thank you for your response. I have been only on the semi elemental diet without any foods to give my gut a teal break. Of course I want to add solid foods rather sooner than later. In advance do you have any recommendations on how to start? Today I drank some ginger tea which completely floored me🙈 I have bought a zucchini and a acorn squash to start asding some pureed vegetables. I also saw a tip that said to start with a puréed vegetable concoction of 16 vegetables at once to start with. Would love your recommendation 🤗

I’m guilty of potentially all of these. I didn’t retest after treatment of 2 rounds of antimicrobials that may or may not have been proven to be effective followed by a round of rifaxamin(hydrogen dominant, can’t remember and don’t know if methane was significant enough). But judging based on my symptoms not improving outside of the supplement regimen I’m on, I still have SIBO or it recurred due to not taking a pro kinetic or not taking it at the right time, because my dr did suggest what I believe to be one(herbal supplement) but I think it was before the rifaxamin. Can you speak to the effective herbs or supplements that serve as a prokinetic? I believe mine was artichoke and ginger double dosed once a day(as opposed to manufacture recommendation of single dose twice a day).
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 5 ай бұрын
Hi there, yes, most supplement prokinetics are ginger and artichoke leaf based. There are several options, and some will work better than others for different people, it's hard to predict which one will be right. One thing that is different in some of them, however, is the addition of 5-HTP. For some clients, I've found this increases their bowel movements, and can even lead to diarrhea. If one doesn't work out, you can try a different one until you find that feels like it helps.

hi! thanks for the video! One question, for sibo/ibd, you also need to take a prokinetic? like, my bowels move fast enough i feel like... lol. i will take the rifaximin for 14 days 2 times a day ( in my country the box is 28 pills) , but im trying to study what i can do to maximaze before beginning. I read you need to eat "bad" foods during the rifaximin so you can kill the sibo, and after you need a diet like low food maps and the prokinetic, but my doctor gave me neither. is there a natural one u can take that is easy to find and doesnt need a prescription ?... thanks for you time.
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gustavo! The prokinetic helps support the motility of the small intestine, and doesn't always impact the overall motility of your gut. In other words, if you have diarrhea, it's not supposed to make it worse! The diet advice you've heard isn't necessarily true. I like to encourage people to eat the diet that minimizes their symptoms, and worry about reintroducing foods once their SIBO is to the point where they're happy with it. There is a natural prokinetic, though it's not as effective as the medications. It's called MotilPro by Pure Encapsulations. You can also a product called Iberogast. Thanks for watching! And if you're ready for support answering questions like these, this is exactly what I help clients with inside The Calm Digestion Method online program I host, you can learn more here: confluencenutrition.com/calm-digestion-method

Once you get SIBO, you will always have it. That's what they DON'T tell you. You will never get rid of it. One thing that helped me is significantly restricting my intake. I do IF and eat one meal every 72 hours. I cut out all sugars, fat, and dairy. So I typically eat one cup of plain rice with one grilled chicken tender. The less you eat, the less your body can sh** out.

You're right that meal spacing can make a difference. Some people may be able to succeed in eliminating SIBO, others may need ongonig management over a lifetime. I don't know that I would recommend fasting for 72 hours all the time, as the nutrition you're taking is miminal, but if that works for you, that's great! Best of luck.

I was diagnosed with methane SIBO after a breath test. I have IBS-C. My functional medicine nutritionist said I need to be on FODMAP diet for 3-4 months! Is that typically the length of time recommended? That seems extreme and I’ve already been on an elimination diet for 2 months. Motility got way better when I started elim diet so to stop eating pears/apples and things that help for 3-4 months seems like a step backwards. Your thoughts?
