As a person who works in many different events I think this video is putting young people off from an amazing career. Yes, it is hard, yes, it is long hours and a lot of standing/walking, it is a lot of planning, you do need to be a people's person, but there is also procrastination, eating best chefs cooked meals for free, and a lot of opportunities. You can work 9-5 as an event planner and leave everything for the person who will run the event, you can work as an events manager, catering manager, anything, whatever suits you most. Do not let these minor minuses put you off.

Enrikuuute this really helped me thanks ! As iam going to get a bachelors of international events management next year at a university this helped a lot ! Not a lot people are there that really tell you what’s it like working in that industry

agreed with the part about the 9-5. It is not considered a 9-5 job but if you organize everything properly and manage your time efficiently this can be a 9-5. You have to be able to walk away from work as well in any job.

One thing people need to know is we all procrastinate at times But I think its just a faze and a bad habit you can beat. Don't let it put you off if you're creative and drawn towards event management

Having worked on various event projects, including a music festival for 50K attendees and private luxury brand receptions, I'd say working in events can be very exciting and those moments on the day X are fulfilling, but unless you have a huge stamina and are extremely stress - resistant, you are most likely to burnout quickly on the job, like I did. So explore and volunteer and see for yourself. Events is a rather easy industry to get into through volunteering.

As with every other job out there, there is pros & cons. Events planning is not for everyone. what this lady says here are more applicable for those working in events management agency/firm. Long hours, handling clients etc. There are many alternatives apart from working in an event agency firm which gives you a lot more work life balance as an events person. Open your mind & take this with a pinch of salt.

Hi I hope this isn't too late. But I am getting my bachelor degree and I went to a school that had hospitality and tourism degree. Most of it was on hotel and a little on events but even with that learning hotel is important since majority of events happen at a hotel or your client(bride)and her/his family stay in the hotel. I also decide to do a minor in Art and design. With hospitality and tourism major any minor goes good with it like communication, business or art. I hope that made sense and help you.

i work in event planning at a non-profit. its an 8:30-4:30pm job and its super chill, especially after the annual meeting. This job isnt that hard and the best part is that you are not alone. At a good firm, you will have someone to guide and teach you, so its not like the work is a burden - in fact in can be fun because you will get to travel and meet new people. dont let this girl sway you from what you want to do. my best advice would be to get a job, try it, if you dont like it, then switch, but take the qualities and parts of the job that you enjoy and pursue that. the cool thing about event planning is that you have a multitude of assignments so each day is different.

dont let this video define your life dreams. There are so many different areas of events that you can take part in, dont start again just because of this one video. What interested you about events and event planning in the first place?

@@BreNichols94 Nooooo! don't give up. I am an event planner and I am probably guilty of a number of these (maybe 4 out of 5) but I love what I do and have been successful. I have simply mastered my own process. these are not reasons to not consider event planning. If you want to do this as a hobby or career, decide what type of event planner you'd like to do and go for it. I started with no money, bartering my skills for supplies and now I can't believe what I have going. I will admit I could do better with my procrastination but it hasn't stopped me because I enjoy it to much.
