Having success in the reef keeping hobby and taking care of our aquariums is not easy, but how do we know we are on the right track?In this episode of RealReefingTV I reveal 5 signs of success with a saltwater reef tank. These are not all 100% guaranteed signs but they are great indicators that your tank is on the right track. They can also tell you that something is off if you don't see them.

Our tank is reasonably young, but according to those five things to observe, our tank seems to be doing ok. Thank you so much.

After I have my corals they will cover the algae up the algea is not growing but living my hair algea is still helping me catch waste in the water column

The hair algea is beautiful green in colour and act as a net for random flowing waste

Why would you want algae? It blocks your view, can damage equipment, and can suffocate corals in rare cases, just get a filter sock
@duncanlam776
@duncanlam776 5 жыл бұрын
My algea is scared of my high flow and won’t to over grow, they magically disappear afterwards the job is done and 2 hang on filters make them clean I do no water change and got full coral extension the only water change is evaporation and new freshwater

Nitrite is irrelevant in a saltwater system. Remember, saltwater contains chlorides which, essentially, prevent nitrite toxicity. Unless, of course, the nitrite level is just off the chart!

I give high five to my green hair algae, it saved my tank a couple of times, because my green star polyp poop and the poop builds up all covering the polyps, I blowed it off with a pipe and all off the poop came off and the water was instantly ammonia stinky and poop flowing around, I didn’t do anything, I let the algae do the job, I went out and came back 2 hours later and I smell fresh clean saltwater no stinky smell and the algae’ s hair was moving around and caught all the flowing poop when the poop rammed into them, the next day the poop was gone my bacteria and my pods and my worms and my tiny organism finish them up and the algae soon ate the rest I had copper in my tank and my bubble algae did the job. It sucked up most of the copper and metal in the water and also cleaned some trash up!!!!!! I have a big hang on back filter and a small one I overloaded the big up with joy my algae seemed to start dying off due to clean cool water and I was feeding it some ammonia turtle feeding. My algae is my MAJOR FILTRATION

I have sponges popping up in my sump, but my pulsing xiena's are not pulsing anymore and dont really look happy.... I think it is my crap lights so soon as i get to change them out, hopefully they will go bk to normal. My parameters r good, only 1's that i have been trying to get down for some time is my nitrate which is at 25ppm using the salifert test kits and my phosphate is at 0.1.... I have bought a new skimmer which is a bubble mag c5.5 and a bio pell reactor, since putting the new skimmer on i do think the nitrate is on its way down as well as the phosphate. I have also set up a refugium with cheato in but like i said its only just been added with a small amount of cheato in. So hopefully i will see these levels come down sometime soon. Good video bro as well, am a new subcriber so i will be looking out for all ur video's. 👊🏾
@RealReefingTV
@RealReefingTV 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for following along. Sounds like you made some serious upgrades to your system. Make sure you only start with 1/4 the amount of biopellets needed for your tank and work up from there as you test your parameters. Here's to 2019!
@jonomufc7
@jonomufc7 5 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the reply mate and thats what i have done regarding the bio pell, hopefully i will see a change in my levels sometime soon.... Al be getting my new lights soon as well, so will see what the xiena'a think when there on lol... Happy New year 2 u 2 pal from the other side of the pond in England 👊🏾👍🏾

Nice video. Coralline algae can be a pain when it covers overflows or pumps :)
@RealReefingTV
@RealReefingTV 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks and yes I agree. However it can be cleaned off. I know with the 300 the overflow outer pannels can be removed. I prefer to let it build up and hide the black, looks more natural to me but that's all preference.

I would fill it half way with tap water and use a razor blade to scrape the Coraline off. Just be careful like shaving, always straight down never side to side

The water helps soften and let's you easily clean your blade.

If the Coraline was dry it's dead. Just scrape it off the glass carefully. Your population will restart with frags you buy or live rock should you go that route😊
