Sadly most workplaces are TOXIC AF... it has affected my health and wellbeing in such a drastic way. Even on days off I feel the legacy of that. I feel burnt out and depressed. When even thinking about going I have a feeling of dread.

I've been in such environment for over 2 year n not even realized in early years of my career...They were making me so worthless in every increament process Even though I was working thrice as I should have been working with almost no salary. it was so bad that I used have a minor heart attack just by hearing my phone ring thinking it's a work call....

I’m feeling like this currently, I say this has really tapped into my emotions made me feel depressed stressed and because of that my body feels like shit now. I work in a nursing home and it’s so terrible. I dread everyday coming it’s like something is telling me to leave get out real quick. I come to work everyday I do the best I can for the time being there. And even on my days off I still feel the agony and stress of my job. It’s very toxic poor management they don’t care about their employees they don’t even appreciate us. They don’t show us no type of appreciation for our work. And some work their asses off. I just stopped I just stop going that extra mile. Because I know management will never appreciate nothing. And when you turn in a resignation letter omg they try so hard to talk you into staying. But a person can only take but so much . Being in toxic workplaces really affects you. It messes with you physically and mentally/emotionally. Any job I ever had I’ve always been the type to learn and take notes. And once I get into it, boom here comes the real action. I just be wanting to come to work do what I can and go.

I’m getting to a point where I think it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you’re around positive people. You can be doing something you love and people can make it not fun and a drag.

1) Are you constantly having bad days at work ? 2) High turnover. ( Employees constantly leaving ). 3) Too much Gossip about management. 4) Employees are constantly complaining about their work issues. 5) Your company does not care about you. 6) You don't feel valued , neither your colleagues do. 7) Multiple people make you feel small.

All of my coworkers gossip and bring each other down. Even the managers. They all act like 15 year olds. I keep to myself and observe the way they act. I don’t like it. I try and talk and get a long with them and then they try and talk to me about another worker behind their back. It’s so toxic and I get paid little to nothing and have no hours. absolutely hate it. I’m trying to get out of there. But finding a job is so difficult these days

I'm going threw the same thing. I'm 34 and the ring leader is 55 years old and the other ones are 58, 39 and 22. Currently dealing with a toxic work environment. One of the ladies is very insecure and jealous and always makes snide comments that clients love me, I have been working here the longest and mimics and copies my phone mannerism. Anytime anyone new starts she clings to them like a leech and manipulates them and tries to turn them against me, Gossips about me and gives me backhanded compliments. She quit 3 times than begged for her job back. She should be fired but the owner is desperate for employees. Recently she went to the officer manager and made up a lie and tried to get me in trouble and it did not work because nobody believed her. I am sick and tried of it.

I worked at a place where there was open bullying. When I was new, I got targeted by it. It felt terrible. But then I saw this happen to others, and I went "Whew, thank goodness it's not me; it's them." And sadly, I stayed. What I realize now, years later, is that it was a toxic work environment. The bullying happened in full view of the management and they did NOTHING. This fueled the bullies and slowly eroded the confidence of the bullied. When you see overt rudeness, anger over nothing, corrosive gossip, start looking for another job immediately.

I just quit a very toxic work environment. Every morning when entering the workplace I needed to remind myself to be aware of what my colleagues had in store for me to loose control or would react in a way that they could blame me. I also did not feel at ease anymore with the executive manager because of the way he would try to remind me that he is my employer whenever I would have a different approach or would speak up about an issue and maybe would speak to him as an equal.

#5 got to me. I have never felt so small in my life. I keep getting picked on even about my looks. It’s making me see myself in a very negative way. I can’t take it anymore. I don’t know what to do, I need the job but I hate it. I spend most of the day there every single day. No one speaks to me unless it’s for work. I hate it. I look forward to leave just so I can have the time to cry. I’m overworked and tired and so unhappy.

I quit at the end of December. Just couldn't stand working with my dipshit line manager. I don't know if he did it on purpose, but he treated me like garbage - even the "friendly" banter always poked fun at all of my insecurities like it's such a huge laugh. My only regret is bottling it up for three years.

My boss got very short with me over something that the victim roll player should have done. It’s been a big roller coaster/cyclone in this case, for well over a yr. not sure if I want to go back, after being off for 5 days.

I literally have the productivity of two people and I still get thrown under the bus. I get talked down to by my coworkers, people are always quitting, I get paid crumbs compared to what I am worth, and they hired another person with the same title as me even though I have performed exceptionally well (I keep a productivity tracker as back up and my productivity is 100% over the last person in my position). I have worked so hard here that my health has declined, I have stomach aches, and my chest hurts a lot now. Sometimes I just want to end it all but I’m too much of a coward to do so. Ever since I started this job things have gotten worse for me in every way.

Hi Lu, Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Gosh it sucks when you've done so much and you STILL get thrown under the bus and aren't appreciated. When you say you sometimes you just want to end it all - what do you mean. You are important. I know what it's like when things are tough... when your health is declining and life is really hard. I had a really bad tumour and life was really hard for me. The worst thing I've ever gone through. The important thing is you hang on to hope. Hope for a better job and hope for a better future, Please continue watching my videos to give you the hope that you can get a great job and know that your health will improve as soon as you get out of a toxic work environment. Please also find someone to speak to about how you're feeling. Whether it's a counsellor, a friend or someone you trust to you help you get through this. YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS. Joy Randolph thanks for that. I took two sick days and Monday was my first day back. When I come in the first thing I get is an email blasting me to everyone on how people are complaining about how I am not processing what they need fast enough. Yesterday I spent over five hours defending myself over a handful of items that needed to be processed. It made me so mad because I brought down almost 100 items in the past week alone. I spent five hours making myself as visible as possible. Turns out the items they were complaining about had all been processed but they don’t pay attention to the weekly report I send every Friday showing the items processed. After I hit them with my work, everyone got quiet. No more emails. The guy who tried to blast me had a weird smile on his face when I was leaving to go home for the day. He looked directly at me and smiled the most evil smile I have ever seen. I’m ready to get out of here, but I fee like I’m stuck. I’m just tired of always having to defend myself. My plan now is to make my work as visible as I possibly can. I want to make sure everyone knows I am doing my work so there will be no doubts. I just don’t understand if the last person was slower than me and they got promoted, why am I being piled on like this? Why are they trying to constantly insensate that I am not doing my work even though I am? Why are my teammates constantly putting roadblocks in front of me because they know a piece of my job depends on them doing what they need to do as well? It’s all overwhelming, and I honestly don’t know how long I can take it before I abruptly quit.

Simple waking up and hating that place everyday for me. I hated my last job, but was stuck in a contract agreement. Threatened to sue and even told a coworker I'm kicking your ass "on sight" the moment I leave here. Yep, it's time to go when it gets that bad! I dealt with high turnover in a small business (47 resignations in less than 2 years), tons of gossiping and people cheating on their spouses with each other, late paychecks, lies and lack of transparency (HR lied about pay promising 90K for new contractual employees), don't value or respect staff (ruled by a 51% majority owner), never had a CEO but interim, and never trusted them!!

Thank you for this! I work for a black-owned business. My coworkers and I are struggling with many disturbing things that have happened in our workplace. I feel really defeated because the main issue we have as a company have is with the president of the company that happens to be HR and that also happens to be the brother of the ceo. My co-workers and I have experienced homophobic comments from the ceo and the president, sexual harassment from the president/HR manager, sexism and inappropriate comments made from the president. I have literally gone to the ceo who is a black woman and have express my concerns with her brother. She looked at me and said “I’m in a tight situation because that’s my brother” I’m only 8 months into this job and what I thought would be a long lasting career. I’m certainly looking to love forward, but it’s much easier said than done. I’m afraid I don’t have the fight in me anymore to stand up to either one of them again. Not sure what recommendations you have for family owned toxic work environments.
@thejoyrandolphshow
@thejoyrandolphshow 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Quintessa, Thanks so much for watching this video and sharing your story. Wow.... I'm almost speechless. It sounds like the organisation you're in is as toxic as they come - with homophobic behaviour, sexism and sexual harassment. It's very difficult to change this if it's a family owned business. People tend to support their family. Reminds me of Harvey Weinstein and his brother. His brother reportedly did not like Harvey or his behaviour but couldn't stop him nor fire him. It wasn't until it hit front page news and police got involved that he felt they could let Harvey go. In other words... it's unlikely things will change unless something dramatic happens. You need to make a choice on how long you want to say... how long will it be beneficial for you to stay, in terms of experience and income? That ought to be the guide for when you should leave. If you're staying, it could be helpful to find resources that help you better cope in such an environment. If you can find inner peace and not be affected by your external environment, it'd be the greatest life lesson. Not an easy one, but you'd certainly do well to have gone through that. Totally up to you whether you want to grow in that way

I didn't want to believe I was working in a toxic environment. Recently I have been dipping into depression. As I was scrolling through KZbin on stress in the work place, I saw several videos on sign of a toxic workplace. I thought that I wasn't going to relate to one maybe two things, I thought sure what the heck.? After watching this video I was NOT surprised how I felt and what I have been experiencing. I DO believe I have been in denial for years. It has costed me my relationships, mental health and even physical health. I have illness caused or as a result of prolonged stress. I have been living in survival mode knowing in my gut that I need to leave, I ask myself, who will pay the bills and you need health insurance.? I just can't do this anymore! Thank you for the video and for helping in assisting my determination.

I was hoping at this stage of the pandemic that in office interviews would begin again but that seems doubtful now. When I have a job interview, I like to see the office atmosphere as I walk through with the HR Director or supervisor who is going to interview me and make a judgment based on what I see. It's not always 100% accurate, but you can get a vibe when it really is toxic and make a decision from there about taking or turning down a position. They may not realize it but I am interviewing them as much as they are interviewing me, possibly more.

Toxic workplaces are a real thing. Worst is if you are in HR trying to change things, calling them out and being back stabbed. If the baseline of higher ups is toxicity, you will not be able to change anything. You'll have to move on for the sake of your sanity and reputation. If they mad mouth others (for no factual reason), they will mad mouth you. Don't be a scapegoat to them!

QUESTION: How do you explain you quitted a job because of how toxic the department you worked in was, and it hindered your professional growth? Do you even mention the place was toxic ? or how do you explain the reason for leaving the job? I have a job interview coming up and I don't want my answer to affect this opportunity? any help will be greatly appreciated.

There is a new expectation from most young people in what to expect from an employer for sure. I do believe a lot of that is driven from a better understanding of what impacts one's overall health--mental and physical. While I can appreciate some of the over-the-top expectations, I also can see that employers and managers really, REALLY need to take a look at their old fashioned practices (good lord the bullying, micromanaging, focus on minutia) has got to change. I've seen people railroaded, demoralized, and devalued by employers who continue to ignore what their managers are doing. It's very much a master/slave mentality.

I had a new manager who is his first three weeks wanted to significantly change my job description. Problem though is I was a top performer before he arrived. He also choose to give more responsibility to a Junior who was clearly under performing. I'm now totally demotivated

I had the same experience. A great leader moved on, and a micromanager got moved into the empty spot. All the top performers seemed to be a threat to the new manager's ego or beyond his comprehension, so he slowed them all down to a halt, broke up productive, thriving professional relationships, and now the productivity of the primary underperformer looks productive in contrast. I asked his boss three times now to leave his team and even the department, and now I'm looking at going back to school to finish my degree just to escape.

Bruuhhhhhh! The high turnover thing feels like its my curse! Then comes the toxic behavior. Ive never recovered from the emotional abuse i suffered from a previous manager so now during an interview i try to ask “what is the culture like here?” During an interview or the first few weeks on the job. Its always “we dont know why this department never stays staffed.” SMH. I recently had to leave a department but now i want to leave the job bc its just pathetic (its a long story). They just dont value me there at ALL and ive been underpaid for so long

I currently deal with a manager who is too laxed and his manager is overbearing and micromanaging. Whenever they have a heated argument, it’s like two parents fighting each other. At times my manager wants to me to address certain situations to his manager which I told him I no longer feel comfortable when it should come to the source. I tried addressing this to their EO but it felt like fell on deaf ears. I come to work all stressed and avoid going to bed much later (lack of sleep). I constant work in fear if I’m going to be scrutinized, there is no honor in taking initiative, my boss’ manager has trust issues, and I don’t know who else to go. I am currently looking for another job. Looking at my revised resume gave me hope as I now have ample experience. I do hope to hear back soon.

I’d argue a few things. 1. If you can’t decide if your accent is American or British, you can’t be taken seriously. 2. I lost my right hand man because she broke a policy and lost my store money. That’s her fault. Not the company’s fault. 3. Gossip happens. Literally everywhere. Normally, those who start the gossip or claim they are unhappy cause the issues themselves. When I look at cameras and it takes you two days to put away about 30 boxes is product while you’re scheduled for 16 hours, that’s an issue. You don’t get to say how miserable the job is when you don’t do you job. And steal. 4. A toxic situation is one where you try to communicate issues and they aren’t addressed. Plain and simple. Of course proper compensation is a must. But above all, you can’t solve problems if there is no communication.
@thejoyrandolphshow

Hi Michael, Thanks for watching. I'll respond to your points below: 1. My accent isn't something I "decided". English was not my first language. I was born in Lesotho (a country in Africa) and did not start speaking English until I was 5 when my mother married an Englishman. I was then taught British English by my stepfather and simultaneously sent to an American International School and was taught American English by American teachers in Ghana and Cambodia. I learned my first words, sentences and pronunciation of English from both cultures at the same time. It's not a conscious switch. After years at American international schools (and attempting to learn English quickly so I could keep up with native speakers), I forgot my native language and lost my African accent and developed a much richer American accent. However, when I moved to England when I was 9, British friends and teachers were very quick to correct my pronunciation and obviously spelling :) I then married an American. I hope this explains the mix. The mix can confuse people and I understand why. Most people have one accent, and there's a reason for that. My family, friends and subscribers that understand find it amusing. 2. Sorry to hear your right-hand man stole store money. Yes, that is her fault and dismissal in this circumstance is appropriate, though I imagine it is sad. 3. Yes, gossip happens in many workplaces. The issue with gossip is not "if gossip is present" but the severity of gossip across the entire workplace. For example, if a company has not handled an issue well (for example redundancy) and professional employees who don't have a history of complaining or gossiping appropriately feel this wasn't handled well, conversations will spread in pockets of groups across the entire organisation. If you look at a company like Glassdoor, companies that handle certain issues poorly upset many employees rather than one or two employees that are otherwise problematic in an organisation. 4. And yes, a toxic situation includes one where despite an individual communicating issues, they aren't addressed. Have a wonderful day

It's easier to get people to leave then have anyone change. Employees know that so they run new ones out. Sometimes when someone leaves they can then apply for their job, they win! This is why the welfare system is so BIG! Someone will have to support the kids if you can't hold a job.

People actively ask me to work in secret with them, so that my manager doesn't micromanage. It is a difficult position for me, as I definitely think he is the primary obstacle in getting anything done, but it means he doesn't think I'm doing anything so he doubles down on his micromanagement.

I'm about to quit. My workplace hit 4 out of 5 on this list. And I have seizures , stress and high blood pressure. I'm work with food inside a popular shopping center. Not all but there are way too many customers that are trash and treat you like your a slave. A woman yelled at me today because she failed to read the closed sign and proceeded to harassing me because she felt like I has an attitude. The lights were off. Two of my co workers called out. The other 2 had left me with a huge mess and way too much to restock. And she was like the 30th person to tray and combat me about be closed. So, yeah I had an attitude. Besides the fact that I put in for vacation time which was supposed to start tomorrow. But, someone in the office failed to approve it. My shift manager change my days and scheduled me for this week. I have plans and appointments the conflict with this schedule. My coworkers didn't show up the last weekend I was scheduled which was mother's day and I couldn't take a break or lunch. My shift leader showed favoritism towards the co worker who didn't show. I got into it with a other coworker because she snapped on me and my other coworker. Oh and they gave me a bad review and I .05 cent raise. I've worked for this company off and on for 6 years. I do basically everything my shift manager does. When O go to HR they are just as overwhelmed and exhausted so they don't care. And the turnover for this company is problem in the top 5. The only good thing is discounts and a 401k.

I recently left a company because multiple workers tested positive for COVID and nothing was done about it. I ended up getting COVID as well because of them. But I had wanted to leave long before for many reasons. There was no work-life balance PERIOD, pay sucked, benefits were garbage, no boundaries, they were extremely racist and homophobic, they refused a girl an internal role despite her having all the qualifications and I overheard them say they didn’t want her because she was black, I was becoming severely depressed, I was having panic attacks almost every day, there was no growth opportunity, and even when I turned in my 2 weeks, they tried to convince me to stay with them by offering me things they couldn’t deliver, such as funding my education. They pulled me into the office multiple times in one day to try to get me to stay. I said “FUCK THAT”.

A toxic workplace I have experienced: 1. Sexual harassment from day 1, talking about private parts and who they want to sleep with i in the department. Someone openly told me that they wanted to have a kid with me in front of everyone. I also got touched by one after a work dinner and my boss basically told me it was my fault. 2. A lot of gossiping and bullying. During the first presentation I attended, one person started texting in a group message making fun of the presentation. And then a different person asked me to hang out and told me how stupid everyone (including me ) was and how bad the other guy (who sent the text) was with presentations. 3. People will lie to and ignore each other’s requests. I had to argue with people to get anything done because we weren’t rewarded for teamwork and helping one another (only the leader of the project gets rewarded). Also I have caught two people sneaking into the boss’s office and pretended like they didn’t know anything when he asked if anyone went in. 4. Boss encouraged overworking. He kept saying working 80-100hrs a week was normal. Most people ignored that and took weekends off but that was stressful. This wasn’t too terrible for a academic lab (I have heard worse) and I stayed 3 years.

I work on a healthcare team as the only black person with 97% white woman, I don't want to sound sexist but all they do is gossip about each other and find petty reasons to write people up annomously. Many people have left. We have so many new people and some are already trying to leave after 3 months. Recently I got annomously wrote up for not doing my work and passing it on to others a bold lie. I went to HR and then talked with my bosses boss and she was way more helpful and understanding of diversity issues they will doing interpersonal and diversity training soon if this does not work I have to leave.

My situation is unique.I'M working with the wrong people and shitty, incompetent managers and supervisors.They should be paying me manager pay with all the slave labor they have me doing.If you thought Lucy working in the candy factory was something! I RIP open bags of beer cans into a can machine to fill up a big trailer truck.Those other laborers work slick, slack, and sloppy, making a big mess of loose cans and plastic bags,which I usually end up cleaning up..I can't even go on vacation or take a day or two off without returning to a Big mess.They're younger and young enough to be my son.There's a forklift driver who secretly and underhandedly supervises the manager and supervisor where I end up doing even more heavy labor.That's not even close to the story I have to tell.II'll stop there- for the sake of time, also.
