Been saying that for too long and wishing everyone would just say no and stop taking crap from people who make millions. You are completely correct. Switching careers did set me back about 30% of my highest income. I studied on my own to get into software engineering for 2 years after work and on the weekends with all my free time. Got an entry level job last year paying that 30% less. Not even 1 year later I received a new job with incredible benefits, an amazing set of coworkers, and a 50% pay raise. Just put in the work, and you can get there. I couldn't be happier, and I hope you all achieve the same.

My day job is an IT gig that is 100% telework so I never have to be at an office and I have a boss who is very hands-off (not a micro manager). It really is a good job and I enjoy what I do. My financial focus is watching expenses and investing smartly when funds allow so I can retire in my late 50s then relocate overseas where the purchasing power of my fixed income will go farther.

Brian, this is excellent advice. As a top earning salesperson in a multi-million dollar company, I was a victim of corporate restructuring where the major accounts became house accounts due to automatic replenishment systems on computer. My income was cut in half so I had to do something. I took my first $10,000 and invested in my own importing and distribution business because that was my area of expertise for almost 20 years. I kept my day job and worked out of my home as I slowly grew my business out of the cash flow. After a few years of careful well planned growth, I finally left my day job as I continued to grow my client base. Eventually I moved into a warehouse space and now have a multi-million dollars business with 4 full-time employees! It can be done in America.

Thanks Brian. I have been blessed by my 40 year career as a CPA. I started in public practice with a local firm way back in the day. When my daughter was born I was hired by a mid sized nonprofit, working part time, around school hours and activities. This balance was key to my job satisfaction. In addition, I love the nature of my work because it's a blend of crunching numbers which I love and helping/training others which I love too. I have been paid a fair, generous wage although certainly not what I would have made if I stayed in public accounting. After 30 years with the same organization, I will be retiring in October. I am grateful for my years of joy and my heart goes out to those who feel stuck in their jobs. Looking forward to using my gifts in volunteer work. Excited to turn the page!

Many of us like our work, but the corporate America environment is intolerable due to DEI and other woke policies. That basically only leaves starting a business, or in my case just coasting on the off road to retirement.

Great video! Some parts hit home for me. I was in an industry I was tired of. Moved back home to go back to school and worked crappy jobs while in school. Graduated last year in accounting. I work at a smaller firm. Next goal is to pass the CPA. It would be nice to open my own little shop, but I'm happy where I'm at right now. I'm in early forties, so I did a career change a lityle later in life, but it has made all the difference. Best of luck to everyone!

I started my own business about 20 years ago, but quit that 5 years ago to get a job, because I was tired of the business. Now I think I'm getting a little on the older side to get hired easily and have gotten fed up with either too low of pay or abusive bosses. It's hard getting away from underemployment. I'm seriously considering starting another business. What's funny is I'm thinking about a cat related business and Brian used a cat business as an example..lol. I figured if I'm going to start a business, it might as well be something I like, as long as it makes decent money.

Worked both private, public and even went on my own for two years. Found a way out 🙂after they rubber roomed me in my last job and haven't worked since. Going on 20 years of freedom. Brian... Brian I've been watching you for years. You're definitely the most honest speaking person on KZbin in my opinion. I never met you. But I would love to have a few beers and talk with you on a fun basis. This video Hit me harder than anything I've seen for you. I'm making construction Craftsman 25 years deep. I make more money on a side job on the weekends and I do all week working for the company that I work for the last 18 years. I keep telling myself if I keep working I'll get paid more. But I have slowly realized I'm being taken advantage of. And I'm just tired of it. It's hard to make the big leap when you got a wife and four kids and a mortgage. My wife and I have been together for over 20 years. So all of our kids are ours alone and they are not welfare babies. What's what you said that much structure I have. I've got to stop waiting around. Thank you for this video honestly. And thanks for not having CGI in the background. Always full hearted and straight to the point. I hope to buy you a beer someday.

That’s me. Will never work for someone else again and I burned both my science college degree diplomas. The only regret was waiting and not doing it the very moment my supervisors opened their mouths 😂 My advice is to focus on creating redundancy in a short burst of time because you don’t know what will work when you first start. If you can get to a critical mass of creating thousands of products, thousands of emails, thousands of whatever you do, you will have so much work that you will be forced to quit your day job. It took me just 4 months to quit my day job and right away my income doubled. Now six years into it my income is 5x what it was at my day job. Went from making 25k to 160k a year, but the freedom to wake up whenever you want and not have to drive like a maniac and enjoy your driving is priceless.

I was an employee and ran my own consulting firm and your advice was 100% spot on. I would only suggest one caveat for folks to consider. Always do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life. I found that as long as I was doing what I loved, somehow the universe knew what I was doing was the right thing. And THAT was when the prosperity followed. It just seemed to come to me, I didn't have to kill myself chasing a dollar like a fool.
