I really appreciate that Chris consistently performs the motion he's trying to explain again and again. So many KZbin videos get lost in 15 minutes of talking in between brief physical demonstrations. Keep doing what you're doing

I’m a 74 year old and have been shooting in the high 80s because my pitching (and chipping) completely deserted me a few years ago. I have tried fixes promoted by a number of online pros. This past weekend I sat down once again looking for some help. I watched your video twice. It made sense to me so I decided to put your tips into practice on Monday during a tournament. Not the best place to start but it’s what I could do. During the round I mishit only one pitch. Not every shot was close but I was on the green. It was like a light switch had been turned on. I need to keep working with the video but I sure have a great starting point. THANK YOU

Learning how to effectively use the bounce was the "AHA" moment in my game. If we can get more people to understand that turf interaction is the one of the most important fundamentals in the shortgame, handicaps would be dropping everywhere!! Great video!

This part of the game has held me back for years - and I mean years. I have watched this video 3 times over the last week or so and then tried it on the course this weekend; 42 stableford points later and I take the money (I play off 9). Its almost as if my whole course management has changed as I now feel so much more comfortable and confident facing short range pitch shots.

Well Chris, I have a hard time with distance and strength needed to get to lets say a 6 foot circle around the flag. I'm not committed or afraid of hitting way to strong so as I'm coming down I hesitate and end up chunking it. I use a 60 degree wedge to chip and pitch. Great video! Your explanations are so easy to follow! I follow many others, you are the easiest to understand! thanks from Quebec, Canada!

Honestly, it is the best part of my game. I have a "wedge system" for 30-90 yard shots (i.e. LW backswing to my thigh is 30 yds, to my waste is 35, etc.). For pitches shorter than that distance, I like the "Runyon method" (aka "the rule of 12"). There are times when I need a flop shot, for example, but 90%+ of all pitch shots for me are covered by those 2 methods and they work great.
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Love it! Always good to have a system, you never feel ‘lost’ on the course then as you always have an answer

@@ChrisRyanGolf I see so many guys I play with that simply take a lob wedge any time they are within 70 yards for pitching and chipping. Ironic that I had a shot today that was about a 6:1 ratio of fringe to pin and I chipped with a 6-iron (12-6=6 iron in "Runyon Rule of 12" method) and actually chipped it in (no kidding - it was about 100 feet)! My 2 buddies were in about the same spot as I was and both tried to hit a high and soft lob wedge and both made bogey. I try to tell them, but they just won't listen.

Hi Chris. Great video as always. For me personally I got the biggest issue with contact, therefore distance is way off. I’m really interested in an in depth short pitch video, wich maybe talks about the swing plane during short pitches and chips. There is almost no content on KZbin regarding this issue. It’d be great if you could give us some Tipps on that!

Controlling distance is a real challenge, particularly from 20-40 yards. When cutting off the finish, ball-striking suffers. Finishing with the arms left of the target leads me to think the shot will go too far. Is the best option simply to slow the rotation of the pivot? Thanks Chris!

With, for example, a driver, I know that at impact there is already quite a bit of the extension you talk about. I am unclear whether the same is true on a pitch shot such as in this video, or whether the extension on a pitch shot doesn’t begin till after impact. Thanks to anyone who answers this for me.

Update 1 day later: I practiced today and, long story short, the extension seems necessarily to be coordinated with the clearing of the lower body, so that determined my timing. (I would have deleted my above question, but that function frequently doesn’t work on KZbin)

Just back from a (mainly) golfing trip to Spain and found it really hard to get my shorter shots anywhere near the pin due to the very fluffy grass on fairways, I don't think they EVER scarify the grass, so there's a huge amount of thatch and it's very easy to have the club just go under the ball. Worst trait when playing in the UK is shanking these shorter shots - creeps in without warning and drives me mad!

Hi Chris, my confidence lacks around the green. These tips I’ll apply for sure. I just don’t know which wedge to ever use. Any tips for picking the right wedge? I have a 58, 54, 50, and 46 as my wedge choices. Thanks!
@ChrisRyanGolf

Hey Nick, if you struggle with these shots I’d go for the 54 in most situations, long term you could vary this, but best to get some confidence back with one wedge first then look to work through the others

My ONE goal with the pitch is simply to put it on the green. This 40 yard shot to a 30-40 yard target (most greens are 30-40 yards deep) is unfortunately one of the most demanding shots in golf. By just getting the ball on the green consistently I have cut 6 strokes off my handicap.
