One thing to remember is “always” eat perishable foods first in a true emergency. If it’s in your refrigerator or freezer it can defrost and spoil quickly, so plan to cook and eat those foods first. It might make for some odd meals but it’s better than throwing out spoiled food. Beat the possibility of losing power by using that food first. Even if you have a generator, you "will" run out of fuel at some point. Even a solar chargeable battery system (which is not a true generator) can only be recharged on a sunny day. On to storage…..Another set of items to consider storing are what I call "shelf stable dry foods". Specific examples include items like coffee beans, tea bags, rice, beans, and pasta. I'm sure folks can think of others. These can be stored for years with little to no loss of nutrition if kept dry and away from insects. One easy way to store them is in glass canning jars. Remove them from the original packaging, place the item in jars, and top each jar with an oxygen absorber packet. Seal the jar with a metal lid and ring (or a Tattler brand or similar lid) and it's good to go. No water-bath canning knowledge or experience necessary. Hope that helps someone.

I like using the dehydrator on fruits when they are in season. I just need to learn better ways to store them long term. Thanks for the video!

Dehydrated fruit is delicious! We are also looking at some new options for long-term storage, and I will keep you updated as we come up with more solutions. For now store bought freeze dried fruit is what we rely on. I’ll do some videos on long-term food storage in the future. Thanks for your comment.

Nutrient Survival has great powdered eggs. I have a number ten can of egg, milk, and butter for staples. Great recommendation to try recipes with freeze dried. I am going to have to try them.

I haven’t tried Nutrient Survival, I’ll have to check them out. We have been using Nutristore a lot for our dairy & meat.

Last time I checked Nutrient cost was over $1 per egg, too high for me. Legumes & canned meats is where I will get my protein.

@Utah_Mike thank you for letting me know unit cost. I never calculated. I have it for long term storage and use fresh eggs for daily use.

You also need to take into account family members that have food allergies or special diet. Read the labels, some food products are made in factories with tree nuts and peanuts. Don't forget your pet food.
