These are phenomenal tips, brother. I've actually been thinking of many of these exact things to help new pilots focus on the skills that really matter.

Thanks for watching bro! Ever since I saw Steele's video about how people obsess over gear and not the actual skills, I've been thinking about tips like this. I just feel like the actual flying part is too often neglected, and I think that's bad for the hobby!

For myself, throttle expo was Godsend! I do a lot of cinematic flying, 3" whoops, 3.5" quads, long range 5" and 4" racing quads among others. When I started the 'bouncing' I was getting especially the more the quad was level, braking, going through gaps and such, when there's more thrust to altitude or hovering than directional momentum I'd see it the most. I know I'm in a small segment of people who really lean on throttle expo but it works for me. Whenever I'm building a quad I'll typically set the hover to 35 and the throttle expo to .70 which is low on the hover and high on the expo but if someone is having trouble with throttle control, especially proximity flying, give it a shot. I do think this is still applicable for freestyle quads but to achieve snappy maneuvers when flying say Spang you'll want much less expo. Hope this really helps someone who's struggling with these issues

Great tip! I suppose it’s all about what style/purpose you’re flying with. It’s kind of tricky to find a perfect one size fits all setting for me as I like to have a bit of flow but also incorporate some high throttle tricks into my flights.

I have been working on a 6-8’ ceiling tree thicket and trying not to hit puddles after the rain. Very motivating to not crash. Camera angle made a huge difference for me.

I have noticed through this hobby (6 years in) that racers are better freestyle flyers and quicker learners when it comes to tricks etc. They HAVE to learn throttle control to not balloon around gates etc. Throttle is key. I was getting much better as an old guy a couple of years back as I was flying nearly daily, but dropped out due the $ I was dumping. Trying to spread too thin with too many models and sizes, buying parts, frames and keeping them in the air. That being said I know I would improve with digital, but that's not my reality atm.

Totally agree! I think part of it too might be the naturally RC talented probably trend more towards racing at first. Might have to make a part 2 for this, I think adding racing practice irl/sim is super helpful!

Interesting material, I still hear how important the throttle is, still working on it, but each session brings some effects, after each worse comes a better one :D

Using expo after seeing this makes me want to deactivate the scaled throttle limit now. More punch + less scary mid stick. Thanks!

Great stuff, man! I hadn't thought of throttle expo, but I've added a llittle to the quad I'm taking out in a few minutes. Leaf canopies are a great way to orient yourself in the flying space, as long as you either stay below the canopy, or far away enough to manuever clear of the upper part of the tree. I'd just add flying in a sim - yeah, yeah, but flying a set of gates on a level patch of ground can help sort out the thrust direction at different roll orientations, and it's convenient for adding some sort of extra stick time.

I appreciate the love! I think one reason is the small community, and I also have not been doing it long. I just want to help the FPV community grow, and hopefully entertain people along the way. The numbers will come as long as I can hit those two goals 🙂

Interesting, could be just the ground interfering with the signal? I've had similar experiences too. When you climb back up at the same distance away does it improve?
@Inertia888
@Inertia888 Жыл бұрын
If you're interested in learning about what could possibly be the factor, try learning about what the 'Fresnel Effect' is. It has to do with what ProbabilityFPV is referring to. Quick note on the effect, if the Rx or the TX are high, off the ground, it should make a better signal. So, at the same distance from the pilot, if the copter is high in the air, the signal should come back. And if the copter is close to the ground, but the pilot (radio & goggles) are high up off the ground, the signal should come back.

When I was a kid I used to be a sprinter in the sport of track and field. I used to wear ankle weights prior to every race. It made my feet feel lighter and faster after I removed them before each race. That said, I learned really good throttle control when I learned how to fly a 2s brushless whoop in my house... comfortably. In my case it was the first Mobula 7 and it wasn't easy. I could only practice when my Wife wasn't home. If I accidentally broke anything, I just gave her the "3Ds". No, it's not what you're thinking. We've been together over 30 years now. In my case the "3Ds" means deny, deny, deny! Just makes me even more thankful for my pets and grandkids. Of course, I never blamed anyone. Just left the possibilities for my wife to figure out. (Heh heh heh)

Throttle expo was hard to dial in, i scaled my throttle down to 85percent that gave me a lot of resolution

@propabilityfpv with beta flip scaling the throttle it makes it amazing I still have full stick, and to be honest 85 is still enough power to do everything and not draw all me amps

@propabilityfpv
@propabilityfpv Жыл бұрын
I hope they help! I currently use 25 but I've been considering moving to 30 as I get faster and more technical. 25 seems to be a pretty good mix of "trickability" and speed. Anything above like 35 scares me, that would be too fast for most of my flight haha.
@creativcluster
@creativcluster Жыл бұрын
@@propabilityfpv Completely agree! I do find that diving is a issue when first starting to climb as when I’ve been at around 25 in order for me to see the top building I have tilt up more then that causes the drone to drift away from the building so i basically have to fly up without really seeing the top! Thanks for reply I appreciate you!
