@@CY1RG actually there isn’t actually such a thing as a Singaporean accent. (If you are wondering where I am getting this information I am a Singaporean) Since there are multiple races and religions co-existing together, you can find people with very different accents so we sometimes have trouble understanding each other. Most people actually have second languages which in Singapore is known as “Mother Tongue”. For most people it is compulsory to take mother tongue unless the school you go to does not offer the language. We don’t have a specific accent but we do have a very define language (Singlish). I am talking about us using phrases like : “Lah, walau eh, can what, oiiiiii, one “ so on and so fourth. Examples on how we use them are: *”Lah”* (In this situation *”Can what”* can also be used) Person 1: You sure we can walk here ah?(yes it is in fact common for us to cut our sentences short) Person 2: Can *lah*, who say cannot? *”Walau (eh)”* (Aka : Wah lan/ Wah piang) Person 1: Lai lah we better faster go if not the shop will close liow.(yes we have a lot of unusual words) *goes to the place and it’s closed* Person 2: *walau eh*! I thought you said it’s open, you bodoh sia. *”Oiiiii”* (this has a lot so imma be simple) Person 1:*cuts into the queue* Person 2: *OIIIIIII* YOU CHIBAI WHAT YOU DOING I STAND HEAR VERY LONG ALREADY YOU KNOW! *”One”* (This is Super simple just add it to the back of sentences) Person 1: (insert name) walked into the glass door for dunno how many times today Person 2: I told you, s/he stupid *one* Lol that’s all for me and I doubt you are even reading this far XD byee

Some comments here talking about how locals are failing to innovate and comparing to other countries, have to see the bigger picture. Singapore as a population of 5.6 million while other countries have 10 times or more in human resources. There is bound to be more innovators from a bigger pool of people. We have many locals who have startups we can be proud of as well. Startups and invest here because we have great infrastructure, stable government, and human resources to tap into and I hope we continue to attract them here. Regardless of county, race, and religion, innovations of today are a benefit to all of the human race, it should be seen as a win for all. We have to give every opportunity to have our younger minds be educated and an opportunity for them to lead better lives. The potential minds to a cure for deadly diseases or reach other stars can be found anywhere in the world.

Alvin Tan Well said! i always get irritated by those ppl who always complain about Foreigners in sg. Staying competitive is the key to innovation and growth.
@matthewpeloso21728 ай бұрын
Singapore presents itself as innovative, fairly competitive, multicultural, with a strong rule of law. None of this is true. If you aren't part of the local SG Inc clan you can expect to be cheated by them. Singapore is good at copying and their regulators put up roadblocks around fair competition. If you don't have a Chinese civil servant on your payroll you aren't allowed to operare a business in Singapore. The courts are dictated by the PAP and don't operate independently. It's a corrupt and racist country.

Killing the mosquitos sounds like a bad idea. Some mosquitos carry disease, but mosquitos also have important functions in the ecosystem: they're "food for many species, help filter detritus for plant life to thrive, pollinate flowers, and even affect the herding paths of caribou in the tundra." The effect of killing off an inconvenient species for humans, to the overall ecosystem, is hard to predict.

I'd love to! The problem, as always, is money. Give me the money and access to infrastructure to do so and I absolutely would. But that's not how society works. The people in power, i.e. those who have money, _need_ people to stay in urban centres to do the menial tasks and manual labour that will help them increase their profit margin. It's a vicious cycle that won't end until the current system does.
