Would love to see a video on the internal platform bed setup. I like the hanging from the headrest idea

This was our old interior setup. We are currently rebuilding the camper setup and it'll be a little different. But if you want to see this one, you can check out some of my very first videos in which I show the interior bed 👍

Good quality hammocks provide an interesting solution in many cases. One end can be hung from a suitable fixture of the vehicle, or you can go a bit further in the bush. Small size when packed is also an advantage.
@offtrackfamily2 жыл бұрын
True, it's also a nice option depending where you are 👍

Hammocks are much like winching, there's never a tree when you need one .

I love the rooftop tent on my Defender, BUT I'm really happy I can also sleep inside the car if the weather gets horrible. It's a house on wheels, just like you said...🙃

Definitely a challenging topic to cover, thank you so much for the breakdown. We are considering a trailer with our 110, but totally understand the tradeoffs and compromise that will bring. Love the content and looking forward to seeing your build and adventures!

We love to follow your videos, thanks for that. We are in a kind of the same situation as you. Being a familily of 4 we are already travelling in our Defender 110 by towing a small offroadtrailer with a big foldable tent, kitchen equipment, etc .... This setup is great for staying at least 2 nights or more on one site. But we now want the additional possibility to stay just for a quick outdoor night in more remote places, as you and your family already are doing. So, some weeks ago my wife and I decided to safe some money for installing a popup roof on the Defender, and complete the interior setup. We feel with you and are looking forward for the next videos ... 😀

Thanks! Happy it inspires you and your family :) which popup roof are you going for?
@carstena67532 жыл бұрын
@@offtrackfamily We´re still not quite sure. I´m still researching if a self-building popup roof (e.g. overlandies or oryx solutions) makes sense for us. Otherwise there are some good quality conversions available, but for reasonable higher price. Did you already decide which conversion you are going for?

Though mentioned at the end I think a small cargo trailer is quite a good option for families. I If it's small it keeps the vehicle off-road capabilities and majorly improves payload, particularly for our Disco 1. It'll be the path we take when our 3 daughters get older, they'll have their own RTT on the trailer, for now the double swag is good for when it's just me and the 3 kids (they are 2yo twins and 5 yo), when it's all five we take a second tent!
@offtrackfamily2 жыл бұрын
Do you travel around Europe and wild camp with the cargo trailer?
@blaketrooper2 жыл бұрын
@@offtrackfamily We don't actually, because the3 kids are still small enough that we haven't found the need. Has we're in Portugal we travel through Europe, but it's also easy to hop to North Africa. We are planning a trip to Senegal next year, and to Norway in 2024!

Great info. I had tried all options except rooftop conversion, slide on camper, it also depends on how often you stop. Kids grow up now, I got rid of rooftop tent and camper trailer, keep it simple. However, I still weight between rooftop conversion and slide on camper for future overlanding, it will be on new build, migh be Inoes Grenadier.

Would be nice to see ineos grenadier camper conversion :)

Great vid and info. I love the way your family overland. It must be much more challenging in Europe with limited free camp spots.

Thanks! A 4x4 trailer or huge camper truck would be the solutions to have more space but would be a huge hassle to explore around here and stop for food shopping or a nice coffee

I think a small trailer with a fold out tent, kitchen, water tanks and storage is a great option for a family, similar to the Patriot Campers line. You can keep your primary vehicle relatively modification free for regular use and then keep the trailer packed and ready to go for trips.
@offtrackfamily2 жыл бұрын
It's a good option especially a good 4x4 trailer but not convenient for our weekends or longer travel. Overlanding around Europe is never 100% offroad and having a trailer is a hassle to stop in most places (food shopping, coffee, small town, bivouac where we aren't really allowed, etc)

I love the rooftop tent, but for me it's simple to use ground tent, because i'm not young anymore, it's hard to go upstair every time !

Family of 5 here. Don't like trailers. Lots of narrow roads in EU (woods, mountains). So far have been ground-tenting, but it takes too much time. Considering combining RTT+car, 2 RTT's (expensive) or a big RTT ( very few available in EU). Might research that RTT bunkbed..never heard of it. Oh, and 1 option is RTT + small pop-up tent.
@offtrackfamily2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message! Don't like trailers either because not convenient around where we are but it gets even more complicated to sleep when a family of 5 and above. It's all about compromising and still having good times outdoors :)

Roof Top Tent, there is no better solution if you want to sleep inside. We also have, plus roof rack, aluminum box and solar. The right gas pressure dampers then the roof goes up properly without getting a red head. Left and right a bench seat that become a double bed for the kids. The cheap solution, the kids come to grandma and grandpa and the parents travel alone!
@offtrackfamily2 жыл бұрын
Looking forward to have our popup roof and test is out as a family all sleeping inside like you. Cheap solution for us 1x year ;) very different when no kids, clearly not a hassle when we are all together but so easy when they aren't with us 🙃

Two iKamper minis would fit on the roof and allow seperate sleeping and privacy. The drawback of course is when they fold out they are outside the vehicle footprint.
@offtrackfamily2 жыл бұрын
We personally don't like those foldable tents but yes two small rtt can be a good option for others :)
