I bought my 97 from my grandma after my grandpa passed. He bought it brand new and was used as a farm truck all its life yet it was impeccably maintained and clean clean. Single cab 5.7 vortec motor w 4l80e. My dually cummins was down so I pulled a skidsteer load with the c2500 @14,000 lbs and it was a terrible experience. The next day overdrive was lost. Right now my grandpa's truck is completely torn apart building a fully forged 383 out of the factory motor and 1200hp rated 4l80e. I plan to keep this truck forever. An obs 3/4 ton chevy has always been a bucket list truck for me. Glad to keep taking care of this truck in my grandpa's memory

I've got a 99 C3500 C/C with the multiport small block and a NV-4500 and pull bulldozers regularly. They're very underrated motors in the age of diesel trucks, but much cheaper to operate. The only thing I'd offer as advice is that if you put a single twist in your straps they won't vibrate in the wind and they'll last longer... Other than that keep er oil and water topped off and she'll handle that for years and years.

Ah, another vid that I randomly stumbled across, lol. GM built a LOT of 3/4 tons, and a fair amount of 1 tons with 350s in the 80s and 90s. It's a bit underpowered for bigger truck, but it'll get the job done, obviously. Especially if you don't do it every day, and don't want to dump gas through a 454 lol. Btw, higher gas octane rating doesn't mean more power. It's just less prone to pre-ignition. (Knock).
@graystone5.33 жыл бұрын
Yea, that’s what I meant by it ran better, it doesn’t knock with the higher octane gas in.

If you didn’t have a dually you had a 350 unless it was a special order. It was the result of every company vehicle we bought being special ordered. We got all 1 ton, crew cab, 4x4 manuals and all of them were ordered so they would be 454s.

These loads are usually 11,000-13,000 pounds. Take your time and remember it’s not a 2024 duramax 3500 and I do okay. I can pull these loads 70 mph steady down the road once I SLOWLY get up to that speed, and you don’t even think about putting it in overdrive. Moral of the story know what your driving and don’t act like it’s a decked out 2024 and you’ll do okay.

I just got a nv4500 from a 1999 and I believe we would take different size clutches. I believe this is do to you having an external slave. I think mine which I need a new one before I switch tranies. Anyway I was comparing a sm465 clutch to the used one on the nv4500. They were both 11" but there was a wider surface on the clutch from the sm465. The sm465 has only five springs and my internal slave style has a bunch of springs. I don't have a recommendation for you but I believe LUK may be stock. Also I hear some of the older nv4500 have a two piece flywheel.
