The Folding Knife protag sounds similar to Kennit from the Liveship Traders Trilogy in the way that he just follows his own goals for his own benefits but by accident ends up achieving great and seemingly selfless things. I really found that dynamic amusing 😂

Yes, exactly! Kennit has a more explosive temper, but both are definitely out to achieve their goals at whatever cost!

I've been watching season two of Heaven's Official Blessing and loving it. I've been thinking about picking up the novel, so to hear you say the pay-off is worth it is SO exciting!!

Yes!! It’s so hard to recommend to a wide audience, because I think you really have to love fanfiction tropes, but if it hits right? SO GOOD. you’ll have to tell me IMMEDIATELY if you decide to give it a try. 😍

Wow some really tough choices here. I didn’t like Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors. I definitely see why Project Hail Mary stayed in the ring for so long. I loved it!

Thought I would give this a try with all my 5 star books 90 total had a few surprises like watership down didn’t make it past the first round to be fair it was up against a heavy contender the wise man’s fear 4th in the end. The biggest surprise was that the 5th season made it to third and I didn’t think it was even in my top ten overall till now.

1) Homeland (just can’t seem to dethrone it after 20 years and many re-reads. 2) Name of the wind (probably as close as a can get to dethrone homeland. 3) The 5th season ( though the 3rd person was hard to get into in the start. The story lines and how they all tie together in the end as well as the Bi rep just hold a place in my heart) 4) The wise man’s fear (yes a sequel made my top ten lol) 5) Timeless (another sequel lol) 6) The hobbit ( used to be my favourite slowly moving down the list) 7)Magician (the plot twist caught me off guard in the best way possible) 8)The demon Awakens ( yes this is the third RA Salvatore in my top ten lol and kinda like the wheel of time lol) 9) The wheel of time(kinda like the lord of the rings lol) 10) Daughter of the Empire( sure my top ten will change in the future)

You are so much braver than I am. I just did a quick scan of my 5 star reads of 2023 & no. Just no. I'd he putting up multiple books by Gene Wolfe v. Pierce Brown v. James Clavell v. Christopher Ruocchio. How? 33 - 5 star books out of 113. I had a good reading year.
