Apparently I've been chewing my voice all my life. I would strike on good resonance every so often, but had no idea that one could control larynx placement and how it might affect the resonance of the voice. I've been singing some of my songs since this video and holy COW what a difference!!! You've changed things forever.

Recently, I started practicing vocal exercises again and it felt like there was a weird vibration happening on the right side of the top of my throat. It was kind of a scratchy feeling. I noticed it while I was doing “Bah” or “Goog” scales one day and had no idea why that was happening. However, I think I figured it out and managed to fix it by being more aware of my tongue placement and making sure my tongue was quite literally front and center. What I noticed was that the back of my tongue was pushing to the right side of my mouth and into my teeth. So, I had to consciously correct this while practicing. Whenever I corrected it, it felt weird and out of place, even though I was sure it was in the right place. It was just so used to doing that that it felt more correct to be in that position. To be honest I had no idea it was even doing that or for how long. Even though it felt weird, I knew it was in the right place because that weird scratchy feeling went away and I could feel and hear a difference in my voice. My voice felt more centered and like it was being evenly distributed and not just coming from the right side of my throat like it was before. It didn’t take but a couple of days of practice to see the muscle memory kicking in. Now it’s been a week and I’m to the point where I don’t have to force it anymore. I know this was a bit of a long read, but I thought I’d share this just in case anyone has had the same issue so maybe this would help them fix it. Sometimes, we do things we’re not even aware of.

I definitely think that I have a bunch a misunderstandings when it comes to singing. The only "teaching" I got was from choir, and I heard all these terms but never knew what any of them meant. That being said, now that I'm trying to learn to sing seriously or better, I'm doing a lot of research and this video definitely helped. The craziest feeling I think I got was with head placement, feeling it in the back of my neck and it slowly creep down my neck as the notes went lower. I'm gonna be using these tips as a way to help better my voice. Not just with my singing. But warmups too, putting it into practice is gonna be challenging but fun. Figuring out how proper placement works. Also thanks with helping me understand that the "mask" placement doesn't necessarily mean nasally.
@peponcio12 Жыл бұрын
Man this is excellent but I would like to hear more about the mixed front nasal placement that is needed to achieve high notes as a tenor. The most known issue is that we try to reach high notes from the chest. Could you do a video explaining how to produce natural high notes with forward singing with nasal airflow and head voice??

McCartney had trouble singing like Little Richard for a recording, and Lennon reminded him that he said he did it by singing at the top of his head. Then he was able to do it.

Hi, Ramsey! Thanx for this video, you're the first person, who gave me a very good explanation about placement. I have big problem. I was trained from my childhood as classical singer, but then I wanted to sing pop songs. And still for many many years I can't restudy from this manner. Even my speaking voice is too backward, not to mention about singing. Is it really possible restudy to correct manner completely?

Ok Matt but what about keeping resonance in hard palate? Is this good idea?
@garycalvertii9491 Жыл бұрын
All of them, in a mix, is what I think is actually correct. I could be wrong, (not a vocal coach like Matt.)

Hi can you please make a video about how to bring out your voice, i know about mixed voice, i learned how to do that i know about chest voice head voice, i know about vibrato and belting and i know how to do those too, i also been doing lots of singing exercises. But out of all those teqniques im missing one thing which is the foundation of my voice, what are some teqniques to bringing out your orginal voice, do you just have to sing and not think about it or is their a exercise or teqnique to bring out your voice that way i can sound the same each time i sing and not sound diffrent every time.

Hi Ramsey, I’m a singer currently learning English, I wonder is there any difference between singing placement vs speaking for the vowels in this video? Or singing is just “bigger”compare with speaking? Thank you
@themusketeer94582 жыл бұрын
When i get the A to go back in the mouth, like when saying O, what am i doing with my throat? Is it the soft palate? And if so, should i be doing that or should i try to keep everything sounding forward? Is that also what is called twang?😅 so many names for so many movements and now i am able to manipulate near anything in my throat and mouth, but never taken a lesson to learn what position everything should be in, and so much information in these videoes that i get a bit lost😂

Please, be aware that there are men who have a higher-pitched voice, women who have a lower-pitched voice and non-binary people who have either. Keeping that in mind, it would be better to avoid referring to "women" and "men" in this context so that no one feels excluded and put off from their desire to take singing lessons.
