One advice I like to add, is be patient during a shot until you have what you want. Don't just count to ten, but wait for that action of a person you expected, or that look that say's everything. Wait until you have that "Yes!" moment, By the way, Binge watching your video's inspired me today to give my self a go for a new documentary project. A very private project that already is giving me a lot of energy, but I also face the first dilemma's. But I already implemented some of your advice, and I am already thankful. Keep up the good work and keep up inspiring me. I might need it the coming 2 months.

This is really excellent advice! For me in covering protests or unpredictable doc scenes, I think my biggest lesson has been to be an editor in my head, intently listening and picking up keywords from what speakers or interviewee's are saying, and creating a mental shot list to then make sure I get b-roll of. I also am listening for moments I know I likely won't use(like a speaker going on a tangent or someone talking about something off theme) and then using those moments to get cutaways(reaction shots, signs, location establishing, audience CU's).

All this advice is also so very applicable to documenting our lives on camera that seems to be quite popular on KZbin nowadays (hint: that's what I'm doing). And that breakdown of the Instagram reel was fire, that script followed pretty much all the writing advice for a compelling piece of content! Thanks for sharing all the BTS shots, I know this doesn't help when you're on a mission which pays the bills. And as I'm writing this comment, I see you're also sharing your premiere timeline! Come on! ❤ I've got no question for you. But if you ever happen to be in Greece, I'd gladly shoot artsy cutways for you! Thank you for sharing all that. Much respect.

Hey Austin, I'm new to your channel. Enjoying your content. I also enjoyed your Zambian story about female healthcare. Working on a doc in Zambia and I've spent many hours and weeks with people in the villages, they're amazing people. Our focus is mainly human animal coexistence. Thanks for telling the story about the cattle. Us humans sadly never seem to learn.
@austinmeyerfilmsАй бұрын
Hi! Thanks for checking out the channel. What story are you working on around human animal coexistence? That's a theme that I focus on a lot so I'd love to hear!
@kalamoproductions6268Ай бұрын
@@austinmeyerfilms it's about human elephant conflict thats happening in Zambia and Kenya, mainly due to human encroachment and big agriculture. Following the local farmers and the conservation organizations working to mitigate the conflict and find an acceptable coexistence. We're almost half way through filming, but had to come home to do another round of fundraising. I'm also in the process of starting a non profit with the goal of telling these stories about the conservation heroes fighting for human wildlife coexistence in different countries. We're losing so much wildlife at such a rapid rate, we're hoping that an educational cut from each doc will help with educating the younger generations along with outreach in the countries like Zambia & Kenya.

I live in Hawaii....after a major tainted beef incident in a major fast food chain on the mainland killed 20 people with ecoli, laws were passed increasingly regulations on slaughterhouses resulting in most of the Hawaiian processors out of business....if course, big business profits when only massive plants which soak meat in ammonia at millions of dollars of equipment costs....most of the chicken consumed in us is grown in hoffific conditions and shipped to China for processing and shipped back to US.....I own a ranch and cannot legally slaughter any animals for market locally due to regulations.....

Incredible break down and very helpful thank you. Well done. Quesiton for you- did you have any trouble with boat vibration while filming from one? I see you using a tripod in a shot. Or have you in the past? I've had difficulty with vibration affecting my shots and not sure of a solution (other than a gimbal?)
@austinmeyerfilmsАй бұрын
Hey John! Thanks for watching. Oh yes, absolutely. The camera/tripod combo was really only used when we got into the port where the water is very very calm. For most the day, the camera and tripod were stowed away. I hardly ever shoot on boats, so unfortunately I don't have many recommendations about how to approach shooting from them!
