I'm not even done watching the video and already I'm looking at Cynthia's website. A great subject. It isn't always about money. Makes me think about Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, where the base needs are met (financially secure for retirement), but the higher level needs need to be planned for to achieve happiness. I liked the discussion of neuroplasticity.

Hi - I'm in the U.K. A synopsis: I started work at 16 years of age in 1976 Semi-retired January 2023 and I will be 63 within 3 months Definitively, don't underestimate creating a meaningful retirement. In my entire career all you think is I will retire at 65 usually or whatever age you decide BUT there's zero in the workplace as guidance about retiring and you suddenly wake-up and realise gosh I am now retiring - retiring to something and not from something! This whole topic is as important as rightly being concerned about the financial side of retiring It's a massive topic retirement - most in the Corporate world say - oh days on the golf course hurrah! - that's the biggest understatement to be made about retiring - you really have to think about this chapter of your life after work. Feeling self-worth and a purpose. Everyone in working life is replaceable and soon after you leave the working world you are soon forgotten as that world moves on! Peter U.K.

Very good point about volunteering find something that you like doing. In my case my wife suggested I join the towns men's club. They have monthly meeting to organize a few fundraisers each year. I did not like the idea of going to meetings to talk about fundraisers. So I though about what I like to do. I have 3 boys who are all married and I miss going fishing, swimming, hiking, visiting the zoo etc. So I joined the big brother little brother program. It has been great. The past 5 years I have had such fun spending a day every 2 weeks (average) with my little brother.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I want to retire pretty early to force myself out of the 70 hour weeks. The thing I worry about the most is finding that purpose, but I think forcing myself to change, try new things, and maybe be uncomfortable about trying new things will be important. I’ve thought about volunteering, part-time work, along with traveling to much more exotic places. Thanks for the great video James and Cynthia!
