Hello, I actually have a question. Is root cause analysis used to improve the outcome when the process is already stable, or is it used to make the process stable, by removing the so called special causes?

Thanks for contacting us. I will start to answer your question by quoting from Taiichi Ohno's saying, "Not having a problem is the biggest problem of all." This is the principle of "KAIZEN" or continuous improvement. So, root cause analysis is a useful tool not only to solve obvious problems but also to assess the current situation that might lead to finding unobvious ones along with finding places for improvement. Then, the problem could be how to gain more customer satisfaction or develop product quality or enter new markets.
