The ruby slippers were recovered about a year after this went up! And an interesting tidbit, the Smithsonian pair are actually mismatched - the right one is from pair #1 and the left is from pair number 6. The stolen slippers are left #1 and right #6!

Someone who doesn't see a prop as anything more than something to discard after a movie wraps. MGM didn't have an auction until 1970. Even then, it was a rather informal event compared with today's auctions that are being handled by Christie's.

Here's a pretty cool story: After the release of Alien, FOX didn't really think about looking after their props as the film wasn't a huge success due to the rating it received. So in late 1979, a man called Bob Burns sent a letter to Fox asking for permission to put on an Alien themed haunted house, and they sent him a ton of props...including the actual Nostromo. Like, the goddamn full size model they used in the film. The thing sat in his garage for two decades before being bought again and then finally restored.

For many years Bob Burns did his house up for Halloween each year for his neighbors - always a Movie theme and put on quite an impressive show. He was they guy that discovered and restored the original Time Machine prop. I read a story on him and the Time Machine in a Starlog Magazine from the 1970's (I still have it somewhere in storage)

One aspect of the Aliens movie that is "theoretically" still around, is the set "under the cooling towers" where all of the colonists had been taken and cocooned. The set, which was gnarly to begin with, had bodies fastened to the wall with alien secretions (secreted from what?), and featured Newt's supposed brother, "Timmy", and others contorted in pain; their chests blown outward. It was originally built in an old electrical facility in Britain (I think), and when shooting was complete, the nightmare set was left behind, untouched. Years passed and urban explorers rediscovered the terrifying wall decorations in the old substation, where they'd been, for tens of years. I don't know if anything has happened to it since then.

ya saw it on yahoo here is a snippet. great video anyway,...Tips flowed in over the years but they led either nowhere -- or to reproductions. One week, they were nailed to a wall in a roadside diner in Missouri, or resting at the bottom of a water-filled ore pit. Would-be tipsters reported them on display at the Smithsonian, which was true -- "Yeah, we know that, that's another pair," Johnson said."The thieves not only took the slippers, they took a piece of history that will be forever connected to Grand Rapids and one of our city's most famous children," Johnson said.A break in the case came in the summer of 2017, the FBI said in a statement. An individual approached the company that insured the slippers, saying he had information about the shoes and how they could be returned, and "it became apparent that those involved were in reality attempting to extort the owners of the slippers," Special Agent Christopher Dudley, who led the investigation from the FBI's Minneapolis Division, said in the statement.After nearly a yearlong investigation involving the bureau's Art Crime Team, the FBI Laboratory, and field offices in Chicago, Atlanta and Miami, the slippers were recovered during an undercover operation in Minneapolis, the statement said.Jill Sanborn, special agent in charge of the Minneapolis division of the FBI, called the shoes' recovery a "significant milestone." But law enforcement is still seeking information about the 2005 theft, she said.

I'd want one of the small Audrey II puppets/models from "Little Shop of Horrors." Some pieces are still around, but thanks to the latex that was used to give the plant puppets their flexibility they're getting withered to the point of crumbling. Not to mention that a lot of the plants were huge so they had to be disassembled. It also seems to be a mystery of who in the Creature Shop team got which plants.
@bobafett4075 жыл бұрын
There is also the story about the original Enterprise. Short version is that it was lost after the show ended, so they made a new one for the movie, but after some time the original model was left at the Paramount lot entrance. The bottom was covered in grease and eye hooks had been placed in the top, so they think it was placed in some restaurant.

If owning that prop is the best thing, the second best thing is owning a replica of that prop made from the same original parts. I own the third best thing. A replica made from replicas of the original parts. The original was made up of old world war 1 plane parts and grenade pieces, a british sink knob, a vintage camera flash clamp and various other stuff. A guy spent years hunting down original vintage parts and built his own prop that is the closest you can get to what Alec Guinness used. He then decided to have all those pieces replicated and sold as kits. You can google Roman Prop MK3 to see what I'm talking about. That thing is heavy and holding that is the closest you can get to Alec Guiness's lightsaber without spending years and thousands hunting down antique military pieces.

I am usually not a fan of wardrobe but the Ruby slippers are an exception to that rule. They are the center of the story and a magical prop.

Any prop? For me I would love the have the fully built version of Serenity which is the Firefly Class Mid Bulk Transport Ship that was used in filming for either the show Firefly, or the movie prop which appeared in the 2005 movie follow up to the television show! Of course why stop at just one movie or television prop, as I would love to have one of the working "arks" from the movie Damnation Alley as well, and then too there is the car driven by Mel Gibson in the movie The Road Warrior (the beat up one from that movie was my favorite) as well! I wouldn't mind have a complete outfit of Captain Malcom Reynolds from Firefly and when I say complete with everything from his boots to his brown coat to his firearm as well as holster, shirts and pants and accessories!!!!

Wow, that was a great video! I don't know how many people realize the subtleties of what you had to go through to put that together. Grabbing ALL those great clips that meshed so well with your dialogue, your voice over as well as the music mixed beautifully. Nice job dude! As to what prop what I most want? That is really tough, but I would say near the top the list would be the Pinocchio held by Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges in the film The Fisher King (one of my very, very favorite films of all time)!

I saw Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 today, which I thought would be the highlight of my day...I was wrong! So appreciative you not only liked the video, but took the time to point out the aspects which sometimes I feel get swept under the carpet. And the fact that you mentioned the great Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges...an A+ comment in my book.

Thank you Sir, I really appreciate that!

The following is a total side note to either your video or my comment above - this is in regards your mention of your personal experience with GOTG2. Just to give your comment some balance: I had the opportunity to see Guardians 2 first showing on Thursday and I was not only pleasantly surprised, it's one of those rare situations - very rare - where I felt that the sequel may have actually surpassed the original (which, next to Iron Man & Deadpool, maybe my favorite Marvel film to date! It appears that your experience with this Volume 2 was not quite as "glorious" as mine (unless you also won the lottery that same day - then I would understand why it might not have been the HIGHLIGHT of your day :-)

The Original robotic doll from the 1st Childs Play movie was stripped and the mechanics of it were used for the Crypt Keeper puppet on Tales from the crypt. The blue eyes are a dead give away.
