And the last part of the training was about the register, so everytime i have to be on dto i struggle. I do okay on front register but taking order over headset is hard for me especially when customers says their order like we have the flash fingers to put it on pos. Cashing out is easy. But I liked being on bar and I truly enjoy making drinks so today was a maintenance/CS day for me and it was fine with me. Truly! Just that the newbies treating me like im stupid or an idiot. I almost cried. But oh well, there will be better days.

Caleigh Rogalski It’s going okay. So far everyone is kind. Getting used to the system is hard for me. For example, they have you open an account during orientation and on that acc your work schedule is there and other stuff... I’ve forgotten the password to it. And you can only change it IN the store with a team lead helping you. I work again tomorrow and have to tell them that which is super embarrassing. Lol. Some things I can prepare you for-if you are doing a closing shift, which I’m sure you’ll do A LOT of closing shifts cause I have, every night before you leave, they have a team lead come by and check everything. Throughout the night YOU HAVE to 1. Pull pastries from freezer, date em, put em back in the freezer for morning people/ clean out pastry case 2. Wash ALL dishes... every single dish that you’ve used and place them back when you’re done... so like, shakers, blenders, pastry dishes... 3. Make sure everything you open is dated. They’ll tell you how long things are good and bad for 4. Restock and set out certain things for the person doing the morning shift 5. Wipe down sticky bottles that might attract bugs/ seating area 6. And honestly one of the biggest things they emphasize is cleaning the espresso machine. I know, it sounds like SO much to get used to, and heck, I just started, so I’m still terrible at it. It’s just really good to know what to get done before you start, and they’ll be surprised at your knowledge :) And if you ever feel anxious, because I literally almost threw up over starting, just remember I’ve already missed 3 shifts because they gave me the wrong schedule and I forgot my password to my online account with my online schedule. I can’t wait to explain that one. 🙄😶🤮 *sick to my stomach about it* So.. mistakes happen. You live and you learn, and there’s nothing we can do about it once it’s done. In the end, it’ll become easier. Oh, also, just be prepared for learning cash register. It’s gonna be really difficult-unless you pick up really fast, but sometimes I have no idea what to charge that person if their ordering like, a complicated drink and I can’t find it. But they shouldn’t expect you to be good at it within the first two weeks, so don’t worry about it! Sorry if I stressed you out more, but at least you know what to expect now:)

I've watched so many videos on working at Starbucks, and this is the best! Attitude is everything. A lot of the comments/videos I've seen are people saying how stressful and horrible it is, which of course its stressful but I think if Starbucks is your first job, or at least your first retail/service job, you're going to extremely overwhelmed. I've been a server and bartender for a while now and at very busy and fast paced restaurants. So I'm pretty much used to demanding situations/customers. It's really all about attitude. Just be positive. I want to work at Starbucks because it's a flexible job which will help me learn new skills and also pay for my bachelors and masters degree soo I'm gonna suck it up! Keep your eyes on the prize 😎
@imeekay3 жыл бұрын
Can I also add it makes a difference who you work with, shift supervisors included. Typically I gravitate to the shift supervisors who are willing to help me and don’t look as stressed. The stressed ones are rude and it just makes the day harder on you as a barista. It can become overwhelming personally to anyone. It’s not my first job. I’ve been working for 6 years and it’s still occasionally overwhelming to me and I used to be a server.
@valerievillegas62753 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! The more experience you have in retail/fast-paced jobs, Starbucks won't be too hard on you. I start my first day of training next Tuesday! I'm just super nervous about Starbucks customer. I heard they're a different breed.

There are people complaining about being a barista at sb and keeping a negative attitude like babe just change your perspective. No one is forcing you to be there, you chose to apply and are choosing to work if you don’t like it or don’t want to do it; quit simple as that. And that applies to any job if you’re just complaining and having such a negative attitude how do you expect to feel more fulfilled working there

So I just started training, It's SOOOO important asking your trainer questions of what you're unsure about. use a learning technique you learn fast with. There is no need to rush!!! This is my actual first week in training and I'm almost getting down the codes on the drinks and working through the register as a POS. Also don't forget to let your customers know that you're new and training so they won't rush you with their orders. I work in Starbucks in a supermarket store, I feel like it's going to take me a year for making drinks lmao. So far I didn't mess up much, but yeah there is no need to rush yourself when you're learning new skills, brewing coffee, timers, switching positions. Sometimes I forget to wash my hands before and after doing tasks xD.

ive been training for almost 3 weeks. and i enjoy the training. but i am really having a hard time in execution of beverage making. ive been really frustated about it. i think my partners are already getting annoyed of me. im panicking when there is 3 or more orders. im having a hard time in beverage routine of 2 or more orders. having a hard time in multi tasking. specially when cold bev(blended) and hot(espresso) at the same time. i really want to pursue this but im already doubting myself. help.
@CCela16085 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that you're getting frustrated but it sounds like you care a lot and that's wonderful! See if you can find one or two partners you work with frequently who are great on bar, and ask if they'll help you with routine. You can also ask if someone you're working with will let you focus on certain types of beverages at a time - like if fraps give you a hard time, ask to be frap kid for the day! When all else fails, take a deep breath and keep trying. Ask for help if you need it but truly practice will make this so much better over time. And you're only a few weeks in!!! You're doing great!!!

Thanks! I've just worked 4 days and I like it, but I'm pretty anxious. My store is a little understaffed just now, and I haven't been fully trained, so there's so much I don't know. I'm middle aged and visually impaired, never worked in retail or food industry, just slower office jobs. I'm embarrassed by how much basic stuff I don't know - like how to use the mop bucket, or how to unscrew the soap dispensers in the bathroom to refill them! But I learned some of that yesterday, thanks to partners helping me. They are the main reasons I didn't quit in a panic - their kindness about answering questions even while doing double-roles themselves till we get up to speed. My store manager even came in person to show me how to refill the soap, and she was so nice about it. I'm able to do simple stuff like refilling whip, mixing lemonade and mocha, and I learned a little about steaming milk and making basic lattes, or grinding coffee to make a pot of Pike. But I've got to get the cadence of the brewing cycle down, what to make when, restocking items, and making sure my cleaning is to standard. I hope my 2nd week leaves me feeling a lot more confident on those things.

Starbucks, at least in Madrid, Spain, forces its employees to attend work meetings in its stores (usually at night) without being paid for them, and it has also created the figure of what they call "complementary hours" so as not to have to pay them as overtime, which is what they really are. In this way, these overtime hours are paid as ordinary hours.

Worked as a barista at this coffee/tea chain; they had multiple stores around the U.S and they had several around my county. They didn’t want to pay for extra labor so they’re were only two baristas every shift. Went in for training on the first day and was thrown right into the fire. The training itself was so horrible since there was only one person with me (shift leader). Basically had to figure out the register (which was a lot simpler) but then I’d have to get off the register and was pressured to make drinks with a menu of smoothies and teas/coffee of 50 items. I’d go back and forth and it was awful. On the first day I was already being yelled at for not knowing how to make certain drinks and it was rush hour at night. To make it worse customers were complaining there drinks was too sweet or it doesn’t taste right. There was also a certain customer that day that ordered 10 drinks for their family and almost each drinks were custom made with certain needs. It was so bad that day I quit after that. Traumatized me from becoming a barista in the future. But maybe I’ll give it another shot, management there was terrible and I wasn’t the only one to complain online. 100% sure it’s better else where, just wether I want to give it another shot. But yeah, rule number one I would say is check out the store first before applying as a barista.

Holy cow I'm so sorry that happened to you, that sounds awful!!! I work at a Starbucks franchise so I only work with limited drinks however it's only been 4 days since I've been there and everytime people order a frappacino or the refreshers I panick. I sometimes don't know how to label cups so I write the whole name down. I've had to throw away so many drinks bc I've messed up so much. My coworkers have been nice about me learning but I feel like they secretly hate me bc how much they have to help me. I wanna learn how to make the drinks when I'm at home but I only find diy versions of it which is kinda confusing. Plus I try to smile to customers who've been nice and all but sometimes there's that one customer that says I made the drink incorrectly or labeled it wrong so we have to make it again. And that just kills me inside every time. I have a meltdown in the storage room bc I'm such a screw up. Everytime I think of work I get so anxious and nervous. I don't wanna quit but it's taking a toll on me so much.
@CCela16085 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry that's happening to you! Be strong and patient with yourself, it takes lots of practice to get the recipes memorized and nobody is perfect. Do you have the recipe cards or a book of them somewhere at work where you can look at them? If not it would be best to ask your favorite co-worker if they would be willing to work with you either before or after one of your shifts to clarify and practice those drinks that really trip you up. Good luck!

@@CCela1608 Currently it is spring break so it's busy af so finding time to look at the book is difficult. My coworkers have helped me go over stuff before opening so it's been helpful but when the time to actually do it I forget a major step and that just throws everything off.

Right the with ya, started today. So. Much. Memorization. I got information overload and then stressed out because I took over cash register and could find some stuff. I feel like no matter what I do I need confirmation. You have ab update? Is it going better now?
@Firdaus_285 жыл бұрын
@@kjcornett Yeah it's going a lot better. I've pretty much memorized all the drinks at this point. You really just need to give yourself some time which is difficult bc the work is so fast paced. However I drew and labled the drinks in a small notebook that I keep in my back pocket incase I need to know how to make something. If you wanna discuss more we can talk on snap

luckily for me, the steps for a frappuccino are right on top of the fridge at the frappe station. I look down at it every few seconds lol
@AP-pv6vk2 жыл бұрын
Thought I should leave the steps here. After reading them over and over again I'm confident I have it down. 1. Pump coffee ( 2(Tl) - 3(G) - 4(V)) ...skip if order calls for crm(creme) 2. pour milk 3. pour contents into blender 4. pump syrup (2 - 3 - 4) 5. scoop flavor (2 -3 -4) 6. scoop ice 7. pump base (2-3-4) 8. blend (1 or 2) If you are making a cookie, crunch drink, this would be a good time to start whip creaming the bottom and adding the appropriate crumb sprinkles and syrup. Having these instructions in front of you are truly a life saver! I recommend writing it down and putting it somewhere you can see without having to touch it. Hope this helps!

They wanted me to know how to make most drinks before going on register. Then again, we are a Very chill location, we dont get many customers which i vibe with, it gave me more learning opportunities and was able to take things slowly. In 2 weeks tho i have my evaluation for my barista certificate and i am NERVOUS jdhdhrjf and on monday i have to do my first coffee tasting so i have 5 days to get used to this blend, learn its history and find smth to pair it with and lemme tell u im STRESSED

I mean it was my absolute favorite perk. Pretty much unlimited free drinks, then if you close you might be able to take expired items or slightly stale things from the display case, as well as any mistaken items that are made/cooked for customers, it's endless. If you like the food and drinks at Starbucks you'd better get a gym membership after you get hired LOL
