I’m definitely a skirt/dress gal, year-round. It has nothing to do with a romantic look, I just find them so much more comfortable than trousers. I love wearing them with flat sandal slides in summer.

I'm not necessarily young and I'm surely not tall, but I do find the different pieces you assemble are easy and relaxed. A younger me would have defiantly tied my shirt through my bra to show my middy. At 58, not a pretty look. lol. But it doesn't matter, I adapt the looks you present to what I can do with my 5'-1"(ish) height. My favorite is the linen joggers and skirt with the sweater tank. I can replicate those two easily. I must add, that since finding your channel, my personal style has transitioned to the real me and not so much what retail says my style to be. I still have plenty in my closet, I use each piece creatively.

1-Dress and functional shoes. (my favorite!) 2-Head to Toe Linen. 3-Skirt, simple top and functional shoes 4- Wide leg trousers, simple blouse or crop top of some sort. 5-Fancy item with something edgy or casual.

My sister found a silk maxi skirt that I thrifted in the late 80s or 90s and later gave to her. I tried it on with a white top, also thrifted. It’s going to work great for walking in the park on hot summer days.

My favorite summer formula is joggers with a silk cami. Down: sneakers or birks with cap/hat and wallet in my pocket. Up: ballet flats or maryjane heels with cuffs rolled up and good jewelry. The material of the jogger matters: I tend to go for soft drapery textures so it’s more versatile (see encircled or pact). Easy to transition to fall: ankle boots and a moto or duster coat.

One of my favourites is a long fitted dress either cotton or a slip dress in a plain colour with a beautiful lightweight patterned kimono. During the day I wear it with sandals and a basket bag and a head scarf and at night heels, a oversized clutch and statement earrings. It has the long line, column affect you were talking about and it’s a great way to add sun protection and interest while keeping things flowy airy and cool.

Great tips! My best summer outfit formula is a dress or a really long tunic think indian and flowy pants with a clearly visible contrast in material and sandals or very sleek city runners not clunky or a long dress and a really long flowy scarf hanging (with sandals or kitten heels)

I used to outright wear shalwar kameez sets in summer, or mix the top with jeans. They are definitely perfect for hot weather especially for giving sun protection while still being breezy. Now I worry about cultural appropriation though, so they've been relegated to the back of my closet.

Beautiful scenery and backdrop, and fabulous outfits! I’m definitely a “head-to-toe linen” girl in summer! A linen short sleeved shirt and linen shorts or trousers almost every single day! I have yet to find the absolutely perfect linen piece, I am looking at some family-run businesses that make hand-made linen pieces on Etsy at the moment as I have been looking for the perfect linen dress for years but can never find anything in a style that is flattering on me. I’ve ordered some fabric samples but I’m going to take my time, save and take proper measurements to ensure that the dress I am looking at is “The One”! With all the videos of yours I have watched over the years, something is definitely sinking in 🤣

You inspired me today. I was watching you while having my morning coffee in just a pair of old shorts and t-shirt and when done was going to go do a few errands. However, I made the effort and changed using Formula #5 - fancy + casual. I put on my casual denim shorts with my black stain slinky slip top and strapless bra and then swapped my rubber flip flops with my black leather sandals and some large hooped earrings. It made me feel good and that to me is the best part. I'm going home this summer for a month and I'm going to use these rules to put together my travel capsule wardrobe for the trip. I love your videos but am new to your channel. Do you ever do any videos showing tips for women closer to your mother’s or grandmother’s age? I’d love to see a collaborative video with your mom and/or grandmother. I’d love to see how you view the same techniques can be used for older women who like to look up-to-date! I just turned 60 and I don’t ever want to look old and/or frumpy/sloppy in the way I dress. I feel like you could show tips for any age women. Once again I love your videos!

Great topic! Everyone has some resemblance of these foundational pieces for summer wear ( maybe linen pieces would be the wild card ) in their closet and this mini session Alyssa is a great springboard to get in there and start mixin’ and playin’ to come up with our own versions of the base formulas. I have a pair of ‘romantic vibe’ black “flounce” shorts (ease of a relaxed short that has a seamed flounce detail at the leg ) it comes off like a mini skirt, but they are shorts in a fluid fabric) and I have a lot of fun putting outfits together using this one base piece - love it with vintage tees or linen/cotton tees and Birkenstocks or trainers OR I can go completely the other way strappy block heels, pretty tanks or halter tops fashioned from my summer scarfs. Thanks so much for helping us to play in our own sandbox!

I am going to try all your formulae to see which one/ones will do for me. I usually tend to wear boho chic outfits. So my formula for dresses would be adding a vest, gilet or waistcoat. For jeans or shorts I wear kimonos on solid tees or a print caftán or dress worn as a blouson on solid trousers or jeans. I am a curvy over 50 woman so your formulae are much more interesting because they may help me update my looks.

Greetings from NJ. I love how you make a plain outfit look and feel so upscale with just adding a hat, jewelry etc. I have been rocking the button down shirt as a layering piece. Leaving it open and wearing a monochromatic outfit underneath. I’m 5’1” and that style makes me feel much taller without wearing heels. Love me some heels but can’t wear them. My question to you is, is it to much to wear this style all the time, without making me seem somewhat boring? I have tried other outfit options, but can’t seem to find anything else that I like. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

Loving the way you explain the notion behind the formulas. (I’d also love to see some styling ideas for days when you’re mostly in an office - ie. days where sunglasses/bag/outerwear/hats get cut from the equation while you’re indoors.)
