Hey that’s awesome! Congrats.

Congrats!!! Excited for you! When you say programs offer 2nd looks do the programs email all their applicants about it or you emailed each of the ones you were interested for a 2nd look?
@ERdoctorMike8 ай бұрын
They will email everyone for formal second looks but they generally will make time for anyone that emails them and wants to do a visit.

I wonder if the algorithm understands deep enough to consider your performance in medical school and then avoids matching great students to subpar residency programs? If that makes sense?
@ERdoctorMike6 ай бұрын
The algorithm strictly tries to put you in your number 1 program.

I’m curious… I feel like there are a lot of us interested in EM that are worried about grades. Being on the other side now as a DO student, How much do grades and class rank matter in the process? Can you do a video about it? I know a lot of my classmates worry about it. Because honestly it can be frustrating to get a B in a systems course(or most classes) only to end up feeling like you’re not good enough and probably won’t match into EM. Or even have a sub 3.5 gpa and not match EM

There are so many factors that go into your application. I fortunately went to a pass/fail school so grades weren’t an issue for me. I will say that EM is one of those specialties were personality and connections mean more than most other aspects of your application. I would encourage you to all get involved in your EM club at school. Great question I’ll try to do a video on it.

If you want to do EM, I don’t think matching would be an issue. It’s actually the easiest speciality to match into for both MD and DO students with a match rate of 99% for 2023.

Doctor, have you ever regretted your career choice due to extremely high expectations and comparison with comparison with unbelievably intelligent colleagues, and consistent sleep deprivation?
@ERdoctorMike7 ай бұрын
I never regret it. It’s important to stay grounded and understand your limits. Medicine is a team sport so you will always have help when you need it. It can be stressful but having a good support system and working with good colleagues makes it enjoyable.
